valiumredhead · 08/06/2011 18:27

Oh bother my post disappeared!

I'll try again! :)

gomummy I use the slow cooker in hot weather to save putting the oven on, I do a big gammon in it then we have a nice salad to go with it. Or I make butter beans,or do a whole chicken.

elmo feeling better? Did you get an appt with the GP?

CheerfulYank · 08/06/2011 18:50

What's gammon? I like to use my slow cooker too, or lots of times we just have sandwiches, veggies and dip, cold pasta salad, fruit and cheese kabobs, that kind of thing. :)

It's lovely here today, only about...um...23 or so your temp? It feels almost chilly after the heat we've had, but so nice and cool. Still sunny though! DS keeps asking me to go practice T-ball in the backyard with him because he has his first practice today and "I have to win!" Ohhhh dear...

How are you feeling Elmo ?

elmofan · 08/06/2011 18:51

Hi everyone Smile

How are you and ds feeling Gomummy ? sorry to hear you both are sick too Sad I got three beautiful lilly plants this morning Smile White , Red and Pink .

valium I did get an emergency appointment as my breathing had become very bad , it was all a bit of a panic . My GP was fantastic he gave me an emergency steroid drug through an
Nebulizer (i had to sign a consent form for this Confused ) and made me lie down in the nurses room for 25 minutes with the mask on and he rang dh who was waiting in the car park to come up and collect dd and ds for me ( i had them with me as they have been a little bit wheezy so i wanted to get them checked out while i was there) Doctor played outside with dd and ds until dh got there . poor ds looked so worried and didn't want to leave me Sad
I have a chest and lung infection and I've been put on 8 steroid tablets a day and antibiotics and two new steroid inhalers and I've to go back in four weeks for a check up . I could not sleep a wink last night I'd swear it was because of all the steroids , i got up and cleaned out the two bathrooms at 3am this morning Blush Grin
How is your ds feeling ?

elmofan · 08/06/2011 18:53

On the mend thanks cheerful Smile

LOl at your Ds Grin

CheerfulYank · 08/06/2011 18:54

Oh and I hope you and DS are doing well gomummy ! :)

gomummygo · 08/06/2011 20:25

Well, we have an "extreme heat warning" here today, it is +43 with humidex. SO Envy of anyone with central air! Even the veggies I've picked from the garden for salad are hot! The cool dinner ideas are even more appreciated now...I hadn't even thought of the slow cooker, hardly ever use it these days! Yes, Valium, what is gammon? Did your fruit and cheese kabobs for lunch Cheerful, DS thought it was great, and I'm so glad he ate something! :)

Glad to hear you're on the mend Elmo, sounds as though it was quite bad. We are going to have to go sit at the hospital all day tomorrow to get some antibiotics - always challenging with a toddler in a waiting room all day. Your lilies sound lovely. I have no white and have always wanted some, think they would be so nice and crisp!

CheerfulYank · 08/06/2011 20:29

I think I'm going to do a cold pasta salad for dinner tonight...just chilled noodles, veggies, beans, and cheese cubes with a vinegrette. (Why can't I seem to spell that word?!)

I know gomummy , I would love central air!!!! I looked up how much it would cost though and it's just not going to happen anytime soon. If we had the ducts in place it would be cheaper but our house is heated with radiators so we don't. Ah well...another summer of fans, ice pops, and hovering around our little window air conditioners. :)

elmofan · 08/06/2011 21:37

Gammon is Ham Smile www.accessentertainment.co.uk/Eatingin/Recipes/Gammonjoint.htm

Here's a site with tips on how to cook gammon .

Oh gomuumy Sad at the thoughts of you having to wait for hours at a hospital for medication when your not well yourself .[hugs]

gomummygo · 08/06/2011 22:51

We're in the same boat Cheerful, no ducts for central air and no place to put them. LOL @ "hovering around window air conditioners"...can you actually see me right now? Grin

Thanks for the translation Elmo, never heard ham called gammon before! Blush Have never put a ham in my slow cooker though, and we eat ham quite often. Great idea, thanks Valium!

Thanks for the hugs Elmo, much needed today!

CheerfulYank · 09/06/2011 01:02

GRRRRR! Thanks for your words of support here Elmo . :)

valiumredhead · 09/06/2011 07:56

Oh elmo!! Thank goodness you went to the doctor's!!!! Hope you are feeling better very soon x

Go pour boiling water over gammon/ham to get rid of excess saltiness, then put an inch of boiling water in the bottom on the slow cooker and cook the gammon for about 5 hours - you might have to adjust it depending on your sc. I do the same with a whole chicken too minus pouring boiling water over it first.

gomummygo · 09/06/2011 18:51

Thanks Valium, have never poured boiling water over a ham either! I always use pineapple juice, will have to try that.

Aww Cheerful, sorry to hear about the paint accident. I'd be in tears too. DS has one of those roadmap carpets in his room that he loves and it was quite inexpensive through a local building supply place, maybe something like that to cover?

Hope the antibiotics have kicked in a bit and you're feeling somewhat better today Elmo!

valiumredhead · 10/06/2011 09:40

If I boil gammon on the hob, I bring it up to the boil them chuck the first lot of water away to get rid of the 'scum' and then boil again using fresh water. Pouring water over it before cooking it in the SC is just a speedy way of doing it Grin

How is everyone today? :)

CheerfulYank · 10/06/2011 15:11

Good good. It's a little after 9 a.m. here and I'm trying to force myself into the shower. I said that I'd take DS and a few of his friends to the playground and told their mom I'd be there by ten to pick them up, so I'd better get to it! :)

I have a lot of cleaning to do here today. My best friends are coming over tomorrow (for a sleepover :) ) and we're going to have a barbecue and paint my bedroom before going to a movie. I'm a bit nervous as to how the bedroom's going to come out since I'm sure we'll have had a few Wine by that time! :o

What is everyone else doing this weekend?

valiumredhead · 10/06/2011 18:23

Oh that sounds like a fun weekend yanky Grin

I am going to the market tomorrow to buy lots of bedding plants for the borders of our garden, then in the afternoon it's an open day at ds's tennis club.

Sunday - relaxing, homework and gardening!

Tiredmumno1 · 10/06/2011 19:25

Wow sounds like you 2 have a busy weekend ahead of you Smile

How are you elmo, sorry to hear you have been ill.

I will mainly resting and hobbling around after nearly breaking my flippin ankle, so i am on crutches at mo.

Hope you ok gomummy, that is so hot

CheerfulYank · 10/06/2011 19:30

Well. No playground this morning as DS vomited, poor little man. :( He is the pukingest child I ever saw, I swear! I was the same when I was young, though, I'd throw up or spike a fever at the drop of a hat. The doctor told my mom that it meant my body was actually very efficient at trying to rid itself of germs. :o DS seems all right now but a bit pale. He keeps wanting to eat everything in sight and I'm trying to get him to slow it down.

Tiredmum so sorry you're hurt, how did that happen? Feel better soon!

Gomummy is it still hot there? It's cooled right off here...17 degrees your temp yesterday and can't be much warmer
today.

Have fun picking plants Valium !

How are the antibiotics treating you Elmo ?

gomummygo · 10/06/2011 22:54

Aww poor DS Cheerful, has he caught a bug or something? It has cooled right off here now, only 21 atm.

Big local celebrations this weekend, we're doing some volunteering at it, then will probably take DS to some of the children's events if he and I are feeling up to it by then.

Tiredmum - crutches? What happened? Hope you are ok!

Enjoy the planting Valium! Sounds like fun! :)

How are you today Elmo?

ihatecbeebies · 10/06/2011 22:58
