they are 21/22, young girls, with the eyes of the world on them. I am horrified at the generally vicious comments about how they looked at the wedding. Leave them alone for goodness sake. Their mother is generally vilified and those girls have to live with that - not least at this wedding where she was notable by her lack of invitation, for whatever reason. How was your confidence when you were 21/22? Probably not that hot. HOw was your fashions sense at that age? Probably not that hot. Did you listen to any advice/advisors at that age? PROBABLY NOT.

fwiw I think they looked great - Eugenie's outfit was lovely and it suited her. Beatrice's coat didn't fit that well but the hat was fab and imo their outfits were a mature and respectful choice.

But I'm a fashion designer, so what would I know Biscuit

Oh God they looked awful. But - they did give us all a laugh so we should be grateful for that.

springydaffs · 30/04/2011 13:52

I've moreorless said all I want to say - except I maybe may not have mentioned that I am a fashion designer [scrolls back to check] but here's the thing:

If you don't come back you're accused of running off, too scared to stand up to the heat

If you do come back you're accused of flogging a dead horse, forcing the issue/ your opinions

Apart from popping into the conversation that I'm a fashion designer - how easy you lot are to wind up eh hahahaha - just one more point:

If those girls had a stylist there would be hell to pay that they're too young for a fashion stylist, that it's a waste of money, they're spoilt, who do they think they are.

They can't win, whatever they do.

Eugeine looked like she was dressing up as Widow Twanky.
Beatrice's outfit was lovely, just ruined by the protrubrance on her head and too much black eye make up that made her look like a startled lemur.

Eugenie looked like an owl with that awful contraption stuck on her face. And she was the better dressed of the two sisters.

Beatrice looked like an ostrich in green/blue, wearing some rug-design jacket with a bubble skirt which had nothing in common with her shoes & clutch. She seriously needs professional help because she clearly has no taste of her own.

Fallopian tube hat lady is Beatrice.

Widow Tanky is Eugenie.

Psammead · 30/04/2011 14:04

They look rather stylish here

Psammead · 30/04/2011 14:07

And I love this hat

What went wrong?

BellaMagnificat · 30/04/2011 14:16

Would much rather have a go at that idiot footballer, ostentatiously wearing his wrong-size OBE on the wrong lapel, (now that is a faux-pas) and his sulky-looking shrouded-in-almost-black partner.

diddl · 30/04/2011 14:31

Am I allowed to say that I thought V´s fake ponytail was bloody awful?

Meglet · 30/04/2011 14:35

They looked gorgeous coming out of the evening reception.

CoteDAzur · 30/04/2011 14:38

"startled lemur" Grin

methodsandmaterials · 30/04/2011 14:46

Guys, in case you didn't know; the OP is a fashion designer.

jojowest · 30/04/2011 14:48

But I'm a fashion designer, so what would I know

exactly! they looked like muppets, get over it

CoteDAzur · 30/04/2011 14:51

Everybody knows by now that OP is a "fashion designer".

She is still BU.

Given her taste, I doubt if many here would be a fan of her creations. Maybe we can stop judging Eugenie & Beatrice and turn the cannon towards her dresses if she would be so kind as to provide some pictures Grin

Bucharest · 30/04/2011 14:51

Has the OP mentioned she's a fashion designer yet?

Diddle, I agree re the Spencer crowd. (now I've worked out what TOWIE is Blush) They all looked like HollyFearneWillybobblebyCotton are their fashion idols.

Oooh look,I mentioned "fashion" twice in one post! (and I don't sew buttons on even, I buy new shirts)

rockinhippy · 30/04/2011 15:13

Confused unless you are their stylistHmm I really don't get what being a fashion designer has to do with your positive opinion of their outfits being more valid than those who thought their choice of outfits was to say the least very poor .......

I do agree some comments have been overly bitchy, but that aside everyone is allowed an opinion & in their situation these 2 young women should know that the eyes of the world are on them & therefore in this particular situation choose with more care....or get themselves a better stylist Grin

IMHO their outfits did not do them any favours at at all, they looked dreadful...... thats not to say I wouldn't love the Vivien Westwood number on the right person & in the right setting, but the outfits were badly fitting, not flattering for the girls particular body shapes & the choice of hats was just wrong - at ascot Ladies day maybe, but a wedding - NO...wrong .....

the Girls aren't ugly girls, neither are they out of shape, they could of been advised FAR better & come out on the day stealing the show & looking stunning......they didn't

& FTR, I too am a Fashion Designer, with a hell of a lot of experience behind me, I wouldn't have dreamed of allowing a client of mine walk out thinking they looked good, whilst blatantly not - if you are any good at your job, you also know how to advise people WITHOUT it coming across as telling them what to do - these were either off the peg, chosen by themselves, thinking cool labels would work - or their stylists needs the sack Hmm

SauvignonBlanche · 30/04/2011 15:23

I'm not a fashion designer so obviously my opinion is of limmited value but I thought that both of the good-looking young women looked awful.

The camera is very cruel. I often think I look quite nice, then get the photos back and see I looked fatter than I thought with lumpy bits, with clothes not hanging right. I guess they will have the same experience.

I agree with Springdaffs, the main crime the princesses have committed here is the crime of being fatter (not actually fat, just fatter than the incredibly thin Middleton sisters). TPT's outfit was a horror, I agree, it only looks 'ok' as she's also rail thin, if she was larger she would have been a laughing stock.

Laughing at larger women wearing brightly coloured clothes (which shock, don't hang as nicely as on very thin women and often strain and bulge a bit in photos) is becoming a national pastime. Think of the pictures in the Daily Mail of the women at Ascot, all mocked for basically being fat, dressing up and having a good time out with their friends. Hopefully they just don't give a shit.

80sMum · 30/04/2011 16:16

Good grief. From some of these posts, you would think that the young Yorks were children. If they were 12 or 13 years old, I'm sure people's opinions would be different and comments kinder. They are, however, young women and not children. They must surely have realised that wearing outlandish outfits would attract attention (of the unwelcome as well as the welcome kind).

Perhaps young people just take longer to grow up these days - and I don't mean that to sound patronising: by the time I was 22 I'd been married for 2 years and had ds and dh and a home to look after, so to me 22 is not so young.

rockinhippy · 30/04/2011 16:18

EXACTLY LeQueen & I suspect that if the OP is actually a Fashion Designer at allHmm they are fresh out of Uni, & have a hell of a lot of learning their trade yet to do Wink

& I can see where you are coming from onetoomany, but I disagree in that, if using a designer & made to measure, size really isn't a barrier to looking good, they should be helping you to choose best cuts, styles & clours to flatter YOUR shape, whatever that is :)

but that said, at their ages, I too dressed in a way that would have had most people running for the hillsGrin but that was my choice & I didn't give a flying one as what anyone else thought of my outfit ....lets hope the Eugene & Beatrice feel the same way & did it out of personal choice & nothing else :)....though even then I would have toned it down & dressed more appropriately at such a high brow wedding
