AIBU to be fed up with the royal wedding hype, it's everywhere, the news, shop displays, its way to much and very annoying, not all of us are madly in love with the royals or Kate Middletun, moan over.

Madwoman, Goodynuff... I have actually stopped watching bloody CTV thanks to their incessant cringey coverage. We moved here from England last year... and I honestly cannot believe how crazy the coverage is here.

I am a republican through and through, and this whole drama is actually making me sick thinking of all the money that will be spent. Could have fed a country for a month that.

I also threatened to pull my subscription to Macleans after that naff cover... didn't work though :(

Cadpat · 14/04/2011 02:58

PS - They're also barking if they think I am going to wake up to watch the live coverage... am in Alberta and the wedding, I think, is being covered from 4 AM... I can barely function before 11 AM!

anonymosity · 14/04/2011 06:21

what else is there to report?
jolly stuff like tsunami fall out
economic recovery still not quite happening...

there has to be something vaguely happy and / or neutral.

don't the royals fit that bill perfectly?

Branno · 14/04/2011 06:29

Log on to goodplasticsurgery.com and have a look at the work young Kate had - twill take the ting out of the hype! And you know what - God help her.

diddl · 14/04/2011 07:26

I don´t think she needs help at all-I think she´s revelling in it all tbh.

She strikes me to be like Diana became iyswim.

No interest in the wedding though-a boring heir but one marrying a very ordinary girl with whom he has lived for many years.

catchmeifyoucan · 14/04/2011 07:31

God what a bunch of miserable bastards! Stop hating ffs. Ignore or embrace but stop the hating - it's so totally pointless and says a lot about you.

horriblemotheragain · 14/04/2011 08:47

I agree - at least it is something positive on the news! They seem like a nice down-to-earth couple (as much as you can be in that position), they've been together for years so nasty surprises like Diana had, so good on them!

Although I do think she looked worryingly thin the other day in that dark blue suit. Hopefully just pre-wedding nerves. I was 7st on my wedding day and am now 10st, so obviously my nerves dissipated afterwards Wink

horriblemotheragain · 14/04/2011 08:47

no nasty surprises, sorry.

diddl · 14/04/2011 08:51

I´m not sure how not being interested equates to hating.

And the title is "AIBU to be sick to death of...", so there might not be that much "embracing"

And it´s hard to ignore when constantly on the news/in the papers

QueenofDreams · 14/04/2011 08:57

The hype is ridiculous. I wish them all the best. Hope they are very happy. But honestly, a local childrens centre is hosting a pampering evening to get us all ready for the big day! wtf? why do I need to get ready for awedding I'm not even going to!

ivykaty44 · 14/04/2011 08:59

I haven't seen the frenzy, I have seen it on tv - but then I don't have a tv. I haven't seen it in shop displays, but then I haven't been to a large supermarket or shopping center for at least 2 month.

I have seen headlines on the newspapers - but I don't read the actual article as I don't have to if I don't want to

YABU

diddl · 14/04/2011 09:02

Yes, I also hope they are happy, as I would wish to any couple.

But I think that they are so much now in the papers that to me, anyway, there doesn´t seem to be anything special about the Royals any more.

So follwing that, this wedding is no more special than that of any other couple that I don´t know.

fedupalready · 14/04/2011 09:12

doley, Royals do a fanastic job, name one Grin Fergie, Andrew, Camilla, hmmmmmmmmmm don't think so. Their past history of marriage failures leaves a lot to be desired, hardly good role models are they. They lead privileged lifestyles and take advantage of that imo, private education, holidays, private security, massive houses, you'd never spot one in your local Tesco's would you, just very fortunate people who I personally do not worship.

As for being postive news, maybe so, but you might not want to see the costs of the security bill which the tax payer is coughing up, last I heard £30 million, but hey if it makes some of you happy they're worth it Grin

YANBU. I am also sick of it. Unfortunately it is my mum's favourite topic of conversation, and we are very close (speak to each other daily).

I'm looking forward to seeing a few pretty photos of her in dress, but will not be watching it on telly.

WriterofDreams · 14/04/2011 09:17

I'm Irish so I have no particular attachment to the royals but I think the wedding is lovely lovely lovely and I am soooo excited about it Grin There are so many horrible stories on the news about war and death, isn't it nice to have something so positive and hopeful? Can't people just enjoy a beautiful occasion for once and not snipe about it? I know the commercialism surrounding it is naff but in the next century that stuff will all be part of history and we'll have lived through it! How exciting :)

fedupalready · 14/04/2011 09:24

Latest news out today it's official Kate is wearing her hair down, wow can't wait to see her hair on the big day, so its down not up, down, amazing. I'm so excited.

i haven't seen much 'stuff' anywhere really, some bunting in a charity shop and that's about it.

QuoththeRaven · 14/04/2011 09:52

oh dear gods, i hoped this was a joke william and kate the movie

releasd on april 25th as a straight to dvd movie

Animation · 14/04/2011 10:01

I see it as a nice bit of escapism - and on the actual day I'll get myelf set up to watch it all day- and I'll glued. Brew Biscuit and Wine = sorted!

MaundyBra · 14/04/2011 10:03

Not all small businesses are profiting from the Royal Wedding MaisieMooCow. I'm having to take an enforced day off and lose a day's income.

caughtinanet · 14/04/2011 10:10

fedupalready "you'd never spot one in your local Tesco's would you" - when I lived in London in the mid 80s Princess Diana was often shopping in the Sainburys in Kensington and I imagine if you live near William or Harry you would see them doing the same nowadays.

I don't think there's mush coverage at all, I watch the news, go shopping and surf the internet and I've noticed very little, you sound very bitter about it all.

Robins · 14/04/2011 11:33

I'm not a staunch Royalist but don't hate them either. I like tradition and oldfashioned values though and Royality and Christianity are all tied up with the ancient history of our country and think it's a shame people slag it off so much or try and think too deeply about it instead of just enjoying it for what it is. I also think a lot of people slag things off because they are ignorant of a lot of stuff. I don't profess to understand everything about Christianity (though christened and confirmed and my children are christened) or History, but I believe in a lot of Chistian values and that gets me through. I also don't think it's necessary for people to attend church regularly, why can't they be a little in between instead of one extreme to the other. I truely believe the the Church (all denominations) would rather have this. A lot of us need to lighten up and be proud to be British. Some of the expressions I read about the Royals , "in bred parasites" make me feel sick. A lot of businesses will be making money out of this, from the burger vendors in the street to the five star hotels. Sure they won't be complaining. I sort of feel proud when I see flags etc but also a little embarrassed because of the attitude of a lot of people towards it. Proud to be English, and proud to be British, though there is a lot wrong. The Americans love us, it's just that we don't love ourselves.
