To punch an old lady right in the kisser?...

SquishyBumsMum · 16/03/2011 16:10

Ok, ok, so I would never actually punch an old lady, or anyone for that matter..
But AIBU to be extremely pissed off that an old woman approached me in a coffee shop to say how cute DS was etc and then proceeded to tell me how much she felt sorry for me ruining my life at this age with kids, and she bets it's hard coping on my own but then how nice it must be to just be able to live off of everyone else's hard earned taxes and claim benefits. Ooh and what are the council houses in this area like as her friends daughter is moving into one soon...

FGS yes, I'm a young mother, but apart from working tax credits and child benefit, I don't get any benefits! My DP and I work very hard for what we have and are proud that we stand on our own two feet.

Not that there's anything wrong with being on benefits, it just pisses me off that people seem to see a young mum and assume I don't know who the dad is/can't possibly be in a good relationship/live purely on benefits.

I don't see old people and instantly think "Hey look, a demented, incontinent, old biddy!"

So aibu, or should I just accept that this is what people think of younger mothers?

FGS, what is everyone's problem? If you don't like the thread title and "cba to read the thread" then why even bother posting.

There is a lot of stereotyping out there from the older generation and also every other generation.

I don't understand why you would think OP had made this up!

For the PP that sarcastically said you should be proud of your achievements, damn right she should. Why the sarcasm.

usualsuspect · 16/03/2011 17:04

I posted to say I didn't like the thread title ..problem?

SocialChameleon · 16/03/2011 17:04

lets all point at squishy, lets all point at squishy ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra

I'd love to stay and chat but it's now hometime for me...

QuintessentialShadows · 16/03/2011 17:05

Ay Ay.

I did not say I did not believe the op.
I do however feel strongly about such nasty violent titles. I hate seeing such stuff in active convos. Sad

I picture my lovely little old demented mum. Just the kind of thing she would have said to somebody, meaning to be entirely friendly and pleasant.

Though, she cant really go anywhere these days, what with the demands of her fake doll baby, place on her, a young mum. Sad ack. sorry, that is my issue.

She does however have a leathery handbag face too. But pastry, as her cancer meds the last 15 years have kept her out of the sun.

OP, note, you do attract all sorts of people with such titles, and never know when you step on somebodys sore toes.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/03/2011 17:05

usualsuspect... and you also posted (on the thread) to say that you couldn't be bothered to read it... Confused

I tend to swerve those threads that I don't want to read and therefore not post on, but we're all different.

Themumsnot · 16/03/2011 17:06

Yes, CITH2 - don't you have puppies to drown or something?

SocialChameleon · 16/03/2011 17:07

usual, I knew you'd come back - I bet you're reading the thread right now, go on, admit it, you know you want to.

usualsuspect · 16/03/2011 17:07

I can post what I like ,I'm a leathery old bag Grin

Fernie3 · 16/03/2011 17:08

not sure why this post has exploded but i have had this a few times in the last few years. A couple of examples, walking past an old couple the woman looks at me turns to the man and says, "no wedding ring - they never bloody do these days" she did carry on talking but I didnt bother stopping to listen.
Also had a woman sitting behind me on the bus spending the entire bus journey talking about at my age I should be thinking about working for a living rather than living as she said "living in (estate near us) and having babies". I wouldnt have minded so much but I was 26 at the time, married, I worke part time in our business and dont live on the etate she mentioned. I did point this out to her but she seemed to think I was lying. Some people are like that, dont waste energy worrying about them - they spend too long reading certain newspapers.

Ormirian · 16/03/2011 17:08

No it's fine! We don't mind old-lady bashing on MN Hmm

"or should I just accept that this is what people think of younger mothers?" No because it isn't.

SquishyBumsMum · 16/03/2011 17:09

Please, just for the record I don't advocate the punching of anyone from pensioners to puppies. I was just being dramatic for effect, I honestly didn't think people would take it literally!

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 16/03/2011 17:11

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe ..Thank you for telling me how to use MN

QuintessentialShadows · 16/03/2011 17:11

Oh I see, so just for dramatic effect. So that is fine then.

cornsilk678 · 16/03/2011 17:13

Why wouldn't there be judgmental old people? There are loads of judgmental people of all ages. Some of them have got to hover around coffee shops.

SquishyBumsMum · 16/03/2011 17:13

Back under my rock I shall crawl.

OP posts:
Themumsnot · 16/03/2011 17:13

QS - the OP's thread title wasn't well judged and to point this out was fair enough. Obviously the old lady in question may well have had MH issues that caused her to make the remarks in question and you would have been perfectly justified in pointing this out.
But instead you made some extremely nasty comments about the OP's education which were entirely unjustified as far as I could see. That was not nice.

catinthehat2 · 16/03/2011 17:14

"It's starting to sound a lot like harranguing, catinthehat2 and I think you're out of line. Go and rally your little 'gang' somewhere else.

Grin

so many misunderstandings in one tiny post.
so disappointing to see how easily the poster rises to anger, when all I have done is express my complete belief in the OP and support for her followers as they are rounded up on Facebook, PM and elsewhere

QuintessentialShadows · 16/03/2011 17:14

that, my dear, was for dramatic effect.

Wink
LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/03/2011 17:14

usualsuspect... Don't be so snippy, I forgot the Grin smiley.... and I'm jealous of you being leathery as I'm as pale as milk (apparently)...

Rhinestone · 16/03/2011 17:16

OP, I wish to apologise for slating your thread title. Of course it's fine to have a bit of a laugh about punching old ladies 'in the kisser' so long as it's for dramatic effect.

By the way, all the DV advice you'll find on Mumsnet is for young ladies, not old ones. They just have to suck it up.

Anyway, aren't we the lucky ones?! We'll never get old!

SquishyBumsMum · 16/03/2011 17:19

how easily the poster rises to anger - I don't understand where in this thread I appear to have gotten angry??

And I know no one on MN, so I have no one to "round up" Confused

OP posts:
catinthehat2 · 16/03/2011 17:19

Well done Rhinestone, you have seen the error of your ways.

I am glad your apology was so sincerely meant of course Grin

catinthehat2 · 16/03/2011 17:21

SBM I think you'll find the referrence was not to you as the quote was not one of yours

Unless you are also LyingWitchInTheWardrobe

Themumsnot · 16/03/2011 17:21

Ignore them SBM, they are silly girls who don't know how to play nicely.

GypsyMoth · 16/03/2011 17:21

just for dramatic effect?? why?

why were you so desperate to get posters to read this, which really,is a non AIBU.
