To be upset that a restaurant asked me to take my crying baby out ofthe restaurant

40Weeks · 13/04/2011 11:32

went for a meal yesterday eve at a local Zizzi's restaurant. Ds3 is 6 weeks and was a bit restless, crying on and off. The restaurant was quiet as it was 6pm and was there with dcs (mine and dsis) kids had eaten most of their meal and we had not long started ours (ordered it a bit later than the kids meals) and were taking it in turns to soothe him and dmum and dbil were there too. Apparently some customers complained about his crying so the manageress came and asked us to quieten him down or take him outside!

Aibu to think this is disgraceful?

I had breadtfed him but was facing away from other customers so don't think it was because of this. The complaining customers said that their daughter took their dgc to the ladies in such situations. Nice.

I am still reeling from this and not sure if I am bent oversensitive or if it's really weird to be offended by a baby, crying or not!

4 adults and 5 kids - one of the adults should have taken responsiblitity it's not rocket science

SoupDragon · 13/04/2011 16:16

You were rude because you didn't take your crying baby away when he wouldn't settle! with all those adults in your group, it wouldn't have been hard.

bemybebe · 13/04/2011 16:17

tabulahrasa 100% with you on this

btw, we should leave the restaurant according to the OP

AllDirections · 13/04/2011 16:19

YANBU

I think the lack of tolerance shown in the restaurant and on this thread is astounding!

Diggs · 13/04/2011 16:19

I wouldnt have been arsed to aproach you , what could i possibly say apart from tell you that your baby was making a racket , a fact that you were already aware of but wasnt doing anything about .

crunchbag · 13/04/2011 16:20

But 40Weeks according to yourself the restaurant did not ask you to leave, they suggested taking the baby out for a little while.

Evilclown · 13/04/2011 16:21

This reminds me of the recent thread where the lady went into wetherspoonsr with her small child and baby. Whilst queing for a drink, her toddler is running about the bar area and when an older lady passes near him with her drinks the op calls out "Careful" to the lady. Said lady takes offence and has a bit of a go at op, who takes it upon herself to follow lady to her table and have a go at her.

here

Despite several pages of posts she could not see what she had done wrong.

Op you are being selfish and unreasonable to expect other diners to go elsewhere so you and other adults could finish your meals. You should have taken the baby outside to settle. That is what you do when you take small babies into restaurants, even family ones. It is part of the territory that goes with being a parent.

It gives all parents a bad name.

mosschops30 · 13/04/2011 16:24

ROFL at this thread.
YABU massively, i cant believe some of the thi gs youve posted (diners holding their meals or 20 mins until you had gone, or leaving for another restaurant lol)
What a selfish attitude! Parents like you are a nightmare, i normally get the apartment undeneath you on holiday where your kids drag chairs, throw stuff off the balcony, get up at the crack of dawn etc while you lovingly sit thinkinh how lovely they are.

Get with the programme No ONE ELSE WANTS TO LISTEN TO YOUR BABY, DEAL WITH IT!

kidks · 13/04/2011 16:24

Dear all,
I am new to mumsnet today. I have followed some other threads and thought how wonderfully supportive the site is. I have then read this entire thread and it really disturbed me. Whatever you think of someone else's behaviour, I cannot see any justification in making the comments made. No wonder 40 weeks hasn't responded further. Quite honestly, if it was me I would be in floods of tears. What happened to being a supportive community. An opinion can still be aired without resorting to what appears to me as email bullying.
Perhaps this site isn't for me after all...

TandB · 13/04/2011 16:25

I was in a cafe yesterday (sneaky hot chocolate between leaving court and doing nursery pick-up!) and there were two mums with young babies. One was crying persistently and her mum just kept saying "shush" - not soothingly, not the "shush shush shush" we all do, but crossly, as you might to an older child who was interrupting. Needless to say the baby, who appeared to be only a few weeks old, did not miraculously shush, but the mum seemed determined to finish her coffee and her chat. It is part and parcel of being a mum to a young baby. The rest of the world didn't ask you to procreate and while tolerance is necessary from all parties, you really can't be surprised if people get irritated when you don't make sensible attempts to keep baby and the world at large happy.

SoupDragon · 13/04/2011 16:25

"No wonder 40 weeks hasn't responded further"

LOL! But she has! Repeatedly! Each time saying "no, I wasn't unreasonable because of X Y and Z"

Summerbird73 · 13/04/2011 16:26
Hmm

thats all

marmaladetwatkins · 13/04/2011 16:26

I was all prepared to stick my neck on the block and say YWNBU until...

"They could have asked the wait staff to hold their meal for 10/20 til we had gone or gone to a restaurant next door, or to a pub for a quick drink and come back"

Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

TandB · 13/04/2011 16:26

Dear Kidks
The OP has responded further. Several times.
Yours sincerely
Kungfupannda

JimmyChooChoo · 13/04/2011 16:26

Bless you kidksSmile

violethill · 13/04/2011 16:26

PMSL mosschops!

I'm just hoping the OP doesn't live near me, cos I don't want to be the poor sod teaching her kids. She'll be the nightmare parent who thinks her children are born geniuses and won't accept that they ever put a foot wrong! Grin

crunchbag · 13/04/2011 16:26

Diggs so what would you have told the people who complained?

The restaurant received a complaint and the manageress followed it up.

springlambkin · 13/04/2011 16:26

kidks, people will try and tell you that it's only like this in AIBU - but the same posters do post in other places, and this is what they're really like. So run for your life!

bemybebe · 13/04/2011 16:28

Evilclown Unbelievable! Shock

JimmyChooChoo · 13/04/2011 16:29

So why are you hear then springlambkin?I mean if it's really that badConfused

springlambkin · 13/04/2011 16:30

Because I can handle it jimmychoochoo Grin

Littlefish · 13/04/2011 16:35

kidks - if you're new to mumsnet, can I suggest that you read a few more threads in "Am I being Unreasonable", and other areas before you pass judgement. This topic is well known for its, shall we say, forthright views.

It is also bloody annoying with the OP asks for opinions, and on being given them by a huge majority, continues to assert that their view is correct. It really really pisses people off!

Littlefish-just had a little nose at your profile.Wow those cakes!Did you make them?
Also agree with you.You shouldn't come on AIBU if you already think you're in the right. What are they hoping to gain?
