when he says it as 'sefia' ?

Tis making me laugh quite a lot Grin

Oh yes and when did they start teaching children about 'vertices'? I must be really thick but I didn't know what they were until DS1 told me.

Dd is just starting to speak. She says " goddon" for garden. I don't correct her. Its so cute. So YANBU

boogiewoogie · 09/03/2011 21:58

YANBU, my dd (3) also mispronounces sphere in the same way.

Pinner35 · 09/03/2011 21:59

ahhh, loving these. We have 'cardigton' for cardigan and also that well know nursery rhyme, 'blah blah black sheep.'

MiniMousse · 09/03/2011 22:01

Today we had 'beetlemouse' for woodlouse Grin

lexxity · 09/03/2011 22:03

YANBU we have lomster for lobster.
Ratorator for radiator.

bilblio · 09/03/2011 22:04

DD (aged 3) can't do K sounds... and several others. On world book day we had the following conversation.

DD: Toby was a handsome prince.
Me: Who was, Toby?
DD: No, Toby.
Me: Toby
DD: NO! TOBY!
Me: ... (frantically thinking of children at nursery) ... Kobi?
DD: Yes, Toby.

We had a period last year where all my naughtier friends and family members were getting her to say blackcurrent... she didn't pronounce the R's Blush

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 09/03/2011 22:04

My DB used to say 'Lump' for milk! Grin We never did work out how he managed to get it so wrong.

Ormirian · 09/03/2011 22:04

Zimzamzee was chimpanzee. A wobbly was a wallaby - there is a White one at a nearby wildlife park so that was a White wobbly which used to amuse us.

Bitabitabye = Ladybird
Bampa - Obviously, Grandpa but, Bumpa Mummy = Grandma
Butterby = Butterfly
Boon = Spoon
Spork = Fork
Num num = dummy

DD is 23 months and there are many, many more...the child opens her eyes and is talking!

hmc · 09/03/2011 22:05

Oh I love all that - so adorable. YANBU

Ds used to say "snatch-ooo" for statue and Lelloo for yellow. Hugely disappointing that he has now mastered those words

KaraStarbuckThrace · 09/03/2011 22:06

DS (3.2) says octopus course instead of obstacle course Grin
He also calls butterflies flutterbyes, which I think sounds better!

Loving Darf Waver!

Underachieving · 09/03/2011 22:10

YABU I was 22 before I found out that thing you take photo's with wasn't pronounced camb-ra.

Just kidding YANBU but for Gods sakes tell him before he leaves school eh? I wasn't kidding about the camb-ra thing.

zisforzebra · 09/03/2011 22:10

We have 'biscetti' for spaghetti from DS2 who is 7. It makes me laugh every time. Smile

Christmas used to be 'missmass' which I really miss.

Underachieving · 09/03/2011 22:11

Every child in my family said ffmarties for smarties.

DS not yet talking but DH persists in saying "sangwiches".

Mrsfluff · 09/03/2011 22:13

My DD used to comment on interesting clowns in the sky Grin

dementedma · 09/03/2011 22:16

I still use DD1's phrase "Prawns and cones" instead of "pro's and con's". Used it in a business meeting recently to baffled looks!
DD2 is dyslexic so although she is nearly 18 Shock we still get these delightful expressions, particularly with past tenses. Did you know the past of squeeze is "squoze" (love it) and the past of glow is "glew".
She referred to Barack Obama as "copacobana", much to our hilarity.
A friend's teenage daughter, also dyslexic, once was annoyed at being asked to take responsibility for something and announced haughtily "Well actually, it's not my bolability". We still say that one Grin

vezzie · 09/03/2011 22:17

dd's are all rude.

cocks = grapes (? why? "MORE COCKS MUMMY!" Ok, more cocks coming up...)

Cummy - monkey

Shitbit - biscuit

GibberingGinger · 09/03/2011 22:18

For some reason my two year old calls grapes wow-wows. It's adorable.

Up until the age of about 8 I though Dual Carrigaeways were called Jewel carriageways cause thats the roads they used to carry the Jewels along in the olden days.

And at the age of 13 I was corrected in my pronouciation of De-crap-it. instead of decrepit. Grin Blush

muminthecity · 09/03/2011 22:21

DD used to say 'hairbrella' for umbrella and 'imagination dog' for dalmation. She also called soft cheese 'cheesy butter' which has stuck and is now used by all of the extended family! The only one she still occasionally gets wrong is roller coaster which she calls a 'roller poster' Grin

DS2 (3yrs) likes the pencutor (computer) and sits on his botton. More unfortunately he kept missing the first letter of grapes which is not so good in the supermarket.
