You're a complete arsehole.

OP posts:
lusciousliz · 18/03/2011 23:07

is it compulsory to watch it?

i didnt realise

Disasterpiece · 18/03/2011 23:08

I have literally £16 to last us 2 weeks. From that we need Gas/Electric/Nappies/milk etc. Next pay day is 1st April and I then owe £250 to DP's grandma.

Am I an arsehole for not being able to afford to donate?

To be honest OP I think youre being an arsehole for being so judgey pants and stuck up.

LilaTheBrave · 18/03/2011 23:08

Yep I did, again why wouldn't you?

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/03/2011 23:09

Maybe you should donate more regularly and keep abreast of the stuff that is happening in Africa and closer to home - and then you might feel that you "can't not give something" more often than once every 2 years.........

GypsyMoth · 18/03/2011 23:09

why wouldnt i???

because i didnt watch it!!!

Ismene · 18/03/2011 23:11

Do you do anything to help out in your local community? There are also people in your area who struggle to have human contact, to afford to eat, to care for loved ones, to get through the day.

Do you get up off your arse to do something about it, or it is only celebfests that guilt you into slinging £2 their way so you can feel like you have done your bit?

TragicallyHip · 18/03/2011 23:12

That's a bit fucking harsh op! I have donated but wouldn't call anyone that hasn't an arsehole!

vintageteacups · 18/03/2011 23:12

People choose which, if any, charity to give to.
I donated a couple of pounds to the non-uniform day at school and we buy lottery tickets each week - to which a % goes to many, many charities.

When we choose, we donate larger sums to DEC.

We feel that we offer what we can, when we can.

Everyone does what they can and it's a bit 'uncharitable' of you to assume people are arseholes for not giving to Comic Relief.

If I give £2 a month to Water Aid but £0 to Comic Relief, in your eyes, that would make me an arsehole Hmm

i didn't donate (other than £1 via dd's school), I also did not watch it - infact I have never watched more than about 5 minutes of it. However i volunteer for a charity on a monthly basis and also give to several charities regularly. I am uncomfortable with the whole celeb feel goodness about comic relief and other similar events. If that make me an arehole then so be it.

AprilRose · 18/03/2011 23:13

I wouldn't say complete arsehole...

Personally, I reckon folk should definitely give to charity if they can afford it. That said - I also believe people should be allowed to choose what charity they donate to. It's quite a personal decision. I know most charity supporters give to a cause they have a personal connection to, so Comic Relief might not necessarily be their first choice.

I've donated to Comic Relief this evening (as well as sending a couple of texts to the Radio 1 appeals), so am allowing myself a little bit of smuggery at not being an arsehole!

Skinit · 18/03/2011 23:13

I have nothing in the bank! Yes...NOTHING. Am I an aesehole??

No. I live within my means.
Asrehole yourself OP

Thingumy · 18/03/2011 23:14

I donate lots.

I mainly buy all of our clothes from charity shops.

I donate when I can and where I feel I want to.

I don't like being told I'm a arsehole because I've not donated NOW.

I haven't donated tonight as I have 1.50 on my phone and less then £10 in my bank,I donate when I have the money, thanks.

OP you are a cock.

issey6cats · 18/03/2011 23:14

I'll donate something. To the OP.

A smack upside the head with a dead fish.

GypsyMoth · 18/03/2011 23:15

we're all unanimous in what we think of the op then!!

PeterAndreForPM · 18/03/2011 23:15

The Charity Commission recognises 168,000 charities here

OP, do you give a few quid to them all ?

if not, you are an arsehole

Thingumy · 18/03/2011 23:16

I would swop the fish for a hammer but I'm not feeling the love tonight.

lusciousliz · 18/03/2011 23:16

like i said, most of us donate through our taxes that dave kindly chucks around

NeverGoogleZombieJuice · 18/03/2011 23:16

AIBU to think that the OP is a complete and utter eejit?

And probably the type of person that has donated a few quid tonight and just wants to tell the world because they feel so speshul Hmm

I have neither time nor inclination to discuss who/what/when i donate.

But, everyone please join me in raising your glass to the OP - big round of applause from me OP...you really are a credit to society...

I bet you also expect a thank you card hey?

penguin73 · 18/03/2011 23:16

I already donate as much as I can afford to a range of charities every month by direct debit as well as international disasters and anyone I see collecting on the street for causes I believe in.

I don't need hours of TV and personalities trying to make me feel guilty to make me do that, and I don't think I'm an arsehole for choosing to donate to the charities I choose in a way that I choose. Comic Relief is a good profile raiser and gets people to donate who might not normally do so but it doesn't make those of us who do other things to help other charities bad people.

So yes, YABVU.

hissymissy · 18/03/2011 23:17

I do find it hard to understand how someone could be bombarded all day by comic relief in one way or another and manage to not even give a penny to the cause, whether it be 50p for the kids to go to school out of uniform, or 10p in someone's collection bucket.

YABU to expect everyone to donate considerable amounts regardless of their personal financial situation.

LauraNorder · 18/03/2011 23:17

Have you a financial amount to which the term arsehole is being applied? Is it simply £0 or would my purchase of 3 red noses amounting in a small donation of £3 (happy in the knowledge I donate regularly to several charities most of which Comic Relief are also involved in) entitle me to the title "arsehole" - just wondering Hmm

LilaTheBrave · 18/03/2011 23:18

Well, I just don't get it, those poor children. Sorry I just dont get it, why would you not give SOMETHING?
