To think that anyone who suggests that Pippa Middleton upstaged the bride is a bit simple?

After all, it isn't as if Pippa said "No Kate, I'm not telling you what I'm going to wear - it's a surprise!" and then walked away sniggering....

To the best of my knowledge, the bride chooses the bridesmaid dresses. OK, the bridesmaids often have a say, but the likes of that awful Liz Jones making snide remarks about Pippa "breaking rules by wearing white" just make themselves sound stupid and bitchy.

I abosultely hated Pippa's dress Blush

Pancakeflipper · 30/04/2011 16:17

Simple? Dunno know about that but I'd think they were wrong. You could spot the Bride pretty easily... Or Kate would have been the most OTT Bridesmaid ever seen.

It was a bit creased at the beginning...

Meglet · 30/04/2011 16:20

yanbu. What should Pippa have worn, an old dishcloth? They both looked good.

80sMum · 30/04/2011 16:23

Certainly, Pippa's dress was very flattering and figure-hugging and as such it was 'sexier' than Kate's wedding dress. But Kate looked absolutely divine in her dress, imo, and wedding dresses (especially Royal ones) are not supposed to be sexy; they should be modest, demure and beautiful - which is exactly how Kate looked yesterday. Perfect! Smile

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 16:23

it's not breaking the rules by wearing white, anyway.
the whole tradition of bridesmaids was that the bride and the bridesmaids all used to wear the smae or similar dresses.

I thought she looked lovely.

my bridesmaid wore the same colour as me.
she didn't look like a bride. (although her hair was nicer than mine Envy )

RobF · 30/04/2011 16:26

Pippa is like a JK Rowling book. You know Harry is going to be in it at some point.

Ooopsadaisy · 30/04/2011 16:27

I thought Pippa looked fab.

I don't think she did anything to upstage anyone. She was discreet, useful, helpful and dignified and there when needed. Everything you need from a Maid of Honour.

If she did upstage it was other people's perspective rather than deliberate.

Loved the whole thing.

I thought the Middletons were dignified, elegant and absolutley held their own in what must have felt like a really odd situation. Imagine singing God Save the Queen while she's opposite you like that????????????

I rather like the look of James Middleton. Yum. Would like to see his less serious side!!!!

Have become a royalist and a romantic in the last 48 hours, and I've never been either before in my life.

RobF - my DP's words:

"Phwoor - is that the sister? - God! I'd have a crack at it!"

Poor girl.

ivykaty44 · 30/04/2011 16:43

Pippa is a really lovely looking young woman and looked beautiful in a simple dress. The bride was stunning and looked like a bride.

Whats the big deal - soem people are sour

RunAwayWife · 30/04/2011 16:43

When my sister got married her bridesmaids were in gold but as matron of honour I was in ivory, the same colour as my sister's wedding dress

valiumredhead · 30/04/2011 16:45

She looked amazing - as bridesmaid's dresses go it was pretty stunning.

'Upstaging' is just journalist nonsense!

twoorthree · 30/04/2011 16:48

I agree, upstaging is a load of old rubbish.

There was more than enough attention to go round everyone! I think it was lovely that they both looked so beautiful.

Curiousmama · 30/04/2011 16:50

Thanks for this thread, I *thought8 she must've been her sister Blush You can tell I'm no royalist. I didn't watch it but just caught a bit of it on bbc iplayer. Both looked beautiful IMO.

5DollarShake · 30/04/2011 16:50

Liz Jones doesn't, as always, know what she's talking about. It's common in royal circles for bridesmaids to wear similar, non-contrasting colours.

And yeah, it wasn't as if Kate didn't know what Pippa was going to be wearing!! fair play for her for 'letting' (for want of a better word) her sister look cracking on her own wedding deer.

Pippa's stock has skyrocketed as a result of this, but Kate was the bride and star of the show.

Curiousmama · 30/04/2011 16:50

meant thought Blush

laptopwieldingharpy · 30/04/2011 16:52

You jealous lot! They both looked gorgeous. The new bouvier sisters

  • Wedding day. Grin
5DollarShake · 30/04/2011 16:53

Who's jealous? Hmm

redundanttiara · 30/04/2011 16:53

I too think Pippa looked lovely, if slightly cheeky at some points (not during the ceremony). I'm sure that Kate would have gone for that sort of style wedding dress if she wasn't marrying a prince and there weren't 2 billion people watching.

redundanttiara · 30/04/2011 16:54

PSML at wedding deer - that's brought some picture to mind :)

Blatherskite · 30/04/2011 16:58

It does seem somewhat fitting given her dress and the effect it seems to be having on some men that 'Pippa' is Italian slang for having a wank Grin

missymarmite · 30/04/2011 17:02

YANBU. Pippa looked beautiful, but Kate was definitely the centre of attention and wasn't upstaged. She had a veil, tiara and a train, her dress was beautiful and she was lovely. Her sister's dress was also lovely, but Kate's was something else.
