I was a size 12 when I got pregnant with DS. I had always been a 14/16 prior to that (it took a lot of work and no food!).

I went up to a 18/20 during third trimester (and put on 3 stone!!) Shock and am still a 16/18 nearly a year later Blush I don't have enough time for massive gym sessions but i do take DS in his backpack for 3-6 mile walks every other day, plus the running around after a toddler! I eat a fairly balanced diet, but i know I could do better.

So ladies...how long did it take you to get back to pre-pregnancy size/shape/weight? and HOW DID YOU DO IT??

Thanks x

6yrs on & 2 kids, both 8lbs+, I have finally come to the conclusion that my body shape has changed forever. I have joined a gym and changed my diet, and even though the results havent been as quick as I hoped, I have more energy than ever, and sleeping much better. I have gone from a very tight 16/18, to 14 since Xmas, with the next aim to be a 12 this time year. OP there isnt a race, it looks like you have a healthy lifestyle, it will happen.

Ha ha LeQueen - My Mum told me after dc1 to "please stop losing weight, I'm worried about you." I wasn't too thin and I wasn't exercising.

ExBanker · 06/04/2011 20:36

dd is nineteen weeks and i'm a half stone lighter than i was before. She is ebf and eats like a horse though. My shape is totally different so none of my clothes fit.

QueenBathsheba · 06/04/2011 20:37

I second what Shakirasma has to say about matabolism. I put on three stone with DS1 but within 6 months I was a stone lighter than I had been before concieving.

Before DS I had only to look at food, now I can eat anything and everything.

By the time he was a year old I was 2 stone lighter! I ate like a horse. I had to put on weight before I could concieve DS2.

I put on less weight with DS2 and it fell off even quicker.

I think pregnancy seems to reset your metabolism, although I read once that thinner people often over estimate how much they eat because they regularly have days where they eat virtually nothing. So I wonder if it is possible to fool your body into speeding up your metabolic rate.

I feel better and worse

Ziggyf i have special K for breakfast, pitta bread and salad, with either tuna, ham or houmous for lunch. Dinners vary, some options: chicken breast w. salad/veg, baked potato: ham, couscous and salad: pork chop (no fat!) with veg and new potatoes: pasta with chicken and spicy tomato sauce with salad, or with chicken and a cheesy cream sauce and brocolli.

I don't tend to snack during the day, I do drink lots of water and about 4 cups of tea a day (but i don't take sugar so not too bad)

My main weight is aroung my stomach, arms, back, hips and waist. As i say I put on over 3 stone and DS only weighed 6lb 3oz Sad

Within weeks - I was ebf and the weight just fell off, my DH was trying to feed me up cos i looked too skinny. Could eat what i liked. sadly put it all back on and more when she weaned.

MsScarlettInTheLibrary · 06/04/2011 20:41

Back in my size 10 jeans the next day. Though that's misleading, because I was never out of my (non-maternity) jeans.

Put on a couple of stone since though Grin

madamedeluca · 06/04/2011 20:42

Er still haven't, she's three. Have joined weight watchers online and lost a pound so far (one week). Have a lot to lose.

Took about 5 months and I was same shape and weight as before. I exercised quite a lot during pregnancy and then started gentle pilates straight away after birth, and gym 3 weeks later. Ate what I wanted and bf did the rest. Since I stopped bf I put a few pounds on. I found when I was a bit more careful with my portion size and the amount ofcarbs I ate, plus maintained plenty of exercise then I dropped the pounds again. Was a 12 before j had her 4 years ago- am a 10 now.

Happylander · 06/04/2011 20:46

Heavier now than when I was pregnant Shock

Immediately but wasn't slim to begin with (muscular 12-14) and only put on a stone during pregnancy. I also exercised right up to the birth. I suspect this is just my natural size and it takes radical lifestyle change to make me slimmer or fatter.

theanimalswentintwobytwo · 06/04/2011 20:50

the general concensus seems to be the BF or EBF. i couldn't BF DS so maybe thats the problem.
Even with Ante-ND, PND and CD i haven't lost the need to eat.

Do any of the Diet clubs actually work??

AtYourCervix · 06/04/2011 20:56

i also managed to put on a couple of stone while exclusively breastfeeding ravenous large babies.

so unfair

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 06/04/2011 20:59

22 years and counting.

Notinmykitchen · 06/04/2011 21:00

Ididn't put on a huge amount while pregnant, about half a stone, but it didn't want to shift. Got flu last December, DS is 3.6, and lost half a stone, then ran a marathon last month, and has toned everything up again, feel like I almost have my old body back, but not sure my stomach will ever quite be what it used to be!

Jeeps · 06/04/2011 21:01

Yes, weight watchers works!

theanimalswentintwobytwo · 06/04/2011 21:02

AtYourCervix You are so right. It is really unfair. I had worked so hard for my size 12, but I do not have the energy to do it again.

Thanks Jeeps I'll take a look x

dd1 4 months I was 13 stone just before I had her, walked a lot with the pram about 2 miles a day.
dd2 two weeks and I was in my jeans, I never put any extra weight on whilst pg with dd2, though I was 12.7 stone just before I had her.

TigerFeet · 06/04/2011 21:06

dd2 is 18 months old and I am bigger now than I was when she was born, I had hyperemesis though an dlost loads of weight whilst pg

I never lost the weight I put on with dd1

Just started trying to sort it now
