AIBU to think perhaps people should be looking after their children instead of arguing with strangers on the internet?

Firstly, I fully expect you all to flame me - feel free.
Secondly, I am aware of the obvious contradiction in suggesting that people should have better things to do than be on MN, when I am clearly on MN in order to type this, so please try to resist the urge to endlessly point this out.

I am name changing for this, but this is the second time I have been on MN since my daughter was born 5 months ago.

I used to come on MN quite a lot. It was helpful when I was pregnant and constantly obsessing about childbirth and pregnancy in general. I also think it is probably a really useful source of support for things like feeding, sleeping, special needs etc.

However, now that my baby is here, I find that I have more than enough to do looking after her and trying to keep up with everything else in my life.

I am amazed at the number of people who seem to have a number of children, and yet have time to argue prolifically with total strangers over the internet about their useless husbands/annoying children/vile mother in law/tedious customer service complaints at the supermarket, etc etc etc.

Seriously? Have you nothing better to do?If you have children, I find it hard to believe that you don't!!

Mine's fast asleep, thanks. and so is my DH.

I'm currently doling out contraceptive advice to my 17yo cousin on FB, so I am being responsible at the same time as MNing. It can be done.

darleneconnor · 19/02/2011 21:05

Oh, I'm sorry can you not do more then one thing at a time?

tralalala, so when my dd is playing in her room, or on her Wii, or reading, or in bed, or at school I am supposed be in stasis?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 19/02/2011 21:06

PFB much? Hmm

MogadoredMemoo · 19/02/2011 21:06

I come on when my dc are asleep or at school.

Or maybe we're all just a bit better at this parenting lark than you.

Galdem · 19/02/2011 21:07

I post loads. Every day. I often spend an hour or more per day on here.

Because I work full time, study and am a mum I don't have a huge amount of time / energy left to socialise, so MN is my social life during the week (and sometimes at weekends, too Grin). Is that sad? Maybe. I don't happen to think so, though. I love MN. It's fun.

LoopyLoopsHulaHoops · 19/02/2011 21:07

Maybe we're just better at parenting than you. If it takes up all your time leaving no time for anything else, you're the one with a problem. And a chip.

mumbar · 19/02/2011 21:07

Jeez wish I'd known about MN when my DS was 5 months old and my spare time was greater.

Eh no worries I still fit it in between being a LP, working full time, doing my OU degree and the houseowrk.

Its all about time management - DS is playing in room, dinners in the oven, what to do? clean MN. Grin

And he's a sleep now. Grin

pagwatch · 19/02/2011 21:07

If you are too stupid to organise your time. And too limited to appreciate that others may have different life circumstances to you then no, yanbu.

Bearcrumble · 19/02/2011 21:07

Does your child never sleep then?

NosyRosie · 19/02/2011 21:07

I thought that's what naps were for Confused

3cutedarlings · 19/02/2011 21:07

I agree with the other posters, we are all just better at this parenting shite than you Grin

Mists · 19/02/2011 21:08

Northern no, you should be considering wearing a pretty ribbon in your hair. Stasis is a luxury.

BitOfFun · 19/02/2011 21:08

Oh, now that's unfair- I'm sure the OP is a wonderful mother. She just needs to brush up on her inter-personal skills.

youareallgoingtoshoutatme · 19/02/2011 21:08

I think its pretty clear that there are some people with small children who must be on here whilst their children are awake and could probably do with being looked after.

For what its worth, my DH is v supportive - thanks for all of your concern though! When my baby is asleep, I work, because I can do quite a lot of my job from home which keeps the money flowing in whilst I am otherwise on maternity leave. Either that or I talk to actual people I actually know, either on the phone or in the flesh, rather than random strangers on the internet.

Multitasking... a learned behaviour.

Millie1206 · 19/02/2011 21:10

Sadly I've just stopped breastfeeding but when DS was 5 months I could've spent hours each day on mumsnet while feeding! iPhone=ultimate breastfeeding companion!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 19/02/2011 21:10

you really are practically perfect in every way aren't you!

BooyFuckingHoo · 19/02/2011 21:10

"I think its pretty clear that there are some people with small children who must be on here whilst their children are awake and could probably do with being looked after. "

what makes you think tehy aren't being looked after? if my child is watching TV do i actually have to be looking at him to be looking after him or is it enough taht i am beside him on teh sofa with my phone?

NosyRosie · 19/02/2011 21:10

So why are you here now?

And why did you come here in the first place if we're all sad losers with no lives of our own?

tralalala · 19/02/2011 21:10

no just some people blantantly spend hours and hours on here everyday. And spending that amount of time in front of any screen is a waste of alife imo.

MogadoredMemoo · 19/02/2011 21:10

So where is your child when your on here?

Mists · 19/02/2011 21:10

How lovely for you! Keep it up OP Smile

NinkyNonker · 19/02/2011 21:10

I have a 6 month old (asleep at the mo, fingers crossed), yet manage to look after the house (Hmm), look after her including various groups and activities, redecorate said house (well, my slave husband does the hard bits), study, socialise etc etc. (Mainly from my phone when stuck under sleeping daughter.)

I don't know how I fit it all in, must tell DH that I have a tough gig going here.

Though I admit, this time in a year or so I might be looking Confused at this post if we have another one!
