Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tired mum, Elmo and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

We are off school on Friday for the wedding and Monday is the May Day Bank Holiday. So we are off to the seaside for a long weekend as soon as DHs office closes on Thursday pm. Just ironing his shorts etc. now!

My children have to wear red, white and blue tomorrow and there is a picnic lunch in the park. The school children have made bunting and are doing games and trad. country dancing etc. I have to make cakes to sell to parents. Sad (hate baking)

We will watch on tele when we get to theCornish holiday cottage. I love a royal wedding! [cgrin]

elmofan · 27/04/2011 20:31

That all sounds like great fun candle [csmile]
Could you cheat a little on the baking & buy those plain
fairy cakes & ice them yourself like i did once ?

gomummygo · 27/04/2011 21:27

Very sorry for your loss Cheerful. I think it's pretty normal to feel that guilt when someone passes away, like we could have spent more time, no matter how much we did. :( And Adeline is a beautiful name, imo.

Candle I am impressed by all that goes on for the royal wedding, even a holiday from work/school! It all sounds so spirited and patriotic! Would love to hear all the details of what you did after the big day.

Elmo I have to ask something I've always wanted to know on MN and am Blush that I am not sure....what is a fairy cake? Is it what we call a cupcake?

elmofan · 28/04/2011 00:25

Omg cheerful i missed your post about your aunt
i am so sorry for your loss Sad (HUGS to you all)

elmofan · 28/04/2011 00:55

Gomummy - yes fairy cakes are like cupcakes without
the frosting on top. Where they got the name fairy cakes from
(i think) is the top of the bun was sliced off & cut in half down the middle
cream was then put on top of the cake and the two halves of the lid were stuck into
the cream to look like fairy wings Smile
Well thats how my mum used to make them.
Cupcakes are a big thing over here in the last
year or so though Smile

CheerfulYank · 28/04/2011 02:59

Those sound delicious. :)

Thanks for the sympathy. The funeral was lovely. She was 89, and a lot of people loved her. DH and I have decided to take DS to visit his other great-aunt (she's called Lilah-another great name in my opinion :) ) in the nursing home more often.

candleshoe · 28/04/2011 10:09

Isn't that a butterfly cake Elmo? That's what we call them.

Anyway ciao everyone - off on my hols at 5pm tonight! See you Tuesday - have a lovely weekend.

Have a great time Candle, sounds like it will be fun! :)

Cheerful I'm sure you'll delight many people bringing DS to visit his other great-aunt in a nursing home. Have some experience....when anyone's family brings a small child to visit, it is a joy so many of them talk about for days!

Elmo those sound great...DS would think it was great, am going to try it for him. Oddly, he is not at all into sweets, but I could duplicate it with a muffin and he'd be excited!

Welcome Buggerlugs! Have a Brew.

Thinking of you Tiredmum, hope all is well with the new home and sending far-off cuddles for baby Jamie! :)

elmofan · 28/04/2011 17:43

Butterfly cakes makes more sense candle We called them Fairy cakes growing up Blush Grin

cheerful My Nan ( dads mum ) was in a nursing home when my ds was very little & as gomummy says all the residents there used to really fuss over Ds whenever we took him to visit & it really cheered them all up Smile and my Nan would be so proud showing ds off to all her friends .

gomummy my DD loves to stick the cake wings into the cream Smile Have fun making them with your ds .

Welcome buggerlugs Smile

Kate's dress is Beautiful isn't it Smile

gomummygo · 29/04/2011 13:39

LOL, thanks for the link Elmo, needed that!

We've been having a bit of "weather" issues here, storms and high winds dropped massive trees everywhere (including our yard) and have had no electricity/heat/water/etc., since early yesterday (about 30,000 homes without power last I heard, and with our geography that's a fairly massive area). I spent the day dealing with the house issues this causes and getting our backup power set up with DS in tow. Then after being up most of the night with DS, I had just collapsed into my bed when DH comes in to wake me at insane-o-clock so that we can watch a broadcast of the Royal Wedding live!

So, I am in the loop, but exhausted!

Oh Tiredmum, it's so lovely when they start to show their personality isn't it? Is he a relaxed baby, iykwim?

elmofan · 29/04/2011 19:04

Oh no gomummy Sad

Does it usually take long for the electricity company to sort this type of thing out ? You must be sick of all this bad weather , roll on the summer eh .
Is Ds feeling any better ?

tiredmum is Jamie getting big [smile ?

gomummygo · 29/04/2011 23:00

Yes Elmo, the electricty goes out a lot and it can often be days. We've had a few years in the last decade or so where it's been weeks. Before I left work, I made the investment in our own backup generation system, which is quite a lot of effort to get going but so worth it at times like these. It's not big enough to power everything, but keeps us safe and warm at least. It was a big decision for me to put it in (meant I had to stay at my job longer than I'd hoped/planned to), but since we were TTC...when we thought about how we'd cope on the -40 days with no heat/hydro once there was a baby to care for....well, it just had to happen.

DS continues to get a bit better each day, it is a slow road. Today is not a good day, but I think a lot of that is down to tiredness and a cold on top of everything.

How is DS doing with his spots?

gomummygo · 29/04/2011 23:09

Oooh and I have to ask.......

....the HATS! (if they are actually hats? Blush Or rather headpieces or something to that effect?)

Anyway, is that typical of a wedding over there, or is that a Royal wedding thing? I am a hat person, but some of the things on some of the guests heads just blew me away! First thing I thought was "I must ask the bench if this is typical!"

CheerfulYank · 30/04/2011 01:47

Hello, everyone! :) Yes, gomummy , gotta love that faulty electricity. Doesn't happen here as much but when I was growing up in a rural area it happened all the time. We had a box full of candles and board games for such times :)

I loved that hats! So wonderfully ostentatious! The wedding looked like so much fun- I do love any opportunity to stand in the street and holler :o

CheerfulYank · 30/04/2011 01:48

Hello buggerlugs ! :)

elmofan · 30/04/2011 15:19

I bet you are so pleased you have that generator right now gomummy , I hope your electricity gets sorted asap x

Ds is fine thanks Smileback to normal but still covered in spots (especially on his face and he is very self conscious) so i am not sure weather to send him back to school on Tuesday or keep him home until the spots clear up completely which could take another 2 weeks as thats how long it took DD to clear up .
I am worried about giving the bullies in his class more reasons to jeer him iykwim but don't want him missing out on school either - so dilemma .
Opinions please Smile x

gomummygo · 30/04/2011 16:05

Morning all! :)

Elmo does DS want to go back before his spots clear up?

Cheerful we must get ourselves invited to a UK-based wedding so that we can get to wear the hats! Grin But I am not very tall, so must have strategic seating so that I am not sitting behind one of them!

valiumredhead · 30/04/2011 16:17

Hello people! :)

Really enjoyed the wedding yesterday and had a tea party with my neighbour and her boys - it was fab!

Yanky so sorry for you loss, my Grandad's funeral was last week and I just can't stop with the 'what if I had done more' thoughts Sad
