to think it's a bit rank to be walking down the High Street scoffing fish and chips at 10:47am?

Or any time of day.

nikki1978 · 02/03/2011 11:01

Do fish and chip shops open that early?!

TrillianAstra · 02/03/2011 11:03

I like to eat non-breakfast foods for breakfast.

ladyfirenze · 02/03/2011 11:06

what if it were a vindaloo? Wink

Birdsgottafly · 02/03/2011 11:06

I finish upto a fourteen hour night shift by 9.30am and could quite easily eat anything on offer.

When i used to go out drinking and was hungover i used to be first in line at the chippy and would down whatever they served as long as it was dripping with grease Grin.

YANBU (yes i am rank) Wink

PoledrathePissedOffFairy · 02/03/2011 11:06

Depends on your personal diurnal cycle. I used to work night shifts when I was a student - could often be found tucking into stuff like fish'n'chips at 8am when I got off shift.

InPraiseOfBacchus · 02/03/2011 11:07

There's being judgey, and then there's being aware that things are trashy. YANBU

JeremyVile · 02/03/2011 11:07

Scoffing?

Is that very different to just eating?

KittaKatta · 02/03/2011 11:08

I did night shifts for years and that time would have been my dinner time.

Come on Chaos - admit it - you were envious!!! Grin

TrillianAstra · 02/03/2011 11:10

Is it because your mother told you that eating on the street was unladylike?

MooMooFarm · 02/03/2011 11:11

YANBU - and it may be a side issue but what f&c shop would be open before lunch time anyway?

bupcakesandcunting · 02/03/2011 11:11

I would look at someone doing then and my initial reaction would be "eugh"

then I'd get the waft of salty vinegary goodness and I'd be "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

Takeresponsibility · 02/03/2011 11:14

I too work shifts and after a 15 hour night shift a bowl of cereal just won't doo, but my Mum thinks eating in the street is common and we weren't allowed to do it as children, even now if I eat hot doughnuts fromm a van (my particular weakness even though I rarely eat sweet things) I feel guilty.

DS has, on occasion, pretended to greet my Mum causing me huge waves of guilt. DS is 25 and I don't know how he got to be so wicked!

Eating in the street - a guilty pleasure, but definitely chavvy.

sterrryerryoh · 02/03/2011 11:16

I worked nights for years, but even though I finished work at 7am, could never eat an "evening"-type meal. I had all my normal meals at normal times - so would have cereal or toast when I finished a shift. Chips in the morning just feels wrong to me - but we're all different! :)

GandTiceandaslice · 02/03/2011 11:18

well it could have been a greggs sausage roll & a fruit shoot. Wink

kreecherlivesupstairs · 02/03/2011 11:19

I used to have a gin and tonic when I finished my night shift.

christmaswishes · 02/03/2011 11:38

I don't think its unreasonable. Its nearly lunch at that time. They just fancied some bIg deal ?

Dawnyann · 02/03/2011 11:45

I guess it would depend on their appreance. If they looked respectable then i wouldn't think anything of it but if they were a big fat scruffy heffer then i'd prob think they were rank the same as you Wink

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 02/03/2011 11:45

I had chinese for breakfast. Was bloody tasty n all

Dawnyann · 02/03/2011 11:46

just read that back and can i just point out im not saying you're a big fat heffer, i meant the same as you thought in the title of your OP haha:o

gallifrey · 02/03/2011 11:47

Not as bad as walking along drinking a can of lager at that time in the morning, like the skanky bloke I saw last week in Hastings!

TragicallyHip · 02/03/2011 11:49

I used to go to the pub when I finished a night shift at 6am...

I prefer Pizza at that time of the morning Wink

ladyfirenze · 02/03/2011 11:54

perhaps the person in question was in fact rather hungry. This could be due to the fact they'd suffered from 'two day millionaire' syndrome last time they got their giro. It is entirely possible they'd spent some days previous going a little hungry, and come the next giro day, thought 'fuck it, am off to the chippy for a slap up treat'
