Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tired mum, Elmo and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Happy Mothers Day to Gomummy & Cheerful {hopes its today} Smile

Teaandcakeplease · 08/05/2011 18:49

Happy mothers day to my lovely friends across the pond.

I've uploaded a few photos on fb of the lovely wall paper I'm removing inch by inch. I'm using wall paper stripping solution and doing it about the same as you GoMummy with your secret solution Wink It's just wearing as it is taking me sooooooooooo long to do.

gomummygo · 08/05/2011 21:37

Hello Aldi! :)

Thanks Elmo and Tea!

Hope the wallpaper stripping solution is working for you Tea, it never worked for me and I secretly thought they just put smellly water in the bottle Grin. Such a big job but I bet it will be worth it when you're done!

Happy Mother's Day Cheerful!

Teaandcakeplease · 08/05/2011 22:15

It's interesting that you secret recipe uses fabric softner. Did you invent it yourself?

Off to bed now. I'm making sure that every night my bed is available for me to sleep in. I could kip on the sofa next door but I need a good nights sleep or I'm mega grouchy Grin

Grin Tea, not a secret I'm afraid, I read it in three different "frugality" type books before I was willing to give it a shot! My first house was covered in this indescribably horrible wallpaper and I was far too broke to rent a steamer. I had no success with wallpaper stripper and was to the point of peeling it off in little bits with my fingernails and a scraper every night after work, so figured it was worth a shot. Been using it since. Had one room in this house that it didn't work on for some reason though, must be different types of glue over the years I guess.

Hope you get a good night's sleep! :)

CheerfulYank · 09/05/2011 02:42

I've used one of these before and it's been helpful. Will definitely be making a note of that "secret" recipe gomummy ! I'm stripping my own bedroom soon. Luckily it's just a wallpaper border though.

Happy mother's day gomummy :)

DS is not going to bed well so I have to go have a chat with him. Grrr!

All our birthdays are coming up! YAY! Mine's the 17th. :)

Hello aldi ! Aldi and vodka...my kind of lady! :o

aldiwhore · 09/05/2011 07:11

Ooooh Happy Birthdays all round then chin chin (and mothers day and any other celebrations I can think of) I will probably be on here lamenting my lost youth and fiercly defending my right to pretend I am not suffering any affects of age.

valiumredhead · 09/05/2011 11:29

Hello folks!

Hi aldi :)

tea you probably do this already but do you score the wallpaper first before letting the stripping solution soak in?

gomummygo · 09/05/2011 20:19

Oh dear. Blush Perhaps some of you with children older than DS can tell me that this is not as embarassing as it seems....this morning at the grocery store, I was standing at the cheeses beside another woman who started talking to DS. Their conversation was rather adorable (about what cheeses each of them liked) until he asked her when her baby would be ready to come out. She was not pregnant. Blush Mortified is an understatement.

In his defense, she had a noticable belly bulge that was exacerbated by her empire waist shirt, but still! Blush Blush Blush

I also did a terrible job of explaining to him afterwards why we shouldn't really ask that....he remembered and pointed out that I have asked other people (disclaimer - people who I knew were pregnant!), and also pointed out that a baby is a happy thing, so why would we not ask them when it is coming? AAAAAHHH! I am being outwitted by a toddler!

[feeling like a crappy mummy emoticon]

CheerfulYank · 09/05/2011 21:14

Oh Lord, I am just waiting for the moment DS lets fly with something like that gomummy.

My mother (yes, my mother, a grown woman) has done that twice in the last few years. I have given her strict instructions to never ask again even if the woman in question is obviously in labor and ready to push the baby out then and there. :)

What did she do? Was she pretty casual about it?

Teaandcakeplease · 09/05/2011 22:26

I'm sorry GoMummy but that is rather funny Grin Your little boy is sharp, clever little thing too with his reasoning to you after. LOL DD hasn't done that yet

OP posts:
gomummygo · 10/05/2011 00:22

She was really very nice about it, something like "oh, there's nothing in there but too much chocolate cake, I'm afraid!" but she quickly moved away from us and I'm embarrassed to admit that I sort of stood there with an apologetic look on my face not knowing what to say! :( Blush I am normally good with quick responses to things but I could not believe he had said that and I felt so mortified, ugh....since then I've felt even worse that I didn't apologize or something, she was so kind for not making it even more uncomfortable!

Plus I have completely failed and taught DS nothing, I couldn't really argue with any of his points, and now am afraid he will do it again!

Your poor mum Cheerful! Like your guidelines for her! :)

Oh and can I just say I was really hoping one of you ladies would come on here and say "Oh my DC said much worse....etc..."!!!

aldiwhore · 10/05/2011 08:26

Aw Gomummygo that's happened to me too... only it was ME who was being asked by one of my son's friends!!!!! Yes I nearly died of embarrassment and a bit of shame, and yes, I had a little sob to myself. But meh, it happens, I survived, it was innocent.

Not your fault at all but mortifying all the same!

Apparantly when I was little I would asked my mum questions (loudly) such as 'Why does that man smell so nasty?' or 'Hey Mum! Look at that person's silly walk' - and then mimic them. Blush My poor mum.
