Just happened upon the last one and liked it, so ...

I don't think The King's Speech is that great a film; I think the directing was often unimaginative, cliched and banal and the script obvious. And Helena Bonham Carter wasn't that good.

My bookshelves are largely low-brow - but you ladies have made me feel much less inferior. My sister gave me 'Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow' for christmas once - I tried to read it, and eventually gave it to the charity shop.

I love classics and I thoroughly enjoy reading them again and again (currently on The Heart of Darkness by Conrad).

THey're great and anyone who disagrees is wrong. Grin

CheerfulYank · 21/03/2011 13:56

DH loves "high brow" literature and I like to put my Nora Roberts next to his editions of Paradise Lost and Chaucer and the like, just to see the pained expression on his face. :)

I do love Wuthering Heights though, and Austen. Shakespeare's all right. I love the Taming of the Shrew.

I hate mini-coopers and a man driving one is probably the very most unsexy thing on the planet.

I once had a dream that Angelina Jolie gave my brother a mini-cooper as a gift. In my dream, I walked up to her and punched her in the face because she gave my brother such a stupid car.

perfumedlife · 21/03/2011 13:59

God, James Joyce, has anyone ever enjoyed him, really?

Having said that, Crime and Punishment is the greatest book ever written.

perfumedlife · 21/03/2011 14:00

LadyOfTheManor · 21/03/2011 14:07

I liked the Dubliners. Hated Ulysses.

Austen belongs in Room 101.

YouTry · 21/03/2011 14:26

Nope, Middlemarch is. That and Anna Karenina are my desert island books.

(English Lit graduate here too)

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 21/03/2011 14:31

Men should never ever drive a (new) VW beetle. A girlier car I have never seen!

LadyOfTheManor · 21/03/2011 14:32

Middlemarch is fab.

sieglinde · 21/03/2011 14:42

Oxford and Cambridge students actually work a lot harder for their degrees than students at other universities.

boosmummie · 21/03/2011 14:53

Apologies allsquare, while I do still run your fan club, it has taken a slight knock over Playhouse Disney...I can't stand anything on there, however there is one exception and I quite like Imagination Movers.

We tend to have wall-to-wall NickJr on sometimes as I have a child who believes that she may well be Peppa Pig.

lesley33 · 21/03/2011 14:53

"Men/boys look stupid in pink shirts."

I think most men look great in a pink shirt. Especially if worn with a nice suit.

CheerfulYank · 21/03/2011 15:04

I don't care how great Brad and Angelina's parenting and do-gooding is, he'll always be a big fat cheater in my eyes.

(Who apparently smells of pee) :o

Team Aniston Forever!

I always get a bit uncomfortable if I see anyone eating a kiwi fruit out of the skin with a spoon

...but, I don't know how else they should be eaten?

Mumofaflump · 21/03/2011 15:46

My unpopular opinion - MGF's are awesome cars and Maxda MX5's are mass produced Japanese Tonka Toys.

Disclaimer - I can't punctuate for shit so I may have misused the above apostrophes. I don't care either way!

boosmummie · 21/03/2011 15:50

Yep, not needed, but I'm such a punctuation/spelling pedant that I would ignore me! I do agree with you on the cars though!

And the Kiwis. I love them, but for the past 4 years I have an allergy to them, so would excuse anyone eating them with a spoon if only I could just enjoy one myself!

VajazzHands · 21/03/2011 15:52

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/03/2011 15:52

G string /thong pants are the most vile invention ever.

boosmummie · 21/03/2011 15:53

*I have HAD an....

LadyOfTheManor · 21/03/2011 15:53

I eat the skin on kiwis. Yum.

Mumofaflump · 21/03/2011 15:56

Boosmummie - you are the first person to agree with me on that! I loved my MGF. Until the day DF drove it into a tree. Sigh. Oh well, my 2.5l V6 Galant is pretty awesome too!

bupcakesandcunting · 21/03/2011 16:19

Jilly Cooper writes marvellous books and if you disregard her work because of what you've heard, then you are missing out on a treat and you need to remove the stick from your arse.

LadyOfTheManor · 21/03/2011 16:22

Jilly Cooper is not a real author. Her books are utter tripe.
