AIBU to think perhaps people should be looking after their children instead of arguing with strangers on the internet?

Firstly, I fully expect you all to flame me - feel free.
Secondly, I am aware of the obvious contradiction in suggesting that people should have better things to do than be on MN, when I am clearly on MN in order to type this, so please try to resist the urge to endlessly point this out.

I am name changing for this, but this is the second time I have been on MN since my daughter was born 5 months ago.

I used to come on MN quite a lot. It was helpful when I was pregnant and constantly obsessing about childbirth and pregnancy in general. I also think it is probably a really useful source of support for things like feeding, sleeping, special needs etc.

However, now that my baby is here, I find that I have more than enough to do looking after her and trying to keep up with everything else in my life.

I am amazed at the number of people who seem to have a number of children, and yet have time to argue prolifically with total strangers over the internet about their useless husbands/annoying children/vile mother in law/tedious customer service complaints at the supermarket, etc etc etc.

Seriously? Have you nothing better to do?If you have children, I find it hard to believe that you don't!!

I think ignoring your children occasionally is a perfectly valid parenting style.

galdem... thanks for reminding me!...God I'll be ringing mners anonymous before the night is through Grin.

YANBU - There are a lot of people who are on MN all day, regularly, arguing with strangers - same names crop up over and over. I have thought the same as you; often posters say 'hang on - got to get kids' lunch - back in a bit' and ten mins. later they are back on. Why aren't they talking to their DC instead of complete strangers? It's quite sad really.

There was a thread recently by a poster who reported unaccompanied school children to social services. She said she rang the school but didn't have time to wait, when they didn't answer, so she reported them to Social Services - and proceeded to spend the entire day on here asking if she was being unreasonable.

I don't give two hoots about being flamed by a bunch of strangers, so bring it on. Grin

Oh look, a controversial OP and new posters who agree with it and get everyone riled up, I thought the shit stirring troll invasion was quashed?

BooyFuckingHoo · 19/02/2011 22:01

must be a few stragglers fanjo.

ChippingInFanciesCheeseOnToast · 19/02/2011 22:01

It would appear that a couple have snuck under the radar Fanjo.

I do think the sockpuppet instructions must still be around though Wink

A few stragglers seem to have bred like rabbits, they are everywhere Wink

blueshoes · 19/02/2011 22:04

I have to admit Mn is a timewaster.

Many times I have been on here, sometimes even arguing with strangers, instead of doing something else and was then filled with self-loathing that I wasted that time and went to bed too late.

After a while, the threads get samey and so there is really no point reading the same things said in a thousand different ways.

But I use it to relax, although I really should be going back to doing the reading I brought home.

Soso24 · 19/02/2011 22:07

OP, how did you managed to type a long post when you have a baby to look after? Also i'm sure you have time to be checking people's comments.

GORGEOUSX · 19/02/2011 22:07

blueshoes You're so right. Am going back to my book. Smile

Tortington · 19/02/2011 22:09

i have to agree with the op actually and i'm not scared to say so.

there are some posters who post prolifically and have kids and it does amaze me how they manage to post and be quite so high profile, and look after a family.

all things in moderation.

eddiemccready · 19/02/2011 22:10

i have 5 dc they are perfectly capable of looking after themselves. Yes the baby is 1 and I do have to change her nappy twice a day, but other than that she's happy in her little play pen. dc, 8 can pour out the milk in the mornings over the frosties and they can all drag a stool over to climb up onto the bench for a jammie dodger or a fruit shoot. What else do they need, they've got cbeebies.

FoundWanting · 19/02/2011 22:12

I'm confused now. I only get time to dip in and out between bouts of intensive parenting.

Is a sockpuppet the same as a wank-sock? Is this MN slang?

eddiemccready · 19/02/2011 22:20

iphone?have you heard of them?
