To think my neighbours should open their windows in this heat?

There are five of them in there - Mum, Dad and three teenage kids, a cat and loads of pet mice.
It's been 24 degrees here today, they're all at home (was chatting to the Dad earlier)
AIBU to think that they should really open a window or two?
(Whether IABU or not, I know I'm bloody nosey Blush)

Maybe to some I am nosy but I do spend most of my time in my kitchen (living room is upstairs) big patio windows, HA wont change them, I am aware of what goes on around me. I would love a small window and a proper kitchen door,

I couldn't give a shit what they do, im sure my family is a right pain to them as we have barbecues and spend time in the garden when the weather is good,

I'm really enjoying this weather and more so to the proper summer,

I close blinds / curtains as is keeps the house cooler. I did open the windows tonight and now I've got grrrrrr Mozzies

all good continentals know : in hot weather you close your curtains and windows to keep out the heat.

you open up in the morning to let the cool air in

you open up again when the sun's gone off to let it cool down.

my curtains and windows stay firmly closed during the day when it's hot like this.

maddy68 · 21/04/2011 08:17

we keep our curtains closed at thr front because otherwise we cant see the TV it shines straight on it!

iscream · 21/04/2011 08:26

They could have allergies/asthma.
As far as the curtains go, it is hard to say really. Maybe they don't like people to be looking in at them? Maybe they have severe agoraphobia?
Maybe there is a migraine suffer living there?

iscream · 21/04/2011 08:28

Oh my, the obvious answer just struck me. They are vampires!

Before we moved into our house, we'd always lived in top floor flats and hated the thought of net curtains (too suburban, we thought, and we didn't need them anyway).

Then we moved into our house in a quiet London neighbourhood, away from the main streets. We have a front garden, so away from the pavement. However, I was on mat leave when we moved so I was in my lounge all the time. I couldn't believe the amount of people who glanced in as they walked along the pavement. I am sure the vast majority of them were just idly glancing in and not being nosy at all, but I became very self conscious and started to draw my curtains more, which I hated as I love light and airy rooms. So we went to John Lewis and got nice muslin nets and my privacy has been restored.

Our neighbours were the same. Came from a flat, moved into their house when pregnant, no nets but after a few days they too started drawing their blinds during the day. A week or two later their (very nice) nets appeared in their windows too Grin.

Another neighbour moved in down the road - another young family. No nets. Curtains are now always drawn. I'm waiting for the nets to appear!

Not that I care, this is just idle observation, after all. I do have a life Grin.

Our windows are shut so the neighbour's Evil Marauding Tomcats can't get in a spray everywhere. Angry

We's melting!

mrsoliverramsay · 21/04/2011 09:23

My neighbours rarely open windows and curtains either but the windows have flaps at the top that you can open to let air in instead of opening the windows. They have the same windows as us so that's why I know

Who has air-con in the UK?? Confused

lljkk · 21/04/2011 10:13

Pet mice can stink a lot, I am impressed that they can stand it. And Aircon will not help with the smell, either.

firstsupermum · 21/04/2011 12:32

some muslims close the curtain in their houses most of the times for the front windows, as they are nor coverinf inside the house, thats another reason for it.

breathing · 21/04/2011 12:34

The windows are closed in my house. Im wearing a cardi. Its not hot.

OTheHugeManatee · 21/04/2011 12:47

They're clearly vampires. I'd steer well clear Grin

breathing · 21/04/2011 12:49

My feet are freezing too :(
