I live in a town centre. i parked my car outside my house and got out and left the boot and kerbside door open to load up some things from the house.
I went into my house to grab some bags to put in the car and heard my car door slam shut. I went out to see two cyclists go past, one of whom had shut my car door. Quite frankly I thought it was non of their business to shut my car door. Dam cheek, I thought. If that were me i would have just manouvered my bike carefully past the car and its open door.
There was plenty of room to walk past with a bike. . . .Seriously !
I looked at the woman and muttered "What ??" or something to which she answered, "I didnt want my bike to get scratched"
Blooming cheek! ..ggrrhh.

My friends' elderly Mother (82) was waiting at the bus stop the other afternoon. She walked to the other endf of the bus stop to throw some paper in from her pocket, turned around and two groen men in their 40's cycled past and knocked her to the ground. They said sorry we didn't see you as we were talking. They stopped helped her from the ground but hs ewas cut on her legs from the bike chains. The Lady (former Midwife) complained less than you OP. Get a frigging life. Here have my first biscuit Biscuit

YouaretooniceNOT · 11/04/2011 00:09

ihatecbeebies · 11/04/2011 00:35

EricNorthmansMistress · 11/04/2011 07:44

YABU
Get a life!

cazza40 · 11/04/2011 07:56

sparkle12mar08 · 11/04/2011 08:30

Some people really are this stupid! You were blocking a public footpath - grow up and shut your own bloody door next time!

ivykaty44 · 11/04/2011 08:34

There was plenty of room to walk past with a bike. . . .Seriously !
where did OP say these people where cycling on the pavement - I read it that the people where walking along and pushing the bike - did I miss something with all the screams of its illegal to cycle on the pavement?

Bucharest · 11/04/2011 08:35

YABU and so were the cyclists-on-the-pavement. (not for shutting your door, but for being on the pavement)

I don't get this cyclists-can-do-no-wrong thing meself, but there you go.

TheBolter · 11/04/2011 08:40

Oh what a surprise... op hasn't returned.

It's always the most precious princessey types on AIBU who can't bear anyone disagreeing with them.

OP grow a pair and come back and admit you were being a twat. Seriously, you need to get a life and get over yourself. How do you cope with everyday life??!

(LOL at "door shutting bastards" Grin)

ivykaty44 · 11/04/2011 08:45

I am still missing the part where the cyclists where actually riding their bikes along the pavement illegally - possibly I have missed that aprt - could soemone copy and paste it to show me - bucharest show me where it says the cyclists where riding along the pavement and not walking with their bikes?

Bucharest · 11/04/2011 08:47

Hmm Ivykate. I'm not your gopher, look for it yourself.
Actually,it doesn't say it.Nor does it say they were walking.
My point is simply that whilst the OP was not in the right here, I don't get the whole "he's on a bike, therefore he's a saint" thing. (having had dd knocked down on the pavement by a lycra clad knob last summer)

Skifit · 11/04/2011 08:56

I take your point guys.
Can see i did sound a bit precious. . .and yer I do need to get a life. Ds at Dads big kids grown up etc.....partner away Sad
Just thought it a bit cheeky as i wouldnt do this to someone elses car unless I really couldnt get past.
TheBolter....the reason for no post last night was I had other things to do and simply turned off the Mac.!

ivykaty44 · 11/04/2011 13:16

erh yes it does burcharest walk past with a bike
no your not my gopher you just jump to conclusions like a lot of others on here.

My cousin was knocked down by a motorist driving on the pavement, left with over a hundred stiches in her tummy.

Unfotunatley it isn't just cyclists that ride on the pavement motorists are just as stupid and drive on the pavement

rockinhippy · 11/04/2011 13:28

YABVU -

try thinking of others for a change, be it cyclists, disability trike users, blind or some poor Mum struggling with a buggy & small kids Hmm-

Okay the cyclists probably shouldn't be on the pavement - but if its like here, no-one will be Policing that, so they will be there regardless, but the others have every right to use the Pavement for its proper use & thoughtless people like yourself cause accidents & block people using the pavement for what its actually for - so sorry, but YABVU

Ephiny · 11/04/2011 13:52

YABU, you shouldn't have been blocking the footpath, and people shouldn't have had to squeeze or 'manouver' past just because you couldn't be bothered to close your car door.

mayorquimby · 11/04/2011 14:07

far cheekier to leave your door open obstructing the path.

TheBolter · 11/04/2011 14:19

Alright Skifit, and sorry I was a bit harsh Grin. Good for you for coming back.

TheMonster · 11/04/2011 14:25

PunkPixie · 11/04/2011 19:39

YABU Roads are for cars, Pavements are for people.

YouaretooniceNOT · 11/04/2011 19:45

her door was open kerbside ivykaty

YouaretooniceNOT · 11/04/2011 19:46

I live in a town centre. i parked my car outside my house and got out and left the boot and kerbside door open
oh dear ivy

ChairOfTheBored · 11/04/2011 20:09

YABU I would have, and indeed have done the same in similar situations. Pavements are for walking on, and blocking them is v unreasonable indeed.

GotArt · 11/04/2011 20:32
Biscuit

I would have shut it too, but under the pretense that perhaps you went into your house with a load of stuff and didn't get the door completely shut and it swung open again, or something along those lines. I have opened peoples car doors and turned their lights off when I've seen them left on, or at least tried all the doors to see if I could if I weren't in an parking lot where someone could make an announcement about license plate blahblahblah, you left your lights on. But then again, I'm Canadian, and we don't tend to get pissy with our fellow citizens over trivial little matters. We would say, "oh sorry, I opened it to load some stuff into the back seat" and the other person would say, "oh, that's ok, here, let me help you with that."
