You're a complete arsehole.

OP posts:
AlpinePony · 19/03/2011 18:35

I'm the kind of arsehole who doesn't donate to Swiss banks.

princessparty · 19/03/2011 19:28

Perhaps people want to choose themselves what charities they wish to support ,rather than be told by some sleb hamming it up

jesieb · 19/03/2011 19:38

I agree with the person who mentioned contraception.

If you watch the programes and see them try to give their children away, nearly kill themselves to perform DIY abortions etc. They want contraception but it either isn't available or they have to pay which they obviously can't do.

Contraceptives and seterlisation would go a long long way. It would make a difference and help prevent so much suffering.

I'm not saying that I think I have the power of God and are stopping women from having having children. I think we all have the right to have children. What I am saying is actually listen to them and help to prevent so many problems and so much heartache.

toeragsnotriches · 19/03/2011 19:38

I'm actually a humourless, killjoy arsehole and didn't donate. I didn't even watch as most of the years I've watched previously I've not found it very funny. I just donate every month to the unglitzy, unfashionable development charities I already choose to support.

Toerags' arsehole status: 10/10

mummyosaurus · 19/03/2011 19:43

I'm a regular giver to 3 charities. So support them every month, rather than one off to Red nose.

sweetgilly · 19/03/2011 19:43

LilaTheBrave

I wish your da had not donated his sperm.

PeterAndreForPM · 19/03/2011 19:46

lila might be a twat, but sweetgilly's particularly nasty comment was uncalled-for Hmm

feeblephoebe · 19/03/2011 19:52

agree, was just thinking it was particularly childish

cant imagine them using that comeback on Question Time some how

toeragsnotriches · 19/03/2011 19:53

That's low sweetgilly.

GilmoreGeek · 19/03/2011 20:05

This thread really makes me think about our perception of help and whether we are doing enough/the right good stuff.

Silverfrog, may I ask what your job was? Don't answer if it would out you of course. Just interested.
What kind of things did you think went wrong from these so called do good charity programmes?

MadameDefarge · 19/03/2011 20:05

sweetgilly I might well wish your father had not done the same, but then I am far to polite to voice those thoughts in public.

reelingintheyears · 19/03/2011 20:19

Pagwatch...i thought you were going to say your iffy arsehole had seeped through your tena pad..Grin

pawsnclaws · 19/03/2011 20:22

If anyone is interested in how wrongly-targeted (though well-meant) relief efforts can be counter-productive, please read the brilliant book Half the Sky. Truly an eye-opener, but it also gives very positive and helpful advice as to how you can really help, and know that your money is going to the right places.

Salmotrutta · 19/03/2011 20:37

I like to choose what charity I give to - we've given plenty to Comic Relief over the years but we also give to all sorts of other things and I'd really rather not be shrieked at by Davina McCall or Lenny Henry.
And I didn't give to CR this year - I didn't watch it as I have very low tolerance for manic gushiness these days.

leplan · 19/03/2011 20:43

I haven't.

I didn't watch either because, believe it or not, I know how terrible things in the world are but would prefer not to sit on my backside and sob about them with celebrities.

I give money to charity throughout the year - are you an arsehole for not supporting the same ones?

My friend recently raised over £20,000 for his local children's hospital.

Now THAT is doing something for charity, not watching Gary Barlow try and be funny.

TheSleepFairy · 19/03/2011 20:50

And you're a development expert are you? no
You know better, I assume? no

But I am a member of the public that takes in everything I read & watch (inc MN) & imo not enough is being given to the extremly deprived.

It still makes me wonder where all the millions of pounds are actually going.

VajazzHands · 19/03/2011 21:05

You can continually call us all arseholes, then say actually I phrased it wrong!

Once is a slip of the tongue (or keyboard) but over and over makes you an arsehole!

Too disgusted to read any more of a thread where people are slagging off a great cause that raises money and changes people's lives. Mumsnet really is the lowest common denominator, thank God you do not represent the majority and there are kinder, less ignorant people out there
.

GET A GRIP , and read the posts properly . This is about the OP calling people arse holes because they dont commit to the charity she chooses to because celebs do a great job of making her cry.So she appeased her concience and tried to guilt trip people.

Someone on here has already mentioned £20,000 to a local childrens charity so fuck off with the "ignorant people out there" comment and take ya technocoloured judgey pants off the flag pole.

HellonHeels · 19/03/2011 22:48

I am confused - do the slebs get paid for being on CR? I had thought they donated their time and "talent" - anyone know?

PeterAndreForPM · 19/03/2011 22:57

HellonHeels, they may not get paid in money

but publicity, airtime and generally being seen as a "good egg" is worth more than money to them

BooyHoo · 19/03/2011 23:08

i didn't watch it. does that make me a bigger arsehole than watching it and not donating?

either way i dont care what you think. i am stony broke. each year for my dcs birthday's i donate money to local charities and each christmas i donate to those further afield. so i dont do comic relief, and what? there are millions of charities. you have picked yours. be happy with yoru choice and leave otehrs to choose which ones tehy prefer to donate to without judging.

RunAwayWife · 20/03/2011 10:37

If you have AIDS stop having sex. Don't not have children.

If you can not afford to feed a child DON'T have one let alone 10

Education and contraception the most needed things out there

notreallyno · 20/03/2011 11:03

silverfrog, yes I have been out there and seen some of the amazing projects CR and other agencies have funded that have literally saved lives.

RunAway Wife, how naive you are. Do you think women in poor countries always have control over their fertility? Whether to have sex with their husband? They don't, so keep your judgey ignorant views to yourself!

And as for your comment - If you have AIDS stop having sex. Don't not have children - almost don't want to lower myself to respond to something so shockingly ignorant!!! Are you honestly that right wing and stupid? yes, actually, it appears you are rereading your post.

And anyone who suggests sterilisation should go and join the BNP, seriously, what a horrid, Naziesque view. These people need education. It's an accepted fact that the better an education a person has, the fewer children they have. The answer is not narrow minded Westerners suggesting sterilisation, these are human beings like us, you know, not animals - all you Daily Mail readers should recognise it.

TheSleepFairy, why don't you have a look at this and see the difference that is being made.

notreallyno · 20/03/2011 11:05

fit2drop, I did read the posts, and it seems that a lot of them were viciously attacking the OP for her views in the usual mumsnet bullying way. You sound horrible.

fit2drop · 20/03/2011 12:27

notreallyno,
I sound horrible! ok fine , you are entitled to think that. However I too am allowed to think that someone who started her op calling people arseholes and then continued to call people arseholes is horrible too.
You however are obviously of the "lets call anyone who states their opinions a bully"

Are you telling me then that its ok for her to call us arseholes but not for us to defend ourselves.
I have not knocked the charity CR,
I just choose to not donate and IF you had seen my first post on here you would read why.

NOT that anyone should EVER have to justify why they do not.

So Im sorry you think I am horrible.
However thank you for your opinion but I really think YOU should keep it Smile
