AIBU to be fed up with the royal wedding hype, it's everywhere, the news, shop displays, its way to much and very annoying, not all of us are madly in love with the royals or Kate Middletun, moan over.

YANBU at all

I hate it all

Hate them

hate the crap memorabilia and the pathetic enthusiasm

Couldn't give a shit about her dress

My 2 least favourite things rolled into 1 - marriage and elitism

highhopes2010 · 13/04/2011 22:34

YANBU. Not to say I'm not happy for them-because I am. But walking round morrissons today the happy couple were on a bloody biscuit tin and my immediate thought was "I've had enough now".Actually I think they might feel the same way-wouldnt you? I know I would if my face and wedding plans were constantly shoved in the worlds face! would be cringing actually.

Jaquelinehyde · 13/04/2011 22:38

I'm getting married the day before so everytime you hear about them just imagine my wedding! It works for me Grin

EllieG · 13/04/2011 22:39

My sister is getting married this weekend. There's way more hype about that in my family. Not sure which is worse frankly Wink - at sis if she sees this post

fedupalready · 13/04/2011 22:42

I went to my local Co-op today and there were union jack flags hanging everywhere anyone would think we'd just won a war!

OP posts:
highhopes2010 · 13/04/2011 22:44

congratulations JaquelineGrin. Hope you have a lovely day!

MaisyMooCow · 13/04/2011 22:45

I'm loving it but then that's because I'm making a few quid from it. Retailers are rubbing their hands together at the moment, it's just what they need right now.

highhopes2010 · 13/04/2011 22:45

There's a house near me that's covered it windows, front door, all over it in flags and pictures of them!

highhopes2010 · 13/04/2011 22:47

So you're a retailer maisy? Is there alot of people buying their stuff then?

horriblemotheragain · 13/04/2011 22:51

I don't mind it - makes a change and it will all be over soon. Wouldn't hang a flag out or anything, but I'll watch it. And I am quite looking forward to the dress... Blush

fedupalready · 13/04/2011 22:58

highhopes2010, do you think the house is in a competition? it would'nt surprise me. Probably have people getting Will & Kate tattoos next, and union jacks on their heads!

Sunshineonacloudyday · 13/04/2011 23:05

I am going away that weekend so it will just be about me and my family not Wills and Kate's wedding. I don't no them, I wish them luck for the future. Just remember money don't buy you happieness or love they have to work on that. Don't bother watch the hype just feel sorry for them because what ever happens in their relationship we will hear about it.

CocktailQueen · 13/04/2011 23:09

Aah, I think we haven't heard THAT much about it, and I'm quite excited about it! I like a good wedding, I want to see what her dress is like, and I'm looking forward to it all (even tho the last royal weddings have not had such happy endings... hope springs eternal, eh?) Grin

weedle · 13/04/2011 23:13

YADNBU - it's so dull! On the upside we're off for the weekend so I'm hoping all the bank holiday drivers will be the sort to stay in and watch the wedding Wink

FriggFRIGG · 13/04/2011 23:22

if you're feeling sick...

MaisyMooCow · 14/04/2011 00:11

highhopes yes, and sales of union jack bunting is selling out everywhere. People just can't get enough!!!

I think the fuss is more about an opportunity to party rather than the wedding itself.

Goodynuff · 14/04/2011 01:48

oh my sweet jimminy , YANBU!!! Here in Canada, it is on the news, every morning. "Today we will learn about the ring"..."Today we will learn about the cake"....today I will throw my tv through the window!!!!
Then they had a report that said 70% of Canadians don't care. But sure as rain is wet, the next morning on the news "Today we will visit the village where Kate grew up" Just be over already...

madwomanintheattic · 14/04/2011 02:17

i'm curing that by not watching the news, goody. Grin

i do confess to wondering today which channel will have the best live coverage though, as i probably will watch it with the dcs... ctv, you think? Blush

the local sparks are having a princess party to celebrate, which i think is probably the only legitimate reason to dress a room of six year old girls in frills. it beats a street party, anyway. (although suspect there may be even one of those, having overheard a conversation yesterday)

i don't think i've got a union jack to hand though...

doley · 14/04/2011 02:18

I am in the US ,lots of coverage .

I like William very much ,I think both boys were amazingly brave when their Mum died ~for that reason alone ,I think it is a wonderful occasion for William .

I am normally a sage ,and not particularly interested in the Royal family ,but after 6/7 years of what we have here in the US ...well,I am ready for a Wedding .Grin

When I see the wealth and elitism ,I just remind myself that none of the Royals chose that way of life and that for the most part they do a fantastic job.

I don't think this will be a popular opinion however ?

Goodynuff · 14/04/2011 02:24

madwomanintheattic for the record, I am news addict Blush one day, I'll be strong enough to walk away...
I have no problem with the wedding, the royals, Will and Kate, or anything like that, I just don't need a segment on it every flippin day! If we heard about it once in a while, then I would likely be excited to watch, it just feels like CTV is going too far. This morning, it was "Here is a girl who has used ancestry.ca to trace her roots to see if she is related to the royals" ffs

LDNmummy · 14/04/2011 02:33

I'm just avoiding it wherever possible as I would really start to loathe it otherwise. I do wonder how thrilled I would be to see random psychotically smiley mask like cutouts of my face hanging in shop windows... very creeped out probably.

madwomanintheattic · 14/04/2011 02:39

ctv it is then Grin - but i'll be sure not to watch anything before the actual day. i think one day of cheese should do me nicely. Grin

despite desperately wanting now to know if the random womans was, indeed, vaguely related to any royals. at all. i am assuming not.

i gave up work on friday as well (to finish my masters lol, not just because) so how i've managed half a week without putting on daytime tv is a mystery even to me...

madwomanintheattic · 14/04/2011 02:39

womans? dear god. let's hope i splchock the dissertation, eh?

Goodynuff · 14/04/2011 02:45

madwomanintheattic She wasn't, but about 24 generations back she was related to William the conqueror Grin
CTV will be having live coverage, you can check the times on CTV.CA

madwomanintheattic · 14/04/2011 02:49
Grin obviously. william the conqueror. Grin

i remember my mum and dad buying a shiny new colour tv for the last one. i won't be doing the same.
