To think sleeping without a top sheet is minging?

DP likes to sleep with a sheet covering the mattress (obviously) and then just a duvet on top.

I think this is skanky, esp since DP doesn't wash his duvet cover every week (Hmm) and so it gets really sweaty. I also think it's weird and wrong to not have a sheet above and below you.

AIBU?

Yes

TheArmadillo · 20/02/2011 20:44

YABU
IF you wash the duvet cover regularly (i.e. every week) then whats the difference

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/02/2011 20:45

YABVU.

The purpose of a duvet cover is to keep the duvet clean. Why do you need a sheet to keep the duvet cover clean?

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/02/2011 20:45

Yes. It would be odd to have a top sheet imho

Indith · 20/02/2011 20:45

Huh? How is it less icky to have a sheet? You are still sleeping in contact with 2 cotton surfaces, either a sheet or a duvet cover? Surely all ick factor depends on washing frwquncy and not whether it is a sheet or duvet cover.

InspirationalBreadbin · 20/02/2011 20:45

YABU!

mousesma · 20/02/2011 20:46

Yes and you might be showing your age :) only my mum and MIL would have a top sheet as well as a duvet

Bearcrumble · 20/02/2011 20:46

Yes. I've never heard of anyone using a sheet under a duvet.

At first I thought you meant he slept on a bare mattress. That would be minging.

doonhamer · 20/02/2011 20:46

YABU. We only have the duvet on top and it gets washed and changed once a week. Which is surely the same as having a sheet on top which i presume would be washed every week

FlamingoBingo · 20/02/2011 20:46

YABU

A top sheet is meant to go under a blanket that you don't wash very often. A duvet cover performs the same job over a duvet that you don't wash very often.

LurksAscending · 20/02/2011 20:46

I don't have a top sheet but the duvet cover gets changed every Sunday and sometimes before if DP has been out drinking and is sweaty it has been warmer than usual.

readywithwellies · 20/02/2011 20:46

No top sheets in my household. But they do get changed every week.

I grew up in a top sheet house, went abroad, experienced no top sheet beds.

Now if I have a top sheet it invariably gets wrapped around me and I think I am a caterpillar in a cocoon. So YABU to enforce your choices on DP.

fluffles · 20/02/2011 20:46

YABU - top sheet is weird and unnecessary.

HIBU to not wash his duvet cover regularly too.

TeaOneSugar · 20/02/2011 20:46

YABU, a sheet under the duvet is just extra washing and ironing.

Your DP is also BU if he's not washing his bedding regularly and expects you to sleep in it.

nailak · 20/02/2011 20:46

i have never even heard of a top sheet

LilQueenie · 20/02/2011 20:46

well if you added a top sheet under the duvet would he clean that each week? Kind of makes no difference then does it.

Indith · 20/02/2011 20:47

I do like a top sheet mind you, I don't like sleeping wiht nothing over me but sometimes it is too hot to have the duvet pulled over my shoulders.

Longtalljosie · 20/02/2011 20:47

I've seen it occasionally in the north of England, never ever in the south.

YABU if you think having a sheet which you'll shrug off minutes after falling asleep gets you out of changing the duvet cover.

Bearcrumble · 20/02/2011 20:47

How often does he was his duvet cover then?

Does he just have the one?

Does he do anything else you consider unhygienic?

usualsuspect · 20/02/2011 20:48

yabu

seeker · 20/02/2011 20:48

Only if you don;t wash the duvet cover - but it would be equally manky if you didn't wash the top sheet.

YABU.

Sanesometimes1 · 20/02/2011 20:48

Don't know anyone (even mil) who puts a top sheet on ! so yes YABU.

LurksAscending · 20/02/2011 20:48

Oh, and the duvet gets laundered every month.
DP is a particularly sweaty beast.

Am thinking of banning him from the bed actually. Grin

Bogeyface · 20/02/2011 20:48

If he isnt washing his duvet cover that often, then what makes you think he would wash the sheet more often?

Not getting the point of this post at all!

TeaOneSugar · 20/02/2011 20:49

mousema I was just thinking the same thing, my mil is the only person I know who has a sheet under the duvet, FIL gets in serious trouble if he doesn't keep the sheet between him and the duvet at all times.

MIL has bedding issues.
