To think sleeping without a top sheet is minging?

DP likes to sleep with a sheet covering the mattress (obviously) and then just a duvet on top.

I think this is skanky, esp since DP doesn't wash his duvet cover every week (Hmm) and so it gets really sweaty. I also think it's weird and wrong to not have a sheet above and below you.

AIBU?

Your name reflects your DP then?? Grin

Do you have your own duvets if he has to wash his own?

You definately need something between you and the actual duvet or it's going to be right steggy, especially in the summer.

picmaestress · 20/02/2011 20:49

Yes. No-one I have ever known uses a sheet and a duvet cover. What madness is this?

readywithwellies · 20/02/2011 20:50

My DP is in his 30s and he used to have a top sheet until I persuaded him otherwise. Its how you are brought up and what you are used to IMO

ReindeerBollocks · 20/02/2011 20:50

My grandmother was the only person who ever did the top sheet thing. The only other place I see this is in hospitals.

YABU - as long as the sheets are clean I don't see the issue. If the duvet is dirty, then it's highly likely that if he had a top sheet that would be equally as dirty as the duvet. So it would be his cleanliness methods I would be questioning rather than his use of a top sheet.

SmethwickBelle · 20/02/2011 20:50

I have never in my 36 years heard of having a top sheet with a duvet. You just pull the duvet cover off and wash it. Or get a 4.5 tog duvet and stick the whole lot in the machine with its cover.

AgentZigzag · 20/02/2011 20:51

Oh, you mean a sheet between you and the duvet cover?

Took me a while to post Grin

Yeah, that's weird (you outlandish troll you) Grin

RevoltingPeasant · 20/02/2011 20:52

Agent + Bogey We are living apart right now for work reasons so he has his nasty duvet only arrangement and I have my wholesome sheet plus duvet thing.

So how come M&S sell sheets in fitted and top packs?? You don't just buy a fitted sheet on its own, do you?

macdoodle · 20/02/2011 20:52

YABU, I remeber the days of sheets and blankets all tucked in, then you needed a top sheet as the top blanket was rarely (if ever) washed. However, witha duvet cover that is washed regularly why on earth do you need a top sheet, just plain bizarre IMO.

readywithwellies · 20/02/2011 20:53

Because M&S is for OLD people Grin

SecretNutellaFix · 20/02/2011 20:53

I thought the purpose of duvets and duvet covers was to stop the arsey faffiness that is sheets and blankets?

tulpe · 20/02/2011 20:53

Agree with whomever said "if he doesn't wash his duvet cover every week then what difference is an extra sheet going to make?" (paraphrased)

YABU to suggest he adds extra layers to his bed when he doesn't actually take care of the layers already there.

YANBU to suggest that he actually should stop being a total minger and wash his duvet cover every week.

And perhaps sling the duvet in the wash at least once every other month. Except during the warmer months of the year when actually once a month is more like it.

Bearcrumble · 20/02/2011 20:53

Yes you do.

huffythethreadslayer · 20/02/2011 20:53

I like JUST a top sheet when it's warm and the duvet cover is too hot.

I think using a top sheet as well as a bottom sheet is just bonkers, but have a friend who does it so she doesn't have to 'wear out' her very expensive duvet covers.

Whatever floats your boat!

RevoltingPeasant · 20/02/2011 20:53

Agent, 'troll' is one thing, but 'outlandish'....!

Would have posted 'what the fuckety fuck is a top sheet' but see we have that covered........anyhoo YABU and a weirdo Grin

SecretNutellaFix · 20/02/2011 20:54

because M+s is for more traditional folks who use mouldy blankets which smell of wee instead of light but warm continental quiltsWink

bluebump · 20/02/2011 20:56

I've only ever had a top sheet like this in a hotel.

caughtinanet · 20/02/2011 20:56

A top sheet under a duvet is seriously odd - I've never heard of such a thing and I grew up before duvets were invented Grin

Even my mother who does lots of odd housekeeping type things doesn't have a top sheet.

I've never seen a fitted and top sheet in a pack together - do you have a link ?

Unless you mean a duvet without a cover on, then YABVU.

and weird..

southeastastra · 20/02/2011 20:58

i would worry why you dp is sweating so much in the first place, perhaps your duvet has too many togs Grin

NimpyWindowmash · 20/02/2011 20:58

Never heard of this. YABU

readywithwellies · 20/02/2011 20:59

Can't believe how many people haven't heard of top sheets at all!
