MmeSurvivedLent · 11/04/2011 18:08

Did we always have a Pedants' Charter Accessibility Charter? I noticed it the other day.

hairylights · 11/04/2011 18:09

Yanbu.

working9while5 · 11/04/2011 18:40

YABU. It's dialect.

BeaMoaning · 11/04/2011 18:42

I got told off for saying "going on the garden" instead on in.
Just a Yorkshire thing I think.

BarbaraBar · 11/04/2011 18:43

"I am led in bed"

stapledmythumb · 11/04/2011 18:48

YANBU

A pet hate of mine

EasterChickAndRabbitKurri · 11/04/2011 18:51

I am sat here in my maxi dress, swaying my heavy thighs from side to side.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 11/04/2011 18:51

YY I hate it when people say that! I had a friend from Bristol who used to say "I/he/she was sat" grrrr! I'm such a pedant I can't even deal with Pedants' Corner as discussion tends to wind me up if other people who claim to be right are obviously wrong

BodyofEeyore my DH is one of those hateful people (although has many redeeming qualities, which is why I decided to marry him anyway Grin ) I was quoted on Talk Roundup shouting at somone on a thread about that

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 11/04/2011 18:54

Amen. I have recently read lots of posts which state "I went to the shops and BROUGHT a great new hat" and similar.

You never BROUGHT a new hat! You BOUGHT one!

jerURSULAmBuffay · 11/04/2011 18:54

Oh Barbara, led in bed makes me seethe! Especially if they go on about something they 'brought' or how many 'texes' they get a month Angry

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 11/04/2011 18:55

"I was sat on the sofa" conjures images of someone being picked up like a doll and sat down by someone else!

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 11/04/2011 18:56

Never heard of led in bed. Do they mean led on?? Led astray? Or that they were dog collared and led around? Grin

gilbonzothesecretpsychoduck · 11/04/2011 19:00

It's definitely, not definately.

Just wanted to get that off my chest.

MmeSurvivedLent · 11/04/2011 19:01

What is "led in bed"?

cryhavoc · 11/04/2011 19:02

Brilliant.

If an OP is full of bad grammar and littered with redundant apostrophes and exclamation marks I automatically disagree with the poster. More often than not I don't even open the thread.

oldpedant · 11/04/2011 19:12

YANBU, and I agree with cryhavoc. Would it be too pedantic to mention the nightmare that is there/their/they're?

trumpton · 11/04/2011 19:20

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets. I did . I did . I brought a new hat.........I brought it home after i bought it. So there ! Grin

An' he went an' I went and then he went an' did an' I sez ..... Grrrrr !!

trumpton · 11/04/2011 19:22

An' he went, an' I went ,and then he went an' did ,an' I sez ..... Grrrrr !!

Is it better wiv punch-u-at-shun ?

FlaminGreatGallah · 11/04/2011 19:22

YANBU. I find it terribly difficult to sympathise when an OP says they are "sat crying" in the thread title.

Reminds me of my brief time on BabyWorld

And yes, I know IABVVU to have been banned from visited that forum.

MmeSurvivedLent · 11/04/2011 19:25

Trumpton
I hate the "and I turned and said, and then she turned and said, and I went...."

kitbit · 11/04/2011 19:26

This one is my pet hate. I never correct dh because I don't want to be a henpecky old harridan but this one makes me hiss "it's SITTING" under my breath. Nearly everyone I know gets it wrong. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

activate · 11/04/2011 19:26

it's not fucking northern colloquialism - it's wrong in the north too

amen MikeRotch amen

GORGEOUSX · 11/04/2011 19:31

Grin I live in pedants' corner and MikeRotch you are correct. Grin

Best wishes,
Fucker Grin

AintMissBeehiving · 11/04/2011 19:36

You can tell it's half term in the Rotch household Grin.

TheCowardlyLion · 11/04/2011 19:41

MikeRotch, I love you. And you, BarbaraBar. I have a friend who is led on the sofa/led in bed and it is only because I love her that I do not punch her. She also text her husband yesterday. Argh! No! You textED him!

And as for the 'I am sat here...', it's not dialect. It's just bloody wrong!
