why is it appalling? I would say it to my female and male friends if they were getting hysterical or shouty. It is nothing to do with gender.

PMQs are full of pathetic school-boy rah rah rahing, cackling and waving bits of paper around in place of genuine debate so it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

It is patronising, and I'm sure they patronise men in different ways, but I see why you are annoyed by it. It doesn't reflect well on him

It was just a throwaway comment. It seems that some women are hypersensitive. I saw this on PM's questions and thought it was an appropriate put-down to all of the over the top noise she was making.

You are getting far too overexcited about what has always been a combative and "robust" exchange of views. Ken Clarke always had the opposition draining imaginary glasses, Prescott had his girth made fun of etc etc.

I cannot imagine old Maggie being too worried about that kind of remark. She would have batted the insult back with wit rather than whining about it.
