Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tired mum, Elmo and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

Welcome back tea Smile Did you have a nice holiday ?

gomummygo · 19/04/2011 12:55

Yes Tea, welcome back, and how was your trip?

DS is coming along I think Elmo, thanks for asking. I guess it is a slow road to recovery, there are lots of ups and downs.

Cheerful I had never heard it actually labelled a disorder before. Hmm It is hard for me to imagine - after all we went through TTC, we so desperately just wanted a healthy baby. Though I would confess that after the tremendous challenges some acquaintances have had lately with their three teenage girls, we are a bit relieved DS is a boy some days! Blush No doubt he will have his own set of challenges in store for us, but it scares me how difficult things are for them right now. Wonder sometimes how they manage!

CheerfulYank · 19/04/2011 12:57

Oh of course tea ! I understand the feeling behind it totally. I just mean in cases like the one I was reading where a couple became pregnant with twin boys through IVF. They chose not to continue the pregnancy because they wanted a girl. :( It seems a bit scary IMO. But! Anyway, moving on :)

Glad you're back! Were PIL annoying or did they "behave" mostly? :o I was thinking of you and hoping everything was going all right.

It's not so much that DH doesn't understand really, although I think he doesn't. It's his reasoning that's driving me crazy! Arrgh!

Is DS still on the mend gomummy ?

Have a lovely day everyone! :) Sorry my posts lately have been so grouchy-sounding...perhaps I'll change my name to WhinyYank. Blush

gomummygo · 19/04/2011 23:35

Still up and down Cheerful, more tests today and tomorrow. Though we may not be able to make it for tomorrow's appointment as we are supposed to get 20cm of snow overnight. No that was not a typo. 20cm. (Think that's about 9" Cheerful?) Miserable white fluff. Ugh.

Well I must go and rescue my poor cat. DS is currently installing rabbit ears on her and she is looking at me as if to say "What did I ever do to you?" Grin

Tiredmumno1 · 20/04/2011 17:47

Grin the poor cat gomummy lol, Shock at the snow still, its warm here

Well still unpacking and trying to sort things out

Was Angry yesterday some idiot was speeding round the roundabout, lost control, the back end swung out and hit the front part of our car, and then drove off Angry
Welcome back tea

Tiredmumno1 · 20/04/2011 17:50
CheerfulYank · 20/04/2011 18:58

Sigh...more snow here too. Just a dusting though!

CheerfulYank · 20/04/2011 18:59

Glad you're ok tiredmum !!!!!

gomummygo · 20/04/2011 22:54

Angry for you Tiredmum, irresponsible drivers make me so mad! Hope you are all alright! Are you feeling settled in the new place yet?

More than a dusting here Cheerful, schools all closed, weather warnings to stay off the roads and everything. Miserable stuff to see snowplows on the roads nearing the end of April.

So I have a sort of survey question for you lovely ladies. How do you all explain the Easter paraphernalia to your DCs? I mean, it's easy to tell the (Biblical) story of Easter, but how on earth do you answer "So then where was the bunny, mummy?" and "Then where do the eggs come from? Bunnies have baby bunnies, not eggs, mummy. Some snakes have eggs, is there a snake at Easter?" Help? My parents didn't do the bunny/egg thing with us so I am at a loss!

CheerfulYank · 20/04/2011 23:08

Well, we're religious so we talk about new life in Jesus and spring, bunnies, eggs, etc all being symbols of new life. :)

Ugh at all your snow!

CheerfulYank · 21/04/2011 04:14

Have I threadkilled with talk of Jesus?

Teaandcakeplease · 21/04/2011 07:54

Never. I go to church Cheerful as you know. The time away with the out laws was tricky. MIL was hardwork.

Having some ishoos with the Ex H since I returned that I've written about on the dumpling no more thread. I feel like everything has changed tbh. Like the dynamics have changed Sad

candleshoe · 21/04/2011 08:29

Gomummy - I am not especially religious, but the DCs go to a church school as did I, so I explain about Easter customs being a historical and cultural mix resulting from the combination and pagan and Christian traditions. I also say that the 'Easter Bunny' is an entirely fictitious character which has seeped into our culture from The U.S.A. (Don't know why I object to the Easter Bunny - I think, like all the fuss here now over Halloween, it really wasn't prevalent when DH and I were kids so we don't really feel it is truly traditional or culturally valid.)
Anyway - Happy Maundy Thursday to one and all! Smile

gomummygo · 21/04/2011 13:15

Of course not Cheerful! :)

And I love your idea about new life being a thread that could tie together the story of Easter (which, for us, is the Christian story) with all of the bunny/egg stuff.

Thanks Candle (And Happy Maundy Thursday back at ya!), does that mean that you don't do the whole bunny hiding eggs thing? Or is that not done over there at all?

Went and read your update on other thread Tea, fwiw I agree with you/don't think YABU at all. What a welcome back though, when you must have already been a bit emotionally exhausted from a trip to ILs! Think you've hit it on the head with gf grasping at straws to save their relationship. Says a lot about her if he wants her to see less of his DCs too.

valiumredhead · 21/04/2011 17:19

Hello benchers :)

we've had a nice afternoon with the garden hose, and lawn fountain sprayer thingy Grin

Ds has just said he's had enough fun now and is crashed out on the sofa watching telly! Grin

Hope everyone is having a nice Easter break? x

candleshoe · 22/04/2011 10:29

'lawn fountain sprayer thingy' - I love those - we had one when I was a kid.

valiumredhead · 22/04/2011 10:52

They are good fun candle Grin

I am meant to be visiting family today in London - but our train has been cancelled - hope the next one is running on time 'sigh'...............

gomummygo · 22/04/2011 12:41

[busmile]

elmofan · 22/04/2011 12:48

Hello Smile

tea sorry you are having problems with ExH Sad [hugs] Have you sorted things out with him now ?

{rant alert} Blush

How is everyone ? I am starting to go stir crazy here , ds has been sick with high temperature since Wednesday & woke up this morning covered in Spots
He has now caught the chicken pox from DD . DD still has Spots but they are starting to clear up finally (it's been 2 weeks) . I have had to Cancel all of our plans to go out for Dinner on Sunday [sigh]

hope you get to London on time valium* and the lawn fountain sprayer sounds like fun Grin

elmofan · 22/04/2011 12:50

Oh Gomummy i didn't see those [bugrin]

Happy Easter to you all xxx

CheerfulYank · 22/04/2011 15:42

Oh yuck Elmo , hope the DCs feel better soon. :(

I love sprinklers! (That's what we call lawn sprayer thingies :) I think we are going to get pool this year, though right now I can't imagine it being warm enough for such things. We needed mittens yesterday! Hmm

Tea I'm sorry things are not going well. I can jump him up a couple spots on the Slap List if you like. :( I will read your post on the other thread after I get DS some breakfast.

Hope you get there Valium ! Good luck!

How is DS gomummy ? Had to giggle at his snake/Easter connection; sounds like something my DS would say! :)

Hi Candle !

Happy Good Friday everyone :)

CheerfulYank · 22/04/2011 15:43

And hi to Tiredmum if she's about :) Have a great Easter in your new house!

gomummygo · 22/04/2011 18:43

Happy Good Friday all!

Ugh Elmo, sorry to hear about more chicken pox in your house! :( Too bad about Easter plans too. Hope DS is feeling better soon.

Envy Valium, we are still covered in snow. Lots of sprinklers here, but we won't be needing them out for another couple of months anyway!

Yes Cheerful, it's kind of cute to watch the way they apply logic to things like that, isn't it? I try to give him reasonable explanations for all of his questions, but some things (ie. tying the story of Easter to bunnies and eggs) just stump me!

Hello Candle & Tiredmum, what you you up to for Easter?

I am cooking up a storm here, DS is slowly improving, things are coming along. Today is not a holiday here (we only get Monday) - is it a statutory holiday elsewhere?

gomummygo · 22/04/2011 18:44

"What are you up to..." Blush

gomummygo · 22/04/2011 18:45

[buenvy] Oooh, I have bunny envy!

Sorry, just had to do that. Grin
