To be somewhat pissed off to find someone in the back of my car?

Opened my hatchback boot to let dog jump in yesterday morning to find a body in the back of my car. At first I thought it was of the dead variety, but turned out to be a semi conscious (ie pissed) teenage girl who had spent the night in my car.

Confused

She was pissed worraliberty. She wasnt scared. In the least.

But you don't know why this child got pissed and slept in a strangers car...that's the point I'm making.

Plenty of 16yr olds get pissed but they go home.

I'm more concerned as to why this girl felt she couldn't and why she was desperate enough to start trying car door handles at night.

I don't think I'd have reached the exalted state of goodness that would have resulted in me offering to run her home either, to be honest.

follyfoot · 10/04/2011 23:16

Maybe you could come and hang around my garden and I'll point her out if she passes by again? Then you could ask her. I'm sure she'd happily tell you all about her personal life Grin

If you could just make sure she kips in your car next time though, I'd be everso grateful.

isn't 16 old enough to join the army, or get married, or have a baby?

I am inclined to think if lots of posters were to actually find a person in their car, they wouldn't be giving them a lift home.

No one's saying you would have had to drive her home animula - just maybe call someone for her, or check she was ok.

The girl behaved badly, but sleeping in a stranger's car is quite unusual behaviour, and a pissed 16 year old is a vulnerable person imo.

follyfoot · 10/04/2011 23:25

I think you are spot on Nancy. I dont seriously think for a second anyone finding a stranger kipping in their car would be half as concerned about ensuring they get home safely as they are might like to make out.

Most people would be livid. Think I was quite calm with her really.

I would have probably phoned the police to tell them incase you later get accused of abducting her in the car or something?! Not sure if that is ridiculous but I would feel worried about that, if she wanders off drunk again and gets lost she may end up reported missing or something and you will have evidence in your car now dna etc..

NonnoMum · 10/04/2011 23:49

Actually, yes. You say she looked about 16, which means she may have been, say, 14 - 18... And she may have been reported missing. And you may have saved a lot of police time (or mother's/foster carer's heartache) if you phoned them to let them know a stray young female was wending her way home.

In your yoga leotard.

CarnivalBizarre · 11/04/2011 00:29

I have to admit that in my younger years I slept in some very strange places - greenhouses, someones lawn using the washing off their line to keep me warm etc rather than go home and face my folks in a very innebriated state

I never had the ingenuity though to try car door handles to find a safe haven for the night Grin

This actually reminds me of something that happened a few weeks ago to a friend of mine who is the manager of a charity shop - she arrived at work on the Monday morning to find shed loads of donations in binbags in the shop doorway which is recessed. She quite literally had to climb onto the binbags to be able to open the door

She felt something move beneath her feet and moved a binbag to find out what was beneath her and saw a mans distorted face - she totally freaked out and started screaming - thinking there was a body under the bags ....it turned out to be a vagrant who had decided to keep warm and have a kip

Mumcentreplus · 11/04/2011 00:34

I would have given her some breakfast and driven her home.. 'the indignation!'

Mumcentreplus · 11/04/2011 00:34

Of course after telling how dangerous what she did was and I could have been a serial killer etc etc...

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 11/04/2011 00:47

I think people would be concerned because it's very unusual behaviour for such a young girl....my first thought would be that she'd been in some unfortunate situation..and I would have offered her a cup of tea.

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 11/04/2011 00:54

I just feel like I should point out that just because this girl looked 16, that doesn't necessarily mean she actually is. I am very nearly 27 and still have to carry ID because I am very young looking. (Although I don't feel it at all, thanks DD) So all of you thinking this was an underage girl out drinking, you may not be right, it could've been someone like me! :)

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 11/04/2011 00:56

oops major typo's in that! That's what you get for using dictionary.com to correct your spelling!

Morloth · 11/04/2011 01:02

I'm with you OP, I too would have been unconcerned with her welfare and just pissed off.

I think you were very kind to just let her walk away, you could have called the police.

doley · 11/04/2011 01:53

What would one tell the police ,and on what charge would they be held on ?

16 is really young ...looked 16? could have been even younger perhaps ?

I would also have been startled ,but I have to say, the Mum in me would have taken over and I would have asked if she was alright ...someones child right ?Wink

Why was stroking the dog the final straw ...to me that indicates she was alright and a human ?

No ?????

Morloth · 11/04/2011 02:01

Breaking and entering? Trespassing?

Unfortunately being Bloody Stupid is not actually a crime.

doley · 11/04/2011 02:15

No, she was very silly I agree .

But I would handled it differently I suppose .

GColdtimer · 11/04/2011 02:35

I wouldn't have been livid, I would have been concerned that a mother somewhere was probably frantic about her daughter and would have made her call someone. I would havexasked her a few more questions tbh rather than telling her to get walking.

thumbwitch · 11/04/2011 02:37

cheeky mare! Hope she didn't actually throw up in your car. I think I would have probably phoned her parents myself just to drop her in it, but I don't think I'd have driven her home. Broad daylight, easy access to main road and public transport - no. She got herself into trouble, she can get herself out of it as well.

doley · 11/04/2011 03:28

Wow ~thumbwitch just wow :(

How old are your children ?

ninedragons · 11/04/2011 03:50

I am (a) a mother of girls and (b) a complete sucker, so I probably would have taken her home.

allgoodindahood · 11/04/2011 04:00

Hell no would I drive her home! Dyamn cheek. Next you'll be suggesting doing her a fry up and running her a bath! Or maybe a foot massage?
