To punch an old lady right in the kisser?...

SquishyBumsMum · 16/03/2011 16:10

Ok, ok, so I would never actually punch an old lady, or anyone for that matter..
But AIBU to be extremely pissed off that an old woman approached me in a coffee shop to say how cute DS was etc and then proceeded to tell me how much she felt sorry for me ruining my life at this age with kids, and she bets it's hard coping on my own but then how nice it must be to just be able to live off of everyone else's hard earned taxes and claim benefits. Ooh and what are the council houses in this area like as her friends daughter is moving into one soon...

FGS yes, I'm a young mother, but apart from working tax credits and child benefit, I don't get any benefits! My DP and I work very hard for what we have and are proud that we stand on our own two feet.

Not that there's anything wrong with being on benefits, it just pisses me off that people seem to see a young mum and assume I don't know who the dad is/can't possibly be in a good relationship/live purely on benefits.

I don't see old people and instantly think "Hey look, a demented, incontinent, old biddy!"

So aibu, or should I just accept that this is what people think of younger mothers?

YABU for not thinking up a witty reply Grin!

I was a teen mum too, and people are dreadfully assuming and judgemental. I once got told that ds1 would grow into a thug, he's 21 and no thuggish tendencies so far!

I'm also an older mum, and still get judged

MaisyMooCow · 16/03/2011 16:48

OP, you need to have some respect for your elders. They may not always say the right thing but they don't deserve a 'punch in the kisser' and leathery face insults.

hmc · 16/03/2011 16:48

But then doubtless I've made that up Hmm

Rhinestone · 16/03/2011 16:48

There's no way in the world that you got a 'B' in English Language.

The more I think about it, the more I find your thread title utterly offensive. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Themumsnot · 16/03/2011 16:49

Why are people being so horrible to the OP? OK her thread title wasn't great, but I fail to see anything in her posts that is nearly so insulting as some of the comments certain posters have been making to her. And all this "I don't believe you" shit? If you think she's a troll report her and leave the thread. You know the drill.

hmc · 16/03/2011 16:50

Oh fgs Rhinestone and others - get a grip. The title was admittedly in poor taste but OP wasn't actually advocating punching the old lady in the face.... dear God!

SquishyBumsMum · 16/03/2011 16:51

Aww harassed I was out with one of the mums I met in my parent craft class a while ago who had just had her first DC at 41. She'd had a few health care professionals be extremely judgey towards her because of the risks etc, it sounded horrible, and it's so unfair as she's a lovely mum, it's not her fault she didn't meet her DP until she was in her late 30s.

OP posts:
LDNmummy · 16/03/2011 16:51

Yes, lets all pick on the OP, ALL TOGETHER NOW!

hmc · 16/03/2011 16:52

Pathetic isn't it LDNmummy

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/03/2011 16:54

SocialChameleon... Of course!

I actually miss the old baggage... :(

lovecorrie · 16/03/2011 16:54

Hang on, I've just noticed the OP said she was giving her son a bottle Why has no-one gone completely judgeypants on that yet? Come on you're clearly slacking...

hmc · 16/03/2011 16:55

Give it a couple of minutes....

SquishyBumsMum · 16/03/2011 16:55

Ok, I'm sorry if the title offended anyone, it was obviously not serious, and the leathery face comment is due to her being an excessive tanner and a joke she makes about herself quite a bit.. why am I even bothering to justify myself, if you've made up your mind about me that's your prerogative.

OP posts:
LDNmummy · 16/03/2011 16:55

I just don't get the motivation in this thread for it hmc. Sometimes you see why people flame the OP but right now I don't get the reasoning.

usualsuspect · 16/03/2011 16:56

Your thread title is horrible ....

I cba to read the thread

SocialChameleon · 16/03/2011 16:58

How did this thread get from an old lady being rude to the OP having to justify her academic achievements...

weird Hmm

Are some of you ladies just having a bad day?

Bloodymary · 16/03/2011 16:58

Oh for heaven sake lets leave the OP alone.
I am raising my DGD, I may have mentioned it before, (several times)!
And I have heard mumblings about 'having one at her age'
They cannot even do their maths correctly, as I am 56, and little girl is 5.
So I know where the OP is coming from.

Squishy... You've explained, that should be enough. Not a great thread title, you've acknowledged that. You don't need to do more.

Some people just like to pick holes... or bother to come on to say they won't read the thread. Very odd.

ladyfirenze · 16/03/2011 17:00

Why don't you believe the op apocalypse? the old ladies where I live can physically grab you and start hissing shit and bollocks things in your ear at any moment. The local high street is a bit of an old bag slalem Hmm

SocialChameleon · 16/03/2011 17:00

odd indeed LyingWitch

catinthehat2 · 16/03/2011 17:00

"If you think she's a troll report her and leave the thread."

but I said I believed every single word of the OP Shock

I should also state for the record that I am taking ENTIRELY seriously every single thing that hmc and LDNmummy are saying on this thread

I am now calling on Rhinestone, QS and all the other naysayers to join me in stating their

wholehearted belief in the OP
unwavering support and lotz of hugz for hmc and LDNmummy

SquishyBumsMum · 16/03/2011 17:00

Ugh, I think I'm going to go crawl under a rock and drink a fruit shoot just to give people something to flame me for in my absence.

OP posts:
Themumsnot · 16/03/2011 17:01

It's OK SBM. I think the nasty girls have all run off now.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/03/2011 17:02

It's starting to sound a lot like harranguing, catinthehat2 and I think you're out of line. Go and rally your little 'gang' somewhere else. Hmm
