I posted this in feminism but think this is appalling, if true.

CCP,

ZERO GROWTH OVER 6 MONTHS. More than enough?

Star Wars quotes? This thread has now officially gone weird.

QuelleLeJeff · 28/04/2011 10:15

ccpccp - No growth over 6 months is No Growth Over 6 Months.

I think there might be a comprehension problem here...

larrygrylls · 28/04/2011 10:17

Stewie,

This is my last engagement in this sub debate, as it is extremely boring. I argue views and facts. That is it. I do not make ad hominem attacks though I do defend myself against blatant bullying.

You love the ad hominem attack if anyone disagrees with your views and love to shriek "entitlement" at any man who happens to see things slightly differently to you.

You clearly dislike me (or my posts at least, as you don't know me). I have no view of you other than you like to be in charge, which I can directly see from your posts.

Well, bonne chance.

Beachcomber · 28/04/2011 10:17

Larry stop telling me how to post. Alright? Now.

I said;

"Also comparing outcomes for middle class women and working class men is just pointless in terms of feminist analysis."

You accused me of "tell(ing) other posters in what terms they are allowed to analyse."

I did no such thing. I applied my analysis to another poster's comments. Nowhere did I tell the poster concerned how they may analyse/post/comment/think or whatever.

As said by SGM, you are not in charge here and I may post how I like. The etiquette on MN is to report a post that you feel is out of order. You may, of course, report my posts if you have an issue with them.

Quodlibet · 28/04/2011 10:19

The comment was a derogatory joke which works on the premise of belittling her on account of her sex. Because of the Michael Winner ads the undertone is 'love, these things we're talking about are too complicated for your flustered little female mind so stop talking (and get back in the kitchen)'

If he'd made a comment which belittled someone on account of their race would that be 'just banter'?

Fuckssake.

Gooseberrybushes · 28/04/2011 10:21

"This is my last engagement in this sub debate, as it is extremely boring. I argue views and facts. That is it."

"Bonne chance".

Really?

Gooseberrybushes · 28/04/2011 10:22

Larry love you are coming over all unnecessary. Take a breath.

ccpccp · 28/04/2011 10:23

"No growth over 6 months? Good?!"

Ha ha - so were averaging it now I see? I dont recall a lot of averaging out going on when we had -0.5% last time. It was all about that quarter.

Face it, the naysdayers were wrong this time. We have some growth while making cuts, and no double dip in sight. Plus 400k jobs created in the private sector or something? Sounds good to me.

Lilmeena · 28/04/2011 10:24

I'm sure Bonne Chance is a country and western singer -

In fact I'm certain

larrygrylls · 28/04/2011 10:24

Gooseberry,

Seriously, I am decidedly calm. Just don't get why Stewie jumps from civilised debate to calling my posts "stupid" and me "unpleasant". She has every right to do so but it is hardly in the spirit of a decent discussion.

Gooseberrybushes · 28/04/2011 10:25

Yes, sure you are, sure you are.

QuelleLeJeff · 28/04/2011 10:27

What were you saying about the negative growth in the last quarter then ccpccp?

JoanofArgos · 28/04/2011 10:27

Who said that?

Reading the papers this morning, what is really infuriating is that she was actually correcting him on his distortion of the truth, and quite rightly pointing out that he was lying - only to have this shouted down and categorised simply as her not being 'calm'!

Now that's annoying.

larrygrylls · 28/04/2011 10:28

CCP,

The cuts have not hit yet. And you always get a rebound when weather effects stats.

I hope we do pull out but I am not sure where the growth is going to come from.

QuelleLeJeff · 28/04/2011 10:29

Oh the irony larry!!

I hope it's not fattening because it really is delicious.

Beachcomber · 28/04/2011 10:29

Anyway, what is quite interesting is that women often get accused of 'shrieking' or similar as a tactic to get them to shut up or to get others to stop listening to them, don't they?

Ms Eagle has been subject to that strategy on this thread and now we are having it done to posters in real time!

All that sort of language just boils down to 'shut up you emotional irrational woman you, go and stroke a kitten or sprinkle some glitter like women should, and leave the important rational stuff to us - it is clearly taxing your ladybrain too much.'

Gooseberrybushes · 28/04/2011 10:31

Quite, Beachcomber. Absolutely deplorable.

QuelleLeJeff · 28/04/2011 10:33

Exactly BC. It's quite funny if it wasn't so utterly depressing. My boss will sometimes to a "shushing" thing to me, you know that finger to the lips "SHHH" thing. I've never ever seen him do it to any of the men who are much louder than I am.

I have started doing it back recently - it's quite good fun looking at his face when he shushes me and I shush him back. The hours just fly by here

Beachcomber · 28/04/2011 10:35

Exactly Joan - he pulled an old-style bully trick to get her to shut up because she was pulling him up on being wrong/bullshitting.

He probably would have got away with it, given the nature of PMQs, if he hadn't been stupid enough to make a sexist gaff at the same time.

larrygrylls · 28/04/2011 10:35

Beachcomber,

Men can bray, shout, whine or sound like a foghorn. Women's voices have higher pitches so when they do shout irrationally, it can be described as shrieking. Unless the higher pitches are a patriarchal conspiracy.

nortine · 28/04/2011 10:36

I can't believe that some much time and effort has been devoted to something so insignificant. There are local/assembly elections a week today so I see the Labour Party are trying to stoke it for their own political advantage but really are people really bothered by this.

QuelleLeJeff · 28/04/2011 10:37

Why was she shouting irrationally? Confused Is it because she has a vagina? Maybe her vagina was shouting irrationally. I suppose the men are shouting coherantly, their penises are much less irrational than vaginas.

Lilmeena · 28/04/2011 10:37

BC; what you describe is exactly how (some) feminists talk to other women - women who don't share their views.
