To think selling your second hand reusable nappies is a bit gross?

Someone I know is selling her reusable nappies, which she has used for her 2 DC.

I know many people pass on baby clothes. I have been glad of hand me downs from friends and relatives but I'd never use second hand reusables. AIBU to think this is a bit gross?

Yes you are. They get washed.

It's one of the great things about reusables. They get used so much which makes them even greener

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 30/03/2011 13:58

Err, no. They have been washed, I presume?

Runningjustasfastasican · 30/03/2011 13:59

Would you wear someone elses pants?

RitaMorgan · 30/03/2011 13:59

They do get washed!

I got almost all mine second hand.

CMOTdibbler · 30/03/2011 13:59

YABU - nappies get cleaned very well, so its no more gross than passing on sleepsuits that had poo leaks imo

eldritch · 30/03/2011 14:00

No, not gross as long as they're washed thoroughly. Nearly new sales are full of them round our way! Smile

RunforFun · 30/03/2011 14:00

I take it I cant interest you in mine then ....

JojoLapin · 30/03/2011 14:00

Hahaha.... Why are you even asking if YABU?

nubbins · 30/03/2011 14:00

I've bought loads of second hand nappies, used them on 2 babies and some of them are still good enough to be passed on again. Why waste them?

CharCharGabor · 30/03/2011 14:00

I don't see anything wrong with it tbh, and have used secondhand reusables. They're clean, it's not like they're covered in wee or poo, is it?

Tommy · 30/03/2011 14:00

very sensible thing to do - they are expensive. And the whole point is that they are washable

Hmm
sethstarkaddersmackerel · 30/03/2011 14:01

no, it's not gross at all, it's very sensible and eco-friendly and will save someone some money.

AIBU to think that throwing them away would be wasteful?

cheesesarnie · 30/03/2011 14:01

same as your second hand baby clothes.whats the difference.

BooBooGlass · 30/03/2011 14:01

yabu, but you know that

silverfrog · 30/03/2011 14:02

yes, you are totally unreasonable.

I had soem second hand nappies for dd1. they outdid her (and she has severe SN, so was in nappies a loooong time) and were still fine for dd2 as well.

they are now awaiting a (potential) dd3, having in the meantime been loaned to my SIL for DNiece.

until it gets absolutely threadbare, cloth actually improves with age/washng/etc - becomes more and more absorbent.

what on earth is wrong with selling them on? they are, after all, only there for babies to crap in...

JojoLapin · 30/03/2011 14:02

Oh... Feel alone in my opinion! I really don't like the idea of that. Same with pants... Wear, don't share.

Runningjustasfastasican · 30/03/2011 14:03

Hear what you are all saying, just me and DH that are weird then - we both thought this was a bit yuck.

Thanks RunforFun but eh no :)

Champersonice · 30/03/2011 14:03

I actually agree with Running. I do understand that some people's budgets are really tight so I wouldn't judge someone for buying/taking used reusable nappies.

BUT...I personally wouldn't wear a pair of knickers that had been worn by someone else before and then washed so I certainly wouldn't want to put my DCs in that position.

Ripeberry · 30/03/2011 14:04

There was a problem with Ebay a few years ago and they would not sell nappies as they were 'used underwear' and I had problems trying to sell my Motherease nappies.
Then some specialist nappy selling groups set up and I managed to shift them for a good price Smile

CharCharGabor · 30/03/2011 14:04

Secondhand baby clothes have usually been covered in vomit, snot, wee and poo what's the difference?

Runningjustasfastasican · 30/03/2011 14:06

Thanks Jojo

BooBoo - honestly didn't know I was being unreasonable I've never seen anyone sell them before which is why I thought I'd ask...

Champersonice · 30/03/2011 14:06

Nooooo Running you are so NOT weird! How many that have replied would buy used knickers and wear them??

Go Jojo - like the expression!

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 30/03/2011 14:06

YABU

Hardly like the baby's gonna notice/care anyway Hmm

Champersonice · 30/03/2011 14:07

I understand the whole ecological debate but I think of reusable nappies as being just that...but just for the baby that is wearing them...not for sharing!!

RitaMorgan · 30/03/2011 14:08

You use a liner in them anyway (I use fleece liners) so the used nappy isn't touching the baby's bottom if that is what worries you.

I haven't bought second hand knickers for me, but I have bought second hand swimsuits - I guess that's the same thing!
