AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

What criteria does an OP have to follow to ensure they get a right royal roasting on AIBU?

It's possibly not the subject because I started a thread earlier on an emotional subject and I'm surprised I've not had even a sniff of a flaming

And it's not dependent on the OP just wanting a bunfight, I was on another blatent trolling thread where the OP was spoiling for a fight, but nobody was rising to the bait (you know who you are gloopy hobbyist Grin)

The ones I've seen where the OP got what for is when they ask AIBU, told they are, and continue to argue the toss.

What is it that riles you to a point where you shed your lovely, compassionate RL personality to give the OP of a thread a good hiding?

Thankfully I'm stalking you this evening whilst getting pissed. I now have the satisfaction of getting very offended.

Sticks tongue out at AgentZigZag.

Goes back to painting.

1 - be unreasonable
2 - insist that you are not unreasonable
3 - claim that anyone saying you are unreasonable is making a personal attack
4 - make personal attacks on those who say you are unreasonable

That should do it :o

people who present their (wrong!) point of view and then finish "fact" or "end of"

or people who post something hugely inflammatory and then refuse to engage any further and try to take the moral high ground - "I'm bowing out of this now as I'm tired of you bitches, however I still think IANBU to feed my 4mo mushed up McDonald's. Some of you don't live in the real world - line up a class of primary children and you will not be able to tell who was fed mushed McDonald's at 4mo, and who was fed organic carrot. I will not be coming back to this thread. End of."

ongakgak · 09/03/2011 20:19

I love it when the " yeah but I have a friend who is black/gay/wears glasses/, so I can't be racist" IDIOT

Oh and twats who moan that their child's care provider (grandma/nanny/nursery/whatever) dared to feed their wunderkind anything other than handmade, organic falafel with raw carrots and wheatgrass.

Fuck. Off.

Underachieving · 09/03/2011 20:33

ongakgak I ahve been on diversity training today, and that is called trophy holding, apparently

blinder · 09/03/2011 20:36

Certain subjects will always do it of course:

Breast / formula 'AIBU to think breastfeeding is disgusting?'
'AIBU to think formula is poison?'

SAHM / WOHM 'AIBU to think mums who work are like Hitler?'
'AIBU to think full time mums are pathetic?'

Especially if the OP thinks she is asking a perfectly obvious and reasonable question.

BlackBag · 09/03/2011 20:38

AIBU to find life tough as a SAHM, the 'working' classes will the queue up to detail their busy days and recieve their medals.

beachholiday · 09/03/2011 20:39

Dont forget to THANK LOUDLY the one poster who vaguely agrees with you and try to engage them in conversation, whilst ignoring the hundred dissenters.

See supersoaker classic thread for prime example of how to ignore responses to AIBU..

thefurryone · 09/03/2011 20:39

Often it's when the OP has a complete failure to see any other point of view except their own, so they aren't really asking AIBU but more "please agree with me I need some validation for my unreasonable point of view"

ongakgak · 09/03/2011 20:39

I love that, I am going to try and use that on a thread before you. I can see me now, aloft my high horse typing furiously- "that is called trophy holding you IDIOT, you are still a crappy person for your OP."

I have another one- drip drip drip feeding through the post.

AgentZigzag · 09/03/2011 20:40

I always wonder why posters get dragged into those kinds of debates blinder.

But then I've never partaken myself in the 'big ones', so I suppose it'd be a new debate to me if I did?
