Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tired mum, Elmo and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

The floors are done now except that we still have to varnish them. It took forever , lots of work with a scraper and a heat gun and a grinder, but now the original floorboards are bare! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! :o

Oooh, fun questions! :)

  1. Whats your shoe size? 8.5...is it the same in the UK? I have big feet! :)
  1. Your favourite football team? We don't have football here...well, American football but I don't follow it much. We do have a soccer team but it's not a big deal. My favorite teams are the Twins (baseball) and the Wild (hockey).
  1. What takeaway do you like best. Hmmm...Chinese is really good. I'll go with that.
  1. Your fav actor Tough one! Right now it's Peter Dinklage because I've been watching Game of Thrones obsessively. :o
  1. Your fav actress I think Meryl Streep is amazing. I also love Jennifer Aniston, but just because I think she'd be fun to hang out with. :)

Unfortunately I can't claim to have a dainty bum, so you have an easy target there. Can't miss. Not that you would anyway with those plates of meat hahahaha

elmofan · 12/07/2011 13:24

Hello Smile

  1. Whats your shoe size? 4 (37) tiny feet
  1. Your favourite football team? None - Don't like football (not into sports)
  1. What takeaway do you like best. Chinese mmmmmmmmmm lovely .
  1. Your fav actor - Vince Vaughn is ok - kinda cute
  1. Your fav actress - Sandra bullock

Gomummy - Dog is still being a PITA but the garden is finished Yippppeeeeeee
Still adding flowers / shrubs etc but it looks well (if i do say so myself Grin )

gomummygo · 12/07/2011 13:31

Curious about your bare floorboards Cheerful - are they wide or thin? How are you planning to finish them? I am such a DIY junkie, but floors are my favourite! Grin

OK, question time!

  1. Whats your shoe size? 6, sometimes 5.5 depending on the shoe, are they the same sizes as UK?
  2. Your favourite football team? Same boat as Cheerful - we do have football, but what we call soccer is what you call football. Not really into football, and soccer not a big thing, so I don't even know enough to have a favourite team! Blush Mostly hockey and baseball here.
  3. What takeaway do you like best? Well I am too far out in the sticks to have access to any takeaway, but when I used to travel for work I'd order in the hotel room at least twice a day, does that count? Grin That'd be Thai when possible and chinese when not.
  4. Your fav actor? Ugh, I am so bad at these, I'm always saying "You know...that guy...from that show....!" Like Bruce Willis though.
  5. Your fav actress? Sandra Bullock. She rocks.
DorothyGherkins · 12/07/2011 13:39

Have I got the biggest feet on here? Size tens! Please can I do some knitting on this nice quiet bench.

CheerfulYank · 12/07/2011 14:33

Of course you may! I love knitted stuff; wish I could do it. Welcome!

We're just going to put a sealant type stuff on it, Gomummy. There are pics on fb. :o

Can't write too much...DS got a bad sunburn and is exhausted and really upset. I feel so bad for not being more diligent with the sunscreen. :( Do any of you have any good remedies for the burn? It seems quite painful. :(

:o at your cheeky phone Tiredmum.

elmofan · 12/07/2011 14:41

Oh no cheerful - sun burn is nasty poor thing .

Found this on a website -
[[Toddler sunburn treatment

As mentioned above, if the sunburn is mild, you can treat it at home by giving your child a bath in cool water. Pat your child dry, don't rub. Do not place ice cubes or cold compresses on the burns as these aren't effective. You can, however, wipe the child with a wet cloth. Do not use oils or petroleum based gels. If you have an Aloe Vera gel apply that to the burnt area, else use extremely liquid moisturizers on the toddler. Dress him up in loose and airy cotton clothes. Don't let your child be out in the sun until the burn is cured. Ideally, a mild burn is cured in 2 to 5 days.

If your child has a second degree burn, speak to the doctor about it. Most likely you will have to do all of the above, but if the skin is really burnt and there are possible blisters, then the doctor will prescribe medication for it. Second degree burns take about two weeks to cure. In this case too, the child should not be exposed to the sun until completely cure.

You might find that your child's burn is peeling. Don't be alarmed as this is a natural process of healing. Also, in case of blister, don't try to press them open as this might cause further infection.

Sunburns aren't a pretty sight and it is rather painful for the toddler, but this doesn't mean you have to give up on the idea of a day out in the sun. You only need to have plenty of UV protection for yourself and your baby.

HTH xx

elmofan · 12/07/2011 14:43

Oh and get lots of fluids into him . Don't feel bad lovely , it happens xx {hugs}

valiumredhead · 12/07/2011 17:12
  1. Whats your shoe size? - 7 uk size
  1. Your favourite football team? - don't like football
  1. What takeaway do you like best - Indian
  1. Your fav actor - Tom Hardy atm as he looks like my dh and it makes me laugh!
  1. Your fav actress -Meryl Streep

Yanky cool showers and pat dry, LOTS to drink, if it's blistering then peel a cucumber and hold the inside bit of the peel against the burn. If you have an Aloe Vera plant, break a bit and smooth the gooey inside liquid onto it. I would avoid over the counter after sun tbh. But most importantly LOTS of fluids!

CheerfulYank · 12/07/2011 18:23

I will try those, thanks! He seems a bit more chipper now so that's good. A few friends on facebook SWEAR by vinegar for the sting so I might give that a go.

I forgot about Sandra Bullock, I love her too, and think she is better than she is given credit for.

gomummygo · 12/07/2011 18:27

Another vote for aloe vera plant goo if you have one Cheerful. Our local pharmacy also sells a store-brand vitamin E clear gel (very thin) that I've found to be very cooling/soothing. Tylenol if he's in pain and lots to drink. Light/soft cotton clothes.

And don't be too hard on yourself over it Cheerful. I am perpetually covered in SPF50, UV shirts and giant hats, but I still manage to burn sometimes. The sun seems so much stronger these days!

gomummygo · 12/07/2011 18:31

X-post Cheerful. My ex-in-laws used to do that vinegar on a brown paper bag thing. I never thought it worked, but hey, anything's worth a shot!

Glad to hear he's perking up a bit. :)

gomummygo · 13/07/2011 18:17

OMG

Teaandcakeplease · 13/07/2011 19:59

Ouch! Grin and I thought mine were big babies!

Anyone else struggling with the "i'm on" function not working on mumsnet tonight?

OP posts:
gomummygo · 13/07/2011 20:44

Yes "I'm on" is not working for me either, Tea. A couple of other things weren't working correctly either, got a message about an upgrade or something at one point.

How big were yours, Tea? DS was born early and was already over 7lbs, he'd have been big if he spent the last month in there! :)

Tiredmumno1 · 13/07/2011 21:33

evening all

hope ds is ok now cheerful?

hope you are all well, dh has a meeting set up with the school in the morning, although it'll probably be the same crap as before, on a good note both the boys camefirst in their sports day races so they were really happy Smile

dh did see the mum of the girl and introduced himself, she reckons she knows nothing about it including the scissor incident, no offer to pay for a new jumper, she just said well i am never there Hmm and go via the school Shock thats what we have been doing for 3 years stupid woman, but he said to her it stops and it stops today, he was nice and polite about it, however it worries me about the attitude of her she really was not bothered that her precious child has been making my kids life hell, ds said she passed him a note in class today saying i am sad, huh how does she think he feels, plus its her little sad routine before starting again, but we will fight on Smile
