I was a size 12 when I got pregnant with DS. I had always been a 14/16 prior to that (it took a lot of work and no food!).

I went up to a 18/20 during third trimester (and put on 3 stone!!) Shock and am still a 16/18 nearly a year later Blush I don't have enough time for massive gym sessions but i do take DS in his backpack for 3-6 mile walks every other day, plus the running around after a toddler! I eat a fairly balanced diet, but i know I could do better.

So ladies...how long did it take you to get back to pre-pregnancy size/shape/weight? and HOW DID YOU DO IT??

Thanks x

DC1 - just a few months
DC2 - when I stopped feeding at 13 months
DC4 - er, will let you know! (he's four and a half! I have temporarily been at my pre preg weight, but only for a matter of days before half a cake has leapt on me and demanded to be eaten)

Shakirasma · 06/04/2011 20:21

I think pregnancy does change the metabolism. I have friends who have never lost the excess weight despite a vey healthy lifestyle. But I eat crap and am slimmer than I ever was before I had 3 kids.

ziggyf · 06/04/2011 20:21

Wow, sounds like you are doing plenty of excercise! 3-6 mile walks every other day will definitely be toning you up and should be helping with the weight loss. What is your diet like?

I don't think i'll ever get there. I'm about 1/2 stone bigger but I don't mind that. Only just managed that before christmas and ds was 3 a few days later.

TotorosOcarina · 06/04/2011 20:22

7 years later and I still haven't.

Mind you I'm on my 4th in that space of time, plus I was 19 when i started so don't think I'll ever get back to that!!

pinkthechaffinch · 06/04/2011 20:23

Aged 24 after having ds- 2 months

Aged 31 after having dd (2 years ago) half a stone heavier than pre-pregnancy but fitting into most of pre-pregnancy clothes.

IWillCountToThree · 06/04/2011 20:24

The only DC i managed to get back to pre preg weight with was DS. He's my 3rd. I think it was because i only gained 12lb during the pregnancy and he was 9lb of it!

Even if i managed to get back to my pre dc weight, i'm still a completely different shape!

trixie123 · 06/04/2011 20:24

weight wise within a few weeks but due to CS I have an overhang bit at the bottom of my tummy which I hate. I had GD during pregnancy so had to be careful about what I ate and didn't put on much. Having said all that, I am a size 14 and not very tall so would like to be generally slimmer anyway.

NettoSuperstar · 06/04/2011 20:24

6-8 weeks.
It just happened, and I forgot to eat, then DP left me when DD was 6 weeks old and I was too miserable to eat.
I'm the same size now, 9 years on, though I do eat!

GnomeDePlume · 06/04/2011 20:25

I seem to have got somebody else's figure back by mistake. Is one of you missing a size 20+ figure? I would gladly give it up and get my size 14 figure back.

Jeeps · 06/04/2011 20:26

Didn't really bother between DCs 1, 2, 3 and 4 as they were all so close together but when DC 4 was 18 months I saw myself in a mirror unexpectedly and was shocked. Joined weight watchers online that day and lost a stone in a month. Also upped the exercise. Have managed to keep that stone off and although I would love to lose a bit more, maybe another half a stone, am not prepared to put the effort in so am settling for maintaining current weight at the mo!

Good luck, but go easy on yourself. Your DS is only a year old!

pinkthechaffinch · 06/04/2011 20:26

How I did it?

really starving myself after ds

not putting myself under any pressure after dd-just ate normally and healthily and it seemd to come away quite naturally over the first year. I noticed my hips going back when she was about 18 months which suddenly meant i could fit into my trousers again although the scales hadn't moved.

SoundTheOctoalert · 06/04/2011 20:29

Has taken me 10 months to get back to pre ds1 weight, went up loads during pregnancy with ds2 having been about a stone over 'normal' between the two. Did it through hard exercise, walking doesn't get my heart rate up enough, so was doing running, spin, zumba or dvds at home three times a week. I also followed Tesco diets online for a few months but was really just calorie counting, 1200 calories doesn't go far and even when i thought I was being healthy I was eating too much. Took me ages cos I'm not v good at sticking to a diet. Oh, I lost just over 2 stone.

budgieshell · 06/04/2011 20:30

I agree with Iwillcounttothree your body will be a different shape so things won't be quite the same. I went from being over weight to really over weight.

yama · 06/04/2011 20:30

I never weigh myself. I just know what size clothes I am.

Pre-dc I worked out to be a size 10. After two dc I am a size 10 but I don't work out. Still b/feeding dc2 though so I may have at some point.

I make sure I go at least one long walk every day and we eat very healthily.

Fleecy · 06/04/2011 20:30

I didn't get it back after DD and was still carrying an extra 1.5 stone when I got pregnant again.

Lost the weight after DS but it took me a while - 8mo to get to my pre-DC weight and another year or so to get toned up and be happy with my figure.

Am now pregnant with DC3 so guess we'll see what happens!

FetchezLaVache · 06/04/2011 20:30

I put on 3 stone when I was pregnant with DS. It took me 7 months to get back to pre-pregnancy weight, but 5 months later I'm still waiting for my pre-pregnancy shape! I suppose I should do a few token sit-ups, really.

AliSheedy · 06/04/2011 20:30

Pre kids I was too skinny. A size 8-10 and weighed 10 stone, but am 6 foot and I looked gaunt.

DC1 - went up to 14 stone and a size 18/20. Dropped 2 stone (to a 16) after 6 months, and was a 11 stone, size 12 and happy-ish with my size after about a year. I had an emergency c-section and was quite ill for months after the birth, so didn't do a stroke of exercise or limit what I ate.

DC2 - I only put on 2 stone, but it took 18 months to shift this time. Must admit, I did very little aerobic exercise, but I did eat a much healthier diet. I'm generally getting heavier, as have ended up 11.5 stone and a size 14, but am pretty OK with that. Wouldn't want to put any more on, though, and as shallow as it sounds, it really puts me off having any more, as I am clearly never going to be one of those 'back in my jeans 2 weeks later' type of gals!

CadleCrap · 06/04/2011 20:30

DD is 13 weeks and I'm 10 lb lighter than I've been for about 10 years.

I have reduced the amount of carbs I eat (bread, potatoes etc) and bought smaller plates!! DH has lost 8lbs in 2 weeks doing this!

Should mention that my stomach never returned to 'normal', despoite doing hardcore pilates and yoga. It is knackered after two sections and one enormous baby.

15 years and counting.......

AbigailS · 06/04/2011 20:33

I didn't! Sad Then middle aged spread set in and my waistline has never been the same no matter how much I diet and exercise.

Lavitabellissima · 06/04/2011 20:34

DT's are now 5 months old and I'm just back to my pre pregnancy weight. Breastfeeding dropped most of it off and I've lost the last 1/2 a stone with shredding, giving up chocolate and making an effort to eat more fruit/veg.
