To think my neighbours should open their windows in this heat?

There are five of them in there - Mum, Dad and three teenage kids, a cat and loads of pet mice.
It's been 24 degrees here today, they're all at home (was chatting to the Dad earlier)
AIBU to think that they should really open a window or two?
(Whether IABU or not, I know I'm bloody nosey Blush)

Perhaps they've converted the seemingly innocent family home into a cannabis factory - that's what my neighbours did...

Did the snow on their roof melt v v quickly last winter???

My friends never open their windows/doors (well, the conservatory door is open 2 inches). I went over today and it was stale and hot. He was sitting on the settee in his underpants. She is paranoid about flies, that's why!

PanicOnTheStreetsOfLondon · 20/04/2011 22:21

It's not that warm.

Op - you need a hobby Smile

AlmightyCitrus · 20/04/2011 22:24

I daren't open my front window. My house is right on the pavement (no front garden) and the numpties who had the house before us put double glazed windows in that open at the bottom.
It was carefully explained to us that if the window is open and someone walks into it accidentally and hurts themself we can get sued.
Can't afford to get it re-done (nor can be arsed with the hassle) so shut it stays.
If I open the back window the bloody dog barks at the breeze moving the curtains.

I have an air-con unit that I use if it gets too hot.

exoticfruits · 20/04/2011 22:25

Get a hobby is good advice.

microserf · 20/04/2011 22:25

my dh is from the south of france and he's been taught never to open the curtains in hot weather to keep the house cool. as for windows - perhaps they have aircon?

decorators painted our windows shut too, so if it's my house - don't worry, the pvc windows at the back are all open and our house is now full of flies.

MaisyMooCow · 20/04/2011 22:27

Their house might be very cool like mine or perhaps they have an aircon unit.

I wish my neighbours would open their bloody windows to stop their cooking smells coming through the walls!Angry

firstsupermum · 20/04/2011 22:28

I lived in very hot country, we do not open the windows in the day time, as it get more hotter, you clean the floor with wather and keep the windows shut all the day to keep the house cool. but still has nothing to do with you Smile

expatinscotland · 20/04/2011 22:30

Maybe they do it to give you something to occupy yourself with.

firstsupermum · 20/04/2011 22:32

a good one expatinscotland

usualsuspect · 20/04/2011 22:38

my ds never opens his bedroom curtains(hes nocturnal)..I bet the neighbours are gossiping about me as I type

CurrySpice · 20/04/2011 22:51

Maybe they don't consider around 20 degrees to be "this heat"?

MsToni · 20/04/2011 22:55

None of your business :o

But really, its so freaking hot.....

With cats and what not...wouldn't the house be stuffy and smelly? Body odors, cooking smells etc etc.....

None of my business, come to think of it :)

firstsupermum · 20/04/2011 22:57

even if its 40degrees, why should i open the windows, for the house to get more hotter.i think their are more important things in life to care about better than nieghbour windows Smile

I'm in a terraced house and my neighbours both sides never have their windows or curtains open, the ones on the left are a young couple, only see them in the mornings when the kids leave for school, they get into their cars to go to work at the same time as kids leave for school, in all the nice weather we have had they have never hung washing out all been out in their garden.

The ones on the right ive had probs with but rarely see them, I've seen her a few times, usually a reflection on my laptop. they hang washing out most days but they are really quick doing it as its not there one minute, i go to wash a cup up or put the kettle on and when i come back they have a whole line of washing out, never see them take it in either, lol

CurlyhairedAssassin · 20/04/2011 23:02

My inlaws house is like that, windows always shut. I refuse to go when its a really hot summers day because their living room gets the sun directly on it and they don't closenthe curtains so it's like sitting in a fetid claustrophobic greenhouse. It's because of nasty wasps apparently. Hmm

firstsupermum · 20/04/2011 23:03

i can beleive i am chatting about that, i find it funny, i never beleive people will be that nosy to know about other.
i am sure they dont have no contact with each other. i am glad i dot have u as neighbour. hope ur not in west london by any chance.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 20/04/2011 23:08

What's with all the 'get a life' toe comments. It's just idle chitchat. Don't read or reply if you think its pointless

CurlyhairedAssassin · 20/04/2011 23:08

Toe??? Damn soft keyboard...

CurrySpice · 20/04/2011 23:11

My toes all have their own lives thank you very much CurlyHairedAssassin Wink

ljgibbs · 20/04/2011 23:19

My neighbour told me that they keep their front curtains closed all the time because the nosey fuckers over the road were always spying on them. Since then I've noticed that the said neighbours are constantly looking out and into my house so I've had to buy blinds for my front windows, so I can tilt them to stop them looking in at us.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 20/04/2011 23:22

I'm making up for it - every window in the house is thrown open to its widest point and the door is still wide open.... of course, my elderly Aunt would say it looks 'common' Grin

I never shut the curtains - but I expect my neighbours would prefer I did - my stance, if you don't want to cop an eyeful - don't look into my house - if you do 'that'll teach ya' and give you nightmares for quite some time to come Grin

sorry to hear that ljgibbs, but realy you can stop them looking but you cant stop them talking, like these ones Smile, i think they will talk more because they can get what they want (spying).
