To think that the world will never turn to being veggy...and meat is actually quite tasty...yumm ....roast chicken....

But buying free range/freedom food meat if you can afford it is the next best thing?

Its an opinion, and a minority one at that. Abused animals? You haven't defined that at all, I think you'll find that the UK has more stringent rules on animal welfare than most countries of the world and so I reject your entire premise out of hand anyway. Putting you firmly into Hmm territory in my book.

TidyDancer · 22/04/2011 11:59

Couldn't give a shite what territory you are putting me in. If you think you can reject my premise just because we are in the UK, I feel very sad for you, you may want to do some more research, though I suspect since your current opinion suits you, finding out more is not something that would be of interest to you. Animal abuse in the UK meat industry is more than present and it doesn't take much to find that out.

Vallhala · 22/04/2011 12:01

Winter, I'm fully aware that none of my opinions meet with your approval. You've made that clear frequently.

Back on topic... meateaters. Barbaric.

:o

Vallhala · 22/04/2011 12:03

Here's your bacon sandwich Winter

Now fuck off.

kokolp · 22/04/2011 12:04

YANBU all that will happen will the price of meat will keep going up.

Itsjustafleshwound · 22/04/2011 12:07

The thing that really depresses me is when vegetarians bang on about cruelty to animals, but forget that there is a huge environmental cost to EVERYTHING that we eat ....

TidyDancer · 22/04/2011 12:09

I don't think anyone has forgotten there is an environmental cost to everything we DO, let alone EAT tbh. Don't worry. :)

TidyDancer · 22/04/2011 12:11

What Vallhala said.

But Val, I don't think people like Winter will be interested in knowing where their yummy (boak) bacon sandwiches come from. It's a bit too honest.

But thank you for posting that, am hopefuly it might shock one person enough to realise the truth.

TidyDancer · 22/04/2011 12:11

hopefuly hopeful

Vallhala · 22/04/2011 12:13

The wider environment isn't forgotten, flesh, just not a priority for some of us, whereas the cruelty issues are. As I said in a lighthearted thread last night, please don't tar all of us veggies/vegans with the green, eco-friendly, woo brush.

Val - a vegan petrol-head with no knowledge of aromatherapy and a deep dislike of eco-warriors and recycling. :o

Itsjustafleshwound · 22/04/2011 12:14

Really tidydancer?? A friend mentioned a little to me about palm-oil and just how it is devastating it is to natural environment and wildlife ....

worraliberty · 22/04/2011 12:14

God no I hope not OP. I eat meat with almost every single meal Shock

Itsjustafleshwound · 22/04/2011 12:15

But surely getting rid of the natural habitat is even crueler??

The meat products have legislation to show source - soya products don't -

TidyDancer · 22/04/2011 12:19

Okay, probably shouldn't have said 'anyone', used that a bit too liberally! I certainly haven't forgotten though.

WassaAxolotlEgg · 22/04/2011 12:19

Itsjustafleshwound

  1. Soy is not only used for vegetarian products. It's used to feed livestock. So, eating meat can also contribute to destroying the Amazonian rainforest, if that's what you were thinking of.

  2. [[http://www.ethical-company-organisation.org/the-good-shopping-guide.htm assesses companies on various criteria, including the source of materials, such as soy.

WassaAxolotlEgg · 22/04/2011 12:20

Mucked up the link

WassaAxolotlEgg · 22/04/2011 12:22

And a very quick googling informed me that

^In 1998 the UK imported over 2,000,000 tonnes of soya products, mainly from the USA and Brazil, over half for animal feed. It is cheaper for UK farmers to rely on 'ghost hectares' of intensively-grown soya abroad, often in developing countries, than to rely on home-produced high-protein feed alternatives.

Transporting soya over 5000 miles to end up as a feed for intensively-reared livestock in the UK has serious environmental implications. The ghost hectares abroad for feeding British livestock (400,000 hectares in 1995) can undermine food and land security in exporting countries. In Brazil alone an area of 13 million hectares (equivalent to England and Scotland combined) is devoted to growing soya. This crop has replaced thousands of square miles of small farms, whilst its highly mechanised cultivation has contributed to unemployment and rural migration.^

fnd this thread a bit sad tbh.agree that all us veggies are way ahead of our time.guess its just not fashionable at the mo.

LynetteScavo · 22/04/2011 12:31

I think large parts of the world will....it think future generations will look back on meat eaters like we look back on the burning of witches.

And I'm a meat eater.

Sometimes I think it's an intelligence thing...how many thick vegetarians do you get? But then there are some quite intelligent meat eaters. Hmm

WassaAxolotlEgg · 22/04/2011 12:34

Oh, it's not so bad. On a thread in a mainstream parenting forum,
we have posters who are vegans, vegetarians, and people reducing their meat consumption in favour of more ethically produced meat.

40 years ago, people got reported to Social Services for bringing up children vegetarian. If anyone started a thread asking if they should do that, they'd be torn apart.

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 22/04/2011 12:34

Frequently? One comment on one thread? Thats a giant head you've grown on your vegan diet, with a giant ego to match, You're really not that interesting. Hmm

nice to see you all jumping to conclusions when as you can see (if you take the time from judging to actually read) that I haven't commented on my own thoughts at all. For all you know I'm a vegetarian, or a member of any number of groups ranging from animal rights to the organic soil association. So easy to jsut decide though. Lazy lazy lazy.

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 22/04/2011 12:36

"fnd this thread a bit sad tbh.agree that all us veggies are way ahead of our time.guess its just not fashionable at the mo." >>>

I don't think being that arrogant and full of yourself is compulsory for vegetarians is it? You're just like so perfect and honourable and avant garde Good joke.

sharbie · 22/04/2011 12:38

Smile that's better

sharbie · 22/04/2011 12:39

calm down winter

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 22/04/2011 12:40

I'm calm, just can't abide smug fuckers, whatever their diet.
