To be annoyed DH spent £67 on junk food in 3 days?

DH has gone away for a week with work. He's been gone since late Sunday. I checked online banking today and since he's been gone he's spent £67! The charges are McD's, Burger King, a chippy, Sainsbury's and Tesco.... he also spent £20 on 'treats' for him to take with him the day before he left.

All their meals are provided there so AIBU to be annoyed he's spent more than we normally spend on a weeks family shop on pure junk food for himself in 3 DAYS! Angry

Well it could be worse.

You could have the following charges:

Lilo Lil's Massage Parlour £90
Spearmint Rhino £120
Chemist £3

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 16/03/2011 11:48

I guess it depends if money is tight or not?

Maybe he's missing you so much he's comfort eating :)

Or maybe the provided meals are horrible and he's chosing to 'eat out' but as cheaply as he can (kind of)...

Bogeyface · 16/03/2011 11:48

Thats an outrageous amount to spend on crap in 3 days even if he is feeding himself, but to spend it when his meals are being provided is not on at all.

Does he normally eat well or does he hanker after junk and this is a pig out because you arent around?

I wouldnt be happy, especially as this is your food budget.

Strictly · 16/03/2011 11:49

We can afford it, but we are meant to be saving...

I've cut the weekly shop right done so he can go and piss it all away on frigging Mars Bars Angry

He's just a greedy pig frankly and will see this week away as a chance to stuff his piggy face with crap. I mean seriously, they get 3 meals a day so who needs to spend £67 on top of that?!

BHTB, he's not fussy but he is lazy.... so what I hink is happening is he's too lazy to go down for dinner with everyone else and make polite conversation so instead will go to BK for a bloody whopper....

Perhaps the food is crap where they are. Maybe he paid and his workmates gave him the cash.

I would be more worried if it was paying for a meal in a restaurant, or a jewellers.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 16/03/2011 11:51

Maybe he's on expenses and can claim when he's back. It's highly unusual to put BK and McD's on a credit card so he could have been buying for colleagues on the basis he gets his money back.
Don't go jumping to conclusions without knowing all the facts.
If it turns out that he has spent £67 on transfats then you can bollock him then Grin

Strictly · 16/03/2011 11:51

ringoffire hahah yes that is worse Grin

BigBadMummy · 16/03/2011 11:51

Maybe the food provided has not been or is rubbish? Maybe he will be able to claim it back?

To be honest if my husband was away and the things he were charging to his card were just food I wouldnt have a problem with it. Think back to previous MN threads and think what it could have been.

FabbyChic · 16/03/2011 11:52

He must eat like a house to have spent that much, is he fat?

Strictly · 16/03/2011 11:53

No, no expenses as all meals provided. He doesn't normally get cash out so always puts everything on card. He admitted yesterday to one McD's, a BK and a chippy... then I log in now and see a load of others!

I wouldn't have a problem with this, in fact I certainly wouldn't be adding up what my dh's spends on his credit card, unless he had a history of being unreliable with money.

Maybe he doens't want to go to dinner with his colleagues because he wants to get away from the work atmosphere?

Strictly · 16/03/2011 11:55

He's naturally very thin. And naturally very greedy. Luckily for him he doesn't put on weight. However, he does have a Father with diabetes so really shouldn't eat like this.

He said last night the meal provided was a chicken leg with chips and green beans and he ate it all so they're hardly starving the man!

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 16/03/2011 11:57

Blimey - he'll be on the cardiac ward by the time he comes back.

Agree with ringoffire that he could have spend his money on more worrying things - suppose it depends on whether you can afford the extra money

belgo · 16/03/2011 11:57

If he doesn't put on weight then that means he isn't over eating, even if he is eating unhealthy food.

Calling him a greedy pig probably won't help him change his eating habits.

compo · 16/03/2011 11:59

Wow there's no love lost between you on this thread!

Strictly · 16/03/2011 12:01

The thing which annoyed me is how we decided to really save this month and be really careful in Sainsbo's for him to then go away and eat junk for a week Hmm

So I have pasta etc all week to save money and he has a takeway every night.

Plus that amount of junk in 3 days is disgusting Shock

OP posts:
NettoSuperstar · 16/03/2011 12:02

That's a lot of junkShock

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/03/2011 12:03

Does he criticise you, OP, when you buy things that you love need? If not, then I'd leave it. You're his wife not his mother and it's a thin enough line as it is.

Strictly · 16/03/2011 12:06

Yes he does! He goes mad in Sainbo's when I put things we don't need in the trolley. I just think he's being a total hypocrit telling me I waste money on food and then doing this. If he hadn't told me just before he left that we waste too much money on food I would have let his overindulgences piggery go Grin

compo · 16/03/2011 12:07

When he comes home order a Chinese just for you and serve him beans on toast loudly declaring that that's what you've been eating all week Grin

Strictly · 16/03/2011 12:09

I think I just might Compo Grin

That and a 6 pack of jam doughnuts, a 5 pack of Mars Bars, 2 tubes of Pringles, 6 cans of 7up, a family bag of Bombay mix and a TUB of Brownies.... oh no wait they are a few of the bits he took with him which he has apparently already eaten hence the top up trips to Sainsbury's Hmm

OP posts:
Strictly · 16/03/2011 12:11

oh and 2 bags of Haribo Smile
