I was a size 12 when I got pregnant with DS. I had always been a 14/16 prior to that (it took a lot of work and no food!).

I went up to a 18/20 during third trimester (and put on 3 stone!!) Shock and am still a 16/18 nearly a year later Blush I don't have enough time for massive gym sessions but i do take DS in his backpack for 3-6 mile walks every other day, plus the running around after a toddler! I eat a fairly balanced diet, but i know I could do better.

So ladies...how long did it take you to get back to pre-pregnancy size/shape/weight? and HOW DID YOU DO IT??

Thanks x

I was a size 12 before DD1. Still carrying an excess stone when I got pregnant with DD2 a year later.

After DD2 was born I pinged back to my pre DD2 weight within a few weeks and settled exactly where I was when I got pregant with her - i.e. a stone over my pre DD1 weight.

I am still a stone over my pre DD1 weight. Funnily enough, as a teenager I was this size and dieted to a size 10/12. I have put on weight a few times in my life and always settled at this size - a stone over my healthy BMI.

I don't want to make excuses and I accept that I'm overweight, but my body seems to have a natural weight at a stone more than I should be! No matter what I do I don't weight more than that, but it's a constant battle to stay less than that.

On a mission to lose that stone by this summer. We'll see!

Olifin · 06/04/2011 21:25

I think pregnancy and bfing reset my metabolism too. My weight was always between 9.5 and 10 stone pre-pregnancy, a size 10-12. I'm now under 9 stone and a size 6-8.

Having said that, I work hard at it. I did no exercise whatsoever in the 10 years before having DD (other than walking a bit) and I now exercise vigorously 4 or more times a week. I started it really as a way of getting some me-time away from the urchins but obviously it has had great benefits for my health and figure. I don't eat very big portions at meal times either but I do snack a lot.

Soopermum1 · 06/04/2011 22:14

Was back in my pre pregnancy jeans within a couple of weeks, think it was the breast feeding.

However, my pre pregnancy jeans were size 18 Grin

Am a lot thinner now

foreverondiet · 06/04/2011 22:35

I have had to diet each time. Put ON weight when breastfeeding.

But on a diet I can loose roughly half stone a month.

Also go to gym 3x a week....

BTSynergy · 06/04/2011 22:36

I was a size 14 before - was a size 18 afterwards. Didn't do anything until 12 weeks (when I had only dropped 7 lbs from the day I came home) and then followed WW points + extra for Bfing. I was back to a size 14/pre preg weight by 5 months post partum. My pre-preg weight history was fluctuating between a small 12 and a large 14.
Unfortunately since then (6 years) I have been fluctuating between a large 14 and a large 18 so I'm not really there...

AimingForSerenity · 06/04/2011 22:41

foreverondiet You are the only other person I've ever heard of who put on weight while breastfeeding! I am not alone! I did it both times.

I'm still trying to lose my baby weight after 23 years.

FunnysInTheGarden · 06/04/2011 22:49

I was 11 stone and a size 12/14 before I got pregnant with DS1 (6 years ago). I put on LOADS with him and was 14.5 stone after I had had him. Did WW and lost a stone and a bit. Then got pregnant with DS2. Was 13.5 stone all the way through and was 13.1 stone after I had him.

Have been on WW again and am now 12.5 stone and hoping to get back to 11 stone within the year.

So thats a lot of weight to put on and loose, but the only thing that did it for me was doing WW old stylee points.

BTW I put on weight while BF, both times. Tis a crock of shit that you loose weight while BF, and IMO just the BF folk telling you that to keep you BF

RedbinD · 06/04/2011 22:50

The first 30 years were the worst, after that I went into a bit of a decline.

surelynotnormal · 06/04/2011 22:54

I put on a stone b/feeding first time too! Forgot about that!

igetmorelovefromthecat · 06/04/2011 22:56

I've put on 4 stone with both of my dd's.

With DD1 I lost a stone or so really quickly, then another big chunk when she was 7 months and i stopped bf. The last bit trickled off slowly over the next 2 years, until I was finally back to my pre pg weight and shape.

DD2 is 8 months and it seems to be a carbon copy so far, except I am still bf this time so I think I will have to be patient for the next chunk to go.

I don't think bf makes me lose weight, it makes me cling onto it.

Mind you, my weight loss might be a bit more rapid if I actually purposefully didn't eat crap/did some exercise.

tigitigi · 07/04/2011 01:05

took me 2 weeks to get back into old clothes with pg1 and 3 weeks with pg2, I am heavier now than I was 10 years ago by about 2/3 of a stone. I still wear clothes from pre children.

Figure is a different shape though and I have the lovely CS shelf though I could get rid of it if I bothered to exercise.

Don't know how I did it but think it is genes as mother and grandmothers were the same.

NameChange1234 · 07/04/2011 01:33

I put on over 4 stone with DD, and lost it (plus an extra couple of pounds) in a year. Walked for miles each day pushing the buggy and listened to Paul McKenna regularly (bit naff but it worked)

Debbiecakes · 07/04/2011 01:37

well DD is 11 now.................... so maybe by the time she's 21 Smile

Geocentric · 07/04/2011 01:37

Any day now...

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 07/04/2011 04:25

I was at pre-pregnancy weight at 10 days out, and by five months out I was down 5kg (wasn't overweight before, so this took me to near the bottom of the healthy weight range). I put on 10kg during the pregnancy.

At about a year out, I ramped down the breastfeeding and forgot to ramp down the eating, and now I'm 5kg up from pre-pregnancy weight, and overweight for the first time in my life.

I'm hoping that this pregnancy will do the same things but that I will be sensible with the eating. I'm an optimist.

bunnygirl80 · 07/04/2011 04:43

I gained 30kgs while pg Shock DS is just about to turn 5 months and I'm now 2kg less than when I got pg. I think I've been incredibly lucky that the weight has just dropped off with very little effort on my part - I'm just eating the same as I did pre-pg and doing the same amount of exercise (one personal training session a week, netball training and game).

I think BFing has helped as I always had a stubborn bit of fat on my hips that I've never been able to shift that has suddenly disappeared. I imagine it'll come back once he weans although I can live in hope.

I BF exclusively for the first 5 months, so think that had a lot to do with the weight melting off, although I only gained 22lbs with DD1. And BF until DD was 20 months, and contribute the rest to that on top of running. I lost even more, (no drinking meant no empty calories, Grin ) and lost 40 lbs in total in a year, then promptly got pregnant when DD weaned. I've gained back 30 of it so far. Shock Not too happy about that, but have signed up for a half marathon in October, so it will come off fast again, provided I can curtail this insatiable need to stuff cookies down my gullet. Grin

SlightlyB0nkers · 07/04/2011 06:58

I'm going to be hunting out my "skinny" jeans soon. I'm lighter now than I was pre pregnancy. It could be the bf, as 14 months on and dd feeds 4 times a day. Or, it could be that I'm a sahm now and don't eat as much biccies and sweets as I did when I was sitting on my ass working in an office.
I haven't worn those jeans in 8 years and my usual ones are hanging off me. But I am hoping to have more children so this could be very shortlived.

whoamamma · 07/04/2011 08:34

Was lucky and back to size 12 after 5 weeks. However it's piling on now (at 8wks) as I live on creme eggs and mcdonalds and v little exercise. I blame demands of baby but know deep down tis all my fault.

GeekCool · 07/04/2011 08:49

I put on nearly 4 stone when I was pregnant and felt awful. I stopped smoking when pregnant which I reckon gained me two stone through eating plus I had horrible all day nausea and the only thing that helped was to eat.
I ate healthy food (and some not so healthy) but I was so tired so exercise dropped.
Before DC I was a size 10 and around 10-10.5 stone. Now I am 11 stone and it has taken me ages to get here - he is 3.8 now! I'm a comfortable 12 now. Just this morning a top I put on fit which before strangled my arms.
I've recently stopped smoking again but I am at the gym in my lunch hour 5 times a week plus a zumba class. My aim is to reduce my fat percentage and people are starting to comment on my tone now.
It's really quite difficult though and my stomach just doesn't change, I'm seeing a gastric clinic in two weeks due to pain/bloating but I do wonder if my muscles ever knitted back.
