they are 21/22, young girls, with the eyes of the world on them. I am horrified at the generally vicious comments about how they looked at the wedding. Leave them alone for goodness sake. Their mother is generally vilified and those girls have to live with that - not least at this wedding where she was notable by her lack of invitation, for whatever reason. How was your confidence when you were 21/22? Probably not that hot. HOw was your fashions sense at that age? Probably not that hot. Did you listen to any advice/advisors at that age? PROBABLY NOT.

fwiw I think they looked great - Eugenie's outfit was lovely and it suited her. Beatrice's coat didn't fit that well but the hat was fab and imo their outfits were a mature and respectful choice.

But I'm a fashion designer, so what would I know Biscuit

Have to say that Eugenie looked far from comfortable in her outfit...

A good outfit should make you exude confidence...she looked as if she knew she had made a dreadful choice.

Bloodymary · 30/04/2011 09:03

Razzlebathbone [cgrin] funniest comment on 'the' hat so far!

sausagesandmarmelade · 30/04/2011 09:07

LOL....

as for best dressed (apart from the couple) Pippa stole it...

She looked absolutely perfect...gorgeous! What a figure!

Newgolddream · 30/04/2011 09:12

razzlebathbone I think some credit should be given to Prince Philip for not trying to shoot the stag.

[cgrin] just too funny [cgrin]

As to the hats, are we not allowed an opinion - I dont think anyone has attacked the Princesses as such - just their appalling fashion sense - who in their right mind thought those hats looked good? Beas also looks curiously like female genitals from the front, or is it just me [csmile]

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/04/2011 09:12

I am roaring at this thread - "I'm a fashion designer, you know. I'm a fashion designer, you know. I'm a fashion designer, you know." And the comment about "working eyes."

FWIW, Beatrice is tiny in real life. Really a teensy tiny little thing. She could have looked fab, but as it was a) her hat looked like a tellytubby and b) her beige outfit was much too old for her. Eugenie is a bit more ample, and her outfit looked like it was straining a bit, and a bit "curtains" (but not in a good, Scarlett O'Hara sort of way). Both are pretty girls and can look stunning (like in their evening dresses - was it the night before?), but yesterday, it really was OMFG what are they wearing, and did they get dressed in the dark? Joss Stone was a good example of someone the same age who had "got it right" - great colour and age appropriate style.

ZacharyQuack · 30/04/2011 09:17

Eugenie was on the right tracking choosing Vivienne Westwood to suit her figure, and the bright blue was good with her colouring. However the bodice was too tight and the bows were too fussy, the skirt too pouffy and the green and blue pattern was matronly. Her hat was similar to TPT's but with extra froof.

Beatrice's outfit was fairly inoffensive but the hat was hideous. That hat was the sort of thing you can only pull off if either
a) you've got a stunningly beautiful face
b) you're Cate Blanchett (see also 1)
c) you're at a convention for the blind, held in the dark.

Morloth · 30/04/2011 09:18

Pippa has a seriously nice arse and I don't even bat for the other team...

ilovesprouts · 30/04/2011 09:20

its always gonna be a bitch fest on here !! it would not be mumsnet would it Grin

CatandDyl · 30/04/2011 09:21

YANBU. People can have whatever fashion style they choose. Its not for us to decide if they look good or not IMO.

ZacharyQuack · 30/04/2011 09:21

Pippa looked stunning, good for her. If my big sister was getting married and I had to hold her dress and look after the toddlers, whilst being broadcast around the world and commented on in the media, (and I looked like Pippa)I'd make sure I was in the hottest dress I could get away with.

Both of them are beautiful but haven't found their fashion 'feet' yet.

I do wonder if their mum chose their outfits though?

They were mini Isabella Blows IMO Smile.

There outfits were dreadful and make up inappropriate. I think they could have got away with it if either of them had looked comfortable. However they both looked deeply uncomfortable and have the same awkward gait of their mother.

Perhaps Carol Middleton could take them in hand. She has three well groomed, stylish and confident children.

The raw materials are there - the girls are pretty and both have great figures. Unfortunately the person who should have been guiding them and advising them has absolutely no taste or style. Poor girls.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 30/04/2011 09:52

I'm 22 and frankly wouldn't ever go out with something in my head resembling something from Dr.Who- the lady GaGa years

And T-P-T looked awful!

Did I mention that I'm a fashion designer?

[stands back]

that's what caused the rumpus, not sticking up for girls (yes girls, start another thread about calling women girls if you like) who didn't ask to be born into w&p, didn't fight tooth and nail to be in the public eye, have to bear their mother being publicly vilified and scapegoated (ongoing) by their rabidly dysfunctional extended family and the world's media; enjoy clothes and expressed their creativity beautifully imo.

folks, I think you may well be jealous.

I want to know who op designs for.

Dd is only 8 but you know, forewarned is forearmed.
" no you are not going in there. And if you do and she says you look nice, run!"

Westwood is the goddess of ample fashion. But that dress looked like she started it, had to nip out, and someone from per ulna design team finished up.

Oooh. Op. Per una design team?

I'm beginning to wonder if some of yous have been bewitched by the royal fairytale if you seriously think any 21/22yo would be able to 'look in the mirror' and see what was actually there.

Eh?

Did you mean to type 1/2 yo? Why on earth would you expect a 21/22 yo to be incapable of making an accurate judgement on whether or not their outfit looked nice/appropriate. I think I had pretty much figured it out by then.

diddl · 30/04/2011 09:56

"But I'm a fashion designer, so what would I know "

Exactly, what would you know?

Perhaps they are advised by people to wear fashion-for the sake of it, rather than something that suits them.

I didn´t like Eugenies outfit at all, thought that Beatrice´s was lovely apart from the hat-but perhaps not the best colour for her.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 30/04/2011 09:56

Well actually, 4 years ago I customised 2 pairs of Converse.....so I to am a fashion designer.......

Jealous....yes....ok....Hmm
