Benefit Bashing

Kendodd · 18/02/2011 16:40

A mum I know and her DP with two children live in a two bed (nice) HA house. Neither of them work and have not worked for as long as I've known them (two years) I don't know about before then. She has told me they are trying for another baby, not to get a bigger house or anything, just because they want four children eventally. I would love four children but can't have that many because for one we just can't afford four.

AIBU to feel a bit pissed off that they can have more children and I can't or am I just a jealous benefit basher.

ps They are both nice and don't have a flatscreen TV.

Giraffe you do make me laugh out loud. Grin

As you say, everything is cheap when it is not you who pays for it, so I am guessing your education was dirt cheap then??

CrispyCakeHead · 18/02/2011 23:39

If liberals are such a minority SP, then how could the tories not make a govt without them? not exactly screaming right wing majority themselves are they?

And having been on MN since you were probably still at school with nary an idea you'd be a mum of two by the time you were 23, it's my experience that the majority MNErs are pretty liberal in their views.

BooyFuckingHoo · 18/02/2011 23:39

wait, giraffes, what is that post abouit, you haven't explained it.

hissymissy · 18/02/2011 23:39

While I am anti any sort of benefit bashing, I have to say I sympathise with the OP. I do not think any couple where neither partner works should be actively trying for a baby. Full stop.

OK, accidents happen, people get preggers, or people lose jobs, or relationships break up, and then the state steps in temporarily to help. This couple, however nice they may be are being irresponsible.

But overall, I'd rather their kids were provided for, than not, IYSWIM.

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 18/02/2011 23:41

Thesecondcoming - it is useful. It got me my job... The one that pays for my child.

BooyFuckingHoo · 18/02/2011 23:42

anythingwithagiraffeonit

what did your post to me mean?

popcrackle · 18/02/2011 23:42

But who paid for the degree Giraffe? Who?

what is a benefit seeker?

is that someone who looks for benefits before actually claiming?

This?

BooyFuckingHoo · 18/02/2011 23:44

okay okay, if i give up internet, PC and my tayto smoky bacon crisp addiction, can i then have another child?

coem one there are tax payers on this thread, aren't you the ones that should have this decision??

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 18/02/2011 23:45

Popcrackle - my parents did. And I worked in monsoon & in a bar for money to live on... Anything else? Would you like to read my personal statement? Perhaps interview my grandparents?

BooyFuckingHoo · 18/02/2011 23:45

"Boofuckinghoo - I wouldn't know the right term... But jump straight on that when it is crystal clear that you have no other defence."

this.

what is this about?

BooyFuckingHoo · 18/02/2011 23:46

do you mind having to tell your life story to justify you current situation giraffe?

CrispyCakeHead · 18/02/2011 23:46

booy, you're forgetting all those hand me down clothes and school uniform; No3 won't cost a thing, ever Wink

why are they irresponsible hissymissy? he is studying..presumably with a view to a career change/bettering his career prospects? why should they put their family on hold? surely better to spend time with their LOS while they have the time to spend with them rather than waiting till he is working and paying someone else to look after the baby?

...but you are also falling into the trap of assuming they are on benefits. The OP never mentioned this.

Hissymissy Giraffe and others who are with the OP.

If you check the posting of the OP you will find that the OP had 3 children in 3 years, says her family is on above average income, but has also posted with regards to seeking employment as a benefits checker and an actor as well as posting that she can not work out how other people can buy stuff in the sales. Confused Confused

The benefit bashing may have no real foundation, other than living in the very large space between the OP's ears, and surely there is room for rent if they do live there. Wink

BooyFuckingHoo · 18/02/2011 23:49

true crispy, but i have to wait for permission from the taxpayers before i can do it.

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 18/02/2011 23:50

Happy talking about it! My current situations pretty rosy so just happy to set you all a good example.

Lol (and degree educated, whatever next...)

CrispyCakeHead · 18/02/2011 23:51

Wine anyone?

BooyFuckingHoo · 18/02/2011 23:52

would you feel the same if your situation wasn't so rosy and you having to tell your story in order to get money for survival?

BooyFuckingHoo · 18/02/2011 23:52

oh yes, again.

"Boofuckinghoo - I wouldn't know the right term... But jump straight on that when it is crystal clear that you have no other defence."

this.

what is this about?

popcrackle · 18/02/2011 23:53

Giraffe I'll leave you alone now, but I'll tell you a secret, I think you will find that tax payers paid a huge amount towards your degree. So just remember that, you know those cleaners who may have popped in to Monsoon when everyone else had gone home, those low earning cleaners with families to support, who went ahead and god forbid had children.

Unless you are going to come on here and say that you are an overseas student, but that could not have been the case as you have been able to work while studying.

Anyhow it has been hilarious and I hope you get a Bafta one day. Grin

CrispyCakeHead · 18/02/2011 23:58

apart from giraffeonit who is a pompous git and deserves no Wine

I'm pretty comfortable as well as it happens though giraffeonit...for the time being anyway, until DC takes our CB away but leaves our DIIK neighbours (that's dual income 1kid) alone, who earn almost twice what we do

and I have a degree, and a 20 year old career as a construction professional, responsible for the design and construction of health centres, schools and hospitals, so I'm fairly secure in the knowledge that my degree has at least been of some benefit to society at large.

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 18/02/2011 23:58

Popcrackle - you think student sales assistants in monsoon earn so much more than cleaners?

Boofuckinghoo or whatever... I already posted you why I wrote it. Scroll back. You decided to pick up on me writing 'benefit seekers' rather than responding to the point I was actually making. I would have thought it was quite obvious.

And Popcrackle - my parents paid for my education. I'm sure I got the same fees allowance from the government as everybody else, but isn't it means tested? This is why I'm pretty sure my parents paid.

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 19/02/2011 00:00

Do you watch TV?

Then my degree has been of some use to you and society as well.

I love it - only on this thread could you be insulted for actually having a job.

popcrackle · 19/02/2011 00:00

and Boo maybe Giraffe was being a bit uppity, saying that she used benefit seeker as a term because she could not be expected to know what the correct term is (by way of her being self sufficient, with a tax payer funded education or married to a hard working husband or whatever the scenario is??).
