they are 21/22, young girls, with the eyes of the world on them. I am horrified at the generally vicious comments about how they looked at the wedding. Leave them alone for goodness sake. Their mother is generally vilified and those girls have to live with that - not least at this wedding where she was notable by her lack of invitation, for whatever reason. How was your confidence when you were 21/22? Probably not that hot. HOw was your fashions sense at that age? Probably not that hot. Did you listen to any advice/advisors at that age? PROBABLY NOT.

fwiw I think they looked great - Eugenie's outfit was lovely and it suited her. Beatrice's coat didn't fit that well but the hat was fab and imo their outfits were a mature and respectful choice.

But I'm a fashion designer, so what would I know Biscuit

Morloth · 30/04/2011 09:57

You can acknowledge all of that about no choice etc and still think that hat was bloody stupid you know.

Only a fashion designer would think it was a good idea. Was cruel of that designer to do that to them really.

Pagwatch · 30/04/2011 09:57

Sgm
Agree totally. Happy to laugh at critique the awful outfits.
Calling young girls ugly or fat is vile

I'm really, really, totally not jealous of Beatrice and Eugenie.

scottishmummy · 30/04/2011 09:58

lol,no its your bossy tone.everyone cool it and agree with you

Morloth · 30/04/2011 10:00

They are not fat anyway, not even close, the one in blue looks like she might not be quite the waifs most of the other young women present were, but she certainly didn't look fat. The one in beige was teeny.

A bit horsey perhaps but that is just the family 'look' isn't it?

TandB · 30/04/2011 10:00

Actually, I draft my own patterns and make my own clothes. Presumably this makes me a fashion designer?

Excellent. My opinion therefore outweighs the opinion of anyone who does not do the above.

The outfits were hideous.

Discussion resolved. You can all thank me later.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 30/04/2011 10:01

They are not fat or hefty by any stretch of the imagination. Look at the pictures again properly

I think the one with the blue (sorry i don't know who is who with those two) had in the past some press comments about her body and with this outfit she was trying to 'celebrate her curves' ? But it didn't work. Gosh, they will bin the outfits after reading all the negative comments about them.

Pippa on the other hand, oh she must be dancing around today reading all the praises about her.

My mum says they loved her in Spain too and they think that Carol must have had an affair with a Spanish man 27 yrs ago Grin

They are reasonably pretty young women who were wearing shockingly bad outfits. And that hat looked like a huge clitoris (with antlers) stuck to her head. They have nice figures, and can afford all the frocks and stylists in the world, so they could have looked a hell of a lot better. I hated Vicky Beckham's outfit too, she looked like Morticia and also had a stupid hat. And doesn't she claim to be a fashion designer too

WassaAxolotlEgg · 30/04/2011 10:32

There have been some awful comments. I'm not going to repeat the most despicable one though, for obvious reasons.

sausagesandmarmelade · 30/04/2011 10:35

Interesting...my Italian MIL said that the Middleton children looked continental...James also came up trumps. Gorgeous!

The Spencer ladies all looked amazing....

See...can be done. Just need to know what works and what doesn't!

Another howler (I thought) was Cleggs wife....

I don't know which sister is which, but I loved the colour of the blue outfit, thought didn't really like the shape of the skirt, and I didn't like the beige hat at all.

I didn't think that either outfit was particularly suitable for their age, slightly too frumpy and it hid their figures, and judging by their legs they must have great figures. I wish I had their legs, just not their outfits on the day.

i was just showing dp the pictures of the York girls and dp wandered up, pointed at the scream and shouted 'Easter Egg!'....... He's 4 and he could tell Eugenie's outfit wasn't a good look fgs, what excuse do adult women have?

I think it must have been purposeful to a degree though, I mean they didn't even do their hair.... who goes to a wedding that will be televised to 2 billion people and leaves their hair frizzy and unbrushed... and in Eugenie's case yanked back in a half arsed pony tail?

catsareevil · 30/04/2011 10:50

Some speculation that the hat might have been religiously motivated]] [cgrin]

Laquitar · 30/04/2011 10:51

Erm SamCam Grin.
Just a very quick brush and ready. Wash and Go.

FabbyChic · 30/04/2011 10:52

Sorry but they did look rough.

colditz · 30/04/2011 10:53

I was a mother at 22, I wasn't a silly little girl who needed protecting from myself.

I CERTAINLY wouldn't have expected to make a tit of myself, then have older women saying "Ohhh poor thing, she's only young..."

springydaffs · 30/04/2011 10:54

I do agree that fashion designers can get blinded by fashion for the design's sake - and not just fashion designers either. However, imo it is not the be-all and end-all to have good fashion sense, isn't a skill everybody should have mastered at any stage in their lives, nor should have mastered because they are in the public eye. If people didn't like what they wore then fine but (to repeat, exhaustively) it is foul to attack them personally for what they were wearing on their bodies. imfdo

This thread is hilarious.

"I'm a fashion designer therefore everybody must agree with me even when I spout nonsense...'

I love Vivienne Westwood and the woman knows how to cut for curves - but that blue dress was a travesty and if B&E had anybody who cared about them and had seen those outfits before hand, the kind thing to do would have been to say 'Hell no' and then frog-marched them back to Selfridges for something better.

They looked ridiculous.

The larger of the two is a v pretty girl and they both have good legs but they need some serious fashion advice and are clearly not getting it. Perhaps they should get onto the MN S&B boards for a bit? :)
