To think my neighbours should open their windows in this heat?

There are five of them in there - Mum, Dad and three teenage kids, a cat and loads of pet mice.
It's been 24 degrees here today, they're all at home (was chatting to the Dad earlier)
AIBU to think that they should really open a window or two?
(Whether IABU or not, I know I'm bloody nosey Blush)

Quiet night, is it? Hmm

dementedma · 20/04/2011 21:20

what the heck does it have to do with you?

FourEyesGood · 20/04/2011 21:21

Maybe they're all wandering around in the nude. There's a nice image for you. Grin

BettySpaghettiOnAJetty · 20/04/2011 21:22

I may be being unreasonable and nosy too but I cannot help wondering why my neighbors not only do not ever open their windows but never open their curtains either. Very unhealthy, I am sure.

AuntiePickleBottom · 20/04/2011 21:23

maybe they have air conditioning, and it only works with the windows shut.....thats how the air con in my car works best

compo · 20/04/2011 21:23

Yanbu

but some people are scared of bugs flying in Blush

chocolateteabag · 20/04/2011 21:23

Hmm Maybe they have Hayfever? Or it's too noisy outside?
Or they just love the smell of their own farts (I'm thinking Dad and teenagers here...)

purplerabbitofinle · 20/04/2011 21:24

YABU. None of your beeswax!

sparklingchampagne · 20/04/2011 21:25

Betty my neighbours don't open their curtains either - perhaps they are the same neighbours?

And BTW, it has absolutely bugger all to do with me. I'm not going to ask them, was just wondering when I took the washing in. . .

Our house is quite cool, so if we opened the windows it would warm the house up.

libelulle · 20/04/2011 21:25

Bar one in the bedroom, our windows don't actually open - the sashes are sealed shut with paint. They are no. 472 on our list of urgent house tasks. Maybe your neighbours' ones are the same?

Or one of them has hayfever.

I should judge you for being an interfering busybody, but our neighbours used to keep all their curtains closed 24/7, all year round (though they did open the windows!). And it might well have occurred to me to wonder what happened in there Grin

FoxyRevenger · 20/04/2011 21:26

Maybe they don't want any smoke to escape from their hash den Grin

squeakytoy · 20/04/2011 21:26

Are you my neighbour? I dont have my windows open, as I hate flies and wasps coming in, and I have air con on.

mmmmmchocolate · 20/04/2011 21:27

I had my windows closed during the hot hot weather a few weeks ago. We had a wasps nest inside the wall cavity outside my bedroom so it was either 29 degree bedroom or multiple wasp stings.

Luckily I like being toasty.

libelulle · 20/04/2011 21:28

x-posted. What is it with all the non-curtain-openers? The neighbours in our case were recent immigrants from China; I did wonder if it was a cultural thing. But possibly they were just weird!

shinyshoes · 20/04/2011 21:28

My friend has ALL her windows and doors shut all year round . She never even opened them today and it was sweltering outside . Her excuse ? She's frightened someone will come in and steal her child Hmm
perhaps they are highly strung like her?

LynetteScavo · 20/04/2011 21:29

Doesn't the cat try to eat the mice?

I'm Shock that you even noticed their windows weren't open.

PaperView · 20/04/2011 21:29

It's sometimes cooler to keep the windows shut and the curtains closed.

usualsuspect · 20/04/2011 21:29

So what

AuntiePickleBottom · 20/04/2011 21:30

my back garden is out of view, and the curtain is always open so is the windows in hot weather.

however the front the curtains are closed as the room is like a sun trap and i can't see the television even if it is just the music channels on all day

sparklingchampagne · 20/04/2011 21:32

They're not highly strung, very laid back - so maybe Foxy's right about the hash den :)

Stupid decorators psinted our windows shut last year so you can judge me too. I sometimes don't open the front room curtains either. Don't give a toss what they neighbours think!

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 20/04/2011 21:33

The rooms at the front of my house never get hot because they never get any direct sunlight. The rooms at the back do so the windows will be opened but only on the latch - you can't even get your fingers out. But that is because otherwise the cat will escape and she isn't allowed outside. And I don't like letting bugs and buzzy things in.

DH and I never used to open our curtains because we would leave the house while it was dark and when we got home it would still be dark so we didn't need the curtains open. I never cared what the neighbours thought.

Lambskin · 20/04/2011 21:33

We had our windows shut today because ds2 is terrified of flying things, and it was actually much cooler than yesterday when we had everything open. We live in an old house that's always cold though.

sparklingchampagne · 20/04/2011 21:33

Oops, sorry, was going to say our road is terraced so that how I noticed the windows (or was I just being a nosey git :) )
