I live in a town centre. i parked my car outside my house and got out and left the boot and kerbside door open to load up some things from the house.
I went into my house to grab some bags to put in the car and heard my car door slam shut. I went out to see two cyclists go past, one of whom had shut my car door. Quite frankly I thought it was non of their business to shut my car door. Dam cheek, I thought. If that were me i would have just manouvered my bike carefully past the car and its open door.
There was plenty of room to walk past with a bike. . . .Seriously !
I looked at the woman and muttered "What ??" or something to which she answered, "I didnt want my bike to get scratched"
Blooming cheek! ..ggrrhh.

YAB a bit U.

At least she didn't ride her bike into your door and then abuse you for blocking the path.

Loonytoonie · 10/04/2011 21:59

Are you sure she said that she didn't want her bike to scratch your car?

YouaretooniceNOT · 10/04/2011 21:59

Were they cycling on the pavement? Isn't that illegal? for people over a certain age?

MorticiaAddams · 10/04/2011 21:59

YABVU.

Alambil · 10/04/2011 21:59

it's a bit of a non-issue.

I'm sure the door didn't mind and I'm sure the hinges won't fall off with someone else closing the door....

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 10/04/2011 21:59

YABU
would you have complained if she had hit your door with her bike, why are you entitled to more kerb space?

marmaladetwatkins · 10/04/2011 22:00

YABU if your car door was obstructing the public footpath.

colditz · 10/04/2011 22:00

You need a hobby.

ratspeaker · 10/04/2011 22:01

YABU
So basically you blocked the route with your door and are surprised your door was shut?

Theres certain areas where you'd have the contents of the car knicked, the door kicked in etc etc

Loonytoonie · 10/04/2011 22:01

She may have thought she was being careful - had she scratched your car on her way past your car, then you may see things differently OP.

rosie1979 · 10/04/2011 22:01

YAB a little U - in the past I have shut someones car door otherwise I would have had to go in the road with my buggy.

onepieceoflollipop · 10/04/2011 22:02

what time did this happen?
I'm imagining many hours ago?
I think you are a very lucky person tbh, to not have any real worries. :)

StealthyKissBeartrayal · 10/04/2011 22:02

so they were cycling on the pavement?
And I wouldn't be impressed about having my car door shut as that would prob lock the keys in it!

marmaladetwatkins · 10/04/2011 22:03

In fact I have closed car doors myself. I live on a narrowly-paved Victorian street. The width of a car door takes up the width of the pavement. No way am I walking into the road just because some inconsiderate doofus blocked the pathway.

saffy85 · 10/04/2011 22:03

YABU. I've shut someone's car door before when it was blocking the pavement and I couldn't get the buggy past. Not in a passive agressive way or to be difficult, just so I could get past without going into the road. They got arsey too... Hmm

marmaladetwatkins · 10/04/2011 22:04

You CAN cycle on the pavement in various circumstances.

StealthyKissBeartrayal · 10/04/2011 22:04

but these were cyclists - presumably they should ahve been on the road / cycle path

ENormaSnob · 10/04/2011 22:04

Yabu

StealthyKissBeartrayal · 10/04/2011 22:04

oh can you?

FabbyChic · 10/04/2011 22:05

yabu

marmaladetwatkins · 10/04/2011 22:06

Yeah you can. It's all there on the cycling proficiency website... :)

fortyplus · 10/04/2011 22:08

yabu - don't leave your car door open across the pavement. Totally ridiculous. Would be different if you lived in a quiet cul-de-sac but you've said it's a town centre.

MoonGirl1981 · 10/04/2011 22:08

I close car doors to walk past. Or close them a bit and then re-open them when I've past.

No one's ever minded - or a least they've never said.

It's not really on to take up the pavement.
