Get ready ladies

I think designers should stop producing those horrid strapless wedding dresses,. Every wedding i've been to in the last two years has had a bride in a strapless number. Sleeves are much more classy on a wedding dress.
I still don't get the fuss about Pippa, she has a lovely arse, that's about it.
Her dress was not all that tbh..
I liked Kate's dress and thought that she looked really elegant.

GitAwfMayLend · 01/05/2011 14:02

yy to granny's 'blood and bandages'

Forehead - you can join my sad club of strapless plain sheat dress haters.

Kate's dress by far outclassed Pippa's - as a bride's dress should be better than the bridesmaids, imo. I didn't like the cowl neckline of Pippa's dress, very dated I think.

sleepingsowell · 01/05/2011 14:19

forehead and GitAwf, can I join?! I hate hate hate all strapless wedding dresses - have NEVER been to a wedding where the bride actually suited a strapless dress, I think they suit almost nobody. and they are totally without class or style or imagination as far as I can see.
And I can't see why anyone would make a fuss about pippa middleton, it was like seeing a string bean in a white dress! I mean, she is a pretty girl and the dress was fine but I really don't get the fuss, except it confirms if you want blokes to look at you, tight dresses are still the way to go!!
I thought Kate's dress was a triumph, really beautiful, almost perfect.
And lets hope she starts a fashion for wedding dresses with sleeves!!

oohlaalaa · 01/05/2011 14:52

Yay, for strapless dress haters club. Unfortunately in real life I cannot say that I hate them, as most of my friends and family wore strapless.

iscream · 01/05/2011 15:15

We (family & I) liked Kate's dress. Especially the silhouette of the bustle when she walked. I liked all of the wedding party clothing, thought they all looked very nice.

fedupalready · 01/05/2011 15:33

marks out of 10, well she was'nt going to be wearing one from Oxfam was she, had to be amazing, so who really cares TBH.

campion · 01/05/2011 15:51

Join me in with the strapless nay sayers. Why do they never fit?

I bet there are a few priests who see more than they bargained for on the altar step Wink

sleepingsowell · 01/05/2011 16:32

exactly campion. So - so.....vulgar!

sausagesandmarmelade · 01/05/2011 17:43

Agree with Rockin...the only problem with strapless dresses is when they don't fit properly....ie the dress is too big or too small for the bride.

As to those who say they're not classy....
The ones you've seen aren't maybe....Perhaps they were cheap and ill fitting.

Autumn Kelly wore a strapless number like meself...with a little lace bolero jacket (like meself) and I think she looked great...

TheSmallClanger · 01/05/2011 17:44

Strapless dresses have become too ubiquitous. They are like a song that has been overplayed.

sausagesandmarmelade · 01/05/2011 17:44

Read today that Kate's dress cost £250,000

STAGGERING!

mousymouse · 01/05/2011 17:49

WHAT?

expatinscotland · 01/05/2011 17:52

'Every wedding i've been to in the last two years has had a bride in a strapless number.'

Yep, strapless dress - they never fit properly - with hair up, to make the bride look even more naked from the waist up. Horrid. Not an iota of class or taste, half naked in church. Yak.

I agree about Pippa. She has a bit of a horsey face, IMO. Kate's better-looking.

She's a nice figure, lots of women do at that age having had no children and no financial restraints on any assistance that can provided to look one's best, but she's hardly a world-class beauty.

fifitot · 01/05/2011 17:54

Hate strapless dresses. It is a look that suits some but not most. Unless you have nice shoulders and toned arms you end up looking like a navvy!

giveitago · 01/05/2011 17:57

If it cost £250k then she was head. I like the viel.

I had a strapless dress but had a strap fitted to it as I'm out of proportion and needed (in my view) the extra security. And I looked fab and totally classy (ta!) but it did cause a bit stir in the depths of southern italy when the fashion back then was huge and white puffy dresses (aka diana in the '80s). But a big puffy dress doesn't suit 5 ft ladies really.

I think Kate looked really lovely.

sausagesandmarmelade · 01/05/2011 17:59

That's right Mousey!!! £250,000........unbelievable!

It was a nice dress...gorgeous...but how it warranted that price?!

SybilBeddows · 01/05/2011 18:03

the handmade lace will have been a big part of it I suppose.... employing a large number of people for a few months will mount up quite quickly.

sausagesandmarmelade · 01/05/2011 18:04

Am sure you looked amazing giveit...

am going to a wedding as a guest soon...and for the evening do am wearing a linea raffaelli 3 piece. Long silk skirt with contrasting strapless top...with a little jacket that can go on top of that...

Now....without bragging...there is NOTHING vulgar about my outfit...even without the jacket on. No backfat...no underarm bits...niente!

Have to say I would love to see what some of the critiques here are wearing today and what they look like in real life!!!! Smile

sausagesandmarmelade · 01/05/2011 18:06

Yes they got the royal school of needlework working round the clock making the lace bits...

But even soooo...250 grand! You could buy a house for that!

SybilBeddows · 01/05/2011 18:07

not if you were royal. You could buy about a tenth of a house, I would think, and even then you would think you were being modest. Wink

expatinscotland · 01/05/2011 18:13

Clothes that fit and are age-appropriate. I wore a strapless dress to a ball when I was 18 and a size 6. I didn't think it looked good but it was a last-minute invite and I had to borrow a gown.

sausagesandmarmelade · 01/05/2011 18:13

Thing is...I thought the middletons were coughing up some of the bill. I'd of thought that part of it was buying the wedding dress.

I know it's all relative...I mean if you have assets worth of several millions..then I guess it's petty cash. If they could afford to buy Kate a flat for 750,000 (in Chelsea) then I guess 250 grand is not so much to them...LOL

Interesting article here...

Al0uiseG · 01/05/2011 18:14

Thought that 250k was the cost of everything to the Middletons?

diddl · 01/05/2011 18:28

Me too.

And bloody good of them, I say, as tbh, most of the expenses would have been incurred by "the Firm" and the expectations of due to it being a Royal wedding.

Did anyone ever question how much the Spencers contributed?

expatinscotland · 01/05/2011 18:31

Who cares how much it costs? It was paid for from someone's private monies. I do wonder how much that monstrosity on My Big Fat Royal Gypsy Wedding cost, though :o.
