AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

What criteria does an OP have to follow to ensure they get a right royal roasting on AIBU?

It's possibly not the subject because I started a thread earlier on an emotional subject and I'm surprised I've not had even a sniff of a flaming

And it's not dependent on the OP just wanting a bunfight, I was on another blatent trolling thread where the OP was spoiling for a fight, but nobody was rising to the bait (you know who you are gloopy hobbyist Grin)

The ones I've seen where the OP got what for is when they ask AIBU, told they are, and continue to argue the toss.

What is it that riles you to a point where you shed your lovely, compassionate RL personality to give the OP of a thread a good hiding?

OP posts:

The worst ones are where half way through the flaming the OP goes all Princess-Diana-there-were-3-of-us-in-this-marriage-lots-of-blue-eyeliner-and-Bambi-victim-face and says "I'm going to ask HQ to have this deleted..." and they bloody do.

Waste of everyone's time.

What I really find grating are the conformist majority posters who've not got the balls to start a thread EVER or have a valid opinion of their own and limit themselves to a gleeful flaming of brave OPs and hammering away at them trying to get them to admit they're wrong.

They can always name change and return.

Or, alternatively, get a life.

Maryz your Lady Di post is most excellent. :)

pinkfluffyprincess · 10/03/2011 10:22

There is some sense in what Glasnost says. When I see someone getting badly flamed I usually water my opinion down so as not to become part of it. It is bullying when posters are doing Grin faces at others insults, and belittling people due to spelling, grammar etc. One or two you'll get on most threads but a whole thread full of people insulting the OP isn't on. Unless they are an abuser or cruel (and I don't mean subjective things like ear piercing).

glasnost · 10/03/2011 10:24

I don't know you Maryz. How could I not like you?

Chill and have a Brew.

TandB · 10/03/2011 10:24

People who LOL at the end of every post in a weird passive-agressive way.

Everyone: YABU
OP: I don't care. You are all just jealous. LOL.
Everyone: No, YABU
OP: I am very amused by all you jealous women. LOL.
Everyone: You know YABU
OP: This is just a fun way to pass some time for me. I don't care at all. LOL.

Drives me nuts.

AbsDuCroissant · 10/03/2011 10:31

I would also recommend using txtspk, as kungfu said, lolling all over the place, referring to people as hun and generally acting like a netmums user twat

Having or accusing people of a sense of entitlement

Responding to objections with "well, I'm very wealthy and yous all jealous bitches" or something along those lines. Managing to come across all nouveau riche when discussing how wealthy you also gets extra flamin

but a lot of people start threads in AIBU trying to sound all calm and reasoned, as you do. I am right because I am right is the theme though. The sane tone is supposed to underline that, I am so reasoned therefore I am definitely not BU

Then they get riled and the more they post, the nastier they sound so in the end what's the wonder when they get thrashed? They bringi t on themselves sometimes. There's a point where a half way reasonable person knows to withdraw and leave it. If your AIBU thread is running for more than 6 pages, it is probably turned on you or you have turned on the world, spewing poison all around you. Always like that IME.

the OP lols on AIBU are always a sign someone has lost the plot IMO. It' a kind of last ditch desperate ploy to regain control of your thread. If I start doing that all over my own AIBU thread, I know I've lost the plot

well sometimes but on the whole AIBU brings out the worst in you. I mean you start sounding all reasonable and poloite and saying, yes , yes I do see your point etc to those who say you are >BU but nevertheless I am NBU :) and then you get massively riled at some point and stop trying to pretend thatyou want to hear anything but agreement

It is a kind of thread mechanism

ZZZenAgain · 10/03/2011 11:03

I actually really like Kungfupanda's dialogue because it is so true to life

yes FO&F or just FOF is a good acronym

Think if you want to test AIBU, you need to name change first

MmeLindt · 10/03/2011 11:09

I agree with Hecate. It is random.

OP: AIBU to expect my DH to come home early so that I can go to choir practice, even though he has a lot of work to do.

POSTER1: YABVVU and a total ungrateful bitch, he is WORKING, not off on a jolly.
POSTER2: Are you for real?
POSTER3: FFS. Your poor DH. Get a fucking grip.

OR

POSTER1: YANBU in being upset at missing your choir practice, but if he has work to do, then that obviously comes first.
POSTER2: Oh, how annoying. Is there anyway that he could bring his work home and do it when the DC are in bed?
OP: Hmm, will ask if he can do that. Thanks.

I'm actually quite amazed at how calm everyone is on tortoise's fancy hair vs. fancy food one. Seriously - no one's come on going "you don't even know you're BORN you spoilt cow, imagine that being your biggest problem - I have to eat my own hair I'm so poor, so think of that bi-atch".

Amazing

ZZZenAgain · 10/03/2011 11:17

try one with "dog" in the title would be my tip
