to wonder if MN can actually agree on there being a person in the public eye who we all admire?

Is there any celebrity well known person that is admired/deemed acceptable by the whole of MN?

I doubt it.

Grin

I'll start by throwing Lauren Laverne and Timmy Mallet into the mix.

Yes agree Izzard, Depp, Redgrave (who is dyslexic btw), Walters.

Used to love Hugh Laurie - before he went to the US of LA.

Keith lemon!!

maresedotes · 24/03/2011 20:42

Yes to Karren Brady and Kathy Burke, also Shami Chakrabati. I love Lauren Laverne too - what's not to like??

maresedotes · 24/03/2011 20:43

Just seen that someone says Lauren Laverne not a girl's girl - am surprised. Always wanted her to be my friend.

Also, yes to Tony Benn.

Merrylegs · 24/03/2011 20:44

Virginia McKenna a graceful actress and a tireless campaigner.

redshoes · 24/03/2011 20:45

Brian Cox

ellensmelons · 24/03/2011 20:46

Miranda Hart!? don't know much about RL though. But I do know she's very funny.

Abr1de · 24/03/2011 20:46

ARchbishop Desmond Tutu.

Lulie110 · 24/03/2011 20:47

Back to Steve Redgrave again... OK, Ellensmelons and I are BOTH right - he has dyslexia, Type 1 diabetes, AND colitis. And yes, those 5 golds....

Steve, steve, steve, steve etc etc

LetThereBeRock · 24/03/2011 20:48

I can't watch Brian Cox, He annoys me so much. No to him.

LynetteScavo · 24/03/2011 20:49

I 2nd The Fonz
Dermot O'Leary
Nick Nowles

Davina (I've taken up pretending to be her and it's bloody exhausting)

southeastastra · 24/03/2011 20:50

father ted

bubblecoral · 24/03/2011 20:58

Dolly Parton is awful! I can't believe how many votes she has, I just find her irritating!

I believe Kathy Burke is still on the table? And Joanna Lumley.

I think everyone else I like has been vetod already!

Father Ted is good though. And the lovely Dermot OLeary.

Lulie110 · 24/03/2011 21:01

But... why do you admire Kathy? Going back to the question in the post, it is not who is alright but who do we admire? Am sure Kathy Burke is lovely, but - I don't see why I'd admire her. So I veto her, unless someone can convince me otherwise. Ditto Dermot.

...Leaving Joanna Lumley as still on the table, plus - who else?

GrimmaTheNome · 24/03/2011 21:10

Father Ted's dead though Sad - I think we're trying to stick with live people aren't we?

Needanewname · 24/03/2011 21:13

So it looks like it's a no to dolly (boo) and a yes to David Attenborough and johnny depp (or did I miss some no's there?)

ShirleyKnot · 24/03/2011 21:14

Beyond all the wondrous talent let us remember Dolly's most brilliant quotes:

"I'm not going to limit myself just because people won't accept the fact that I can do something else."

"I'm not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb... and I also know that I'm not blonde."

"You'll never do a whole lot unless you're brave enough to try."

She is fabulous.

Needanewname · 24/03/2011 21:15

Aha, I have a group of people that no one can argue with though they're not slebs

The workers who have stayed behind at the nuclear station in japan, surely they have to be admired, true heros

BamBam21 · 24/03/2011 21:16

Another vote for Dolly here. She is pretty great.

Absolute NO to the repellent James Corden. I truly loathe the man.

Can I nominate Trevor MacDonald?

baskingseals · 24/03/2011 21:16

i second Keith Lemon and dh thirds him

keith lemon for president

ShirleyKnot · 24/03/2011 21:17

There was a no to Johnny Depp further up (whoever it was ain't seen Rango - Amazing film)

If we're seriously saying that the only person in the universe ever that mumsnet can agree on was David Attenborough I am going to laugh myself sick. It's so bloody middle class and predictable

Hey what about historical figures?

Pagwatch · 24/03/2011 21:18

Tim minchin

GrimmaTheNome · 24/03/2011 21:18

Aren't we missing the obvious woman?

Has Michael Palin been mentioned yet? No-one dislikes him. I do love Dolly though (not read all of thread so assume Parton and not The Sheep?)

Lulie110 · 24/03/2011 21:20

Aneurin Bevan (key in 'inventing' NHS).

Importantly I know no more abut him than this, pretty much, so I know nothing that can out me off.
