I swear I am going to get violent and pummel 'D'H into submission. Also where can we go on holiday?

'D' H is being an arse.

I would imagine a nice holiday first week of august, 4 people, somewhere warm, not too far away, nice, interesting, with beach would cost in the region of £2k.

AIBU?

If I could find somewhere for less that would be fabulous but bloody skinflint arsehole 'D'H thinks 2k is too expensive.

It is expensive but we never go anywhere and I have vowed this year we bloody will.

It would cost less if we went without him.

What about self catering - usually comes in cheaper. (Unless you eat out every night like we do...)
Anyway - have you looked at Owners Direct, say?

FabbyChic · 13/02/2011 19:11

I can't answer as I think 2k for a holiday is criminal.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 13/02/2011 19:11

can you afford it? is he worried about the money?

does the 2K include all spending money?

If he really thinks it is not affordable, then you shouldn't dismiss that. If you are rolling in it and use £20s to wipe your arses, then he's being unreasonable. Grin

reelingintheyears · 13/02/2011 19:12

But can you/he afford it?

£2k on a holiday is a lot of money.
I have never spent that much on a holiday.

Oh,er, who's paying?

TrillianAstra · 13/02/2011 19:13

£2k is a lot or a little depending on what you can afford.

AtYourCervix · 13/02/2011 19:14

I don't have small children. I have stroppy self sufficient teenagers Grin

We could afford it if we saved (which I have been.

For the last 4 years (every other year - not every year) we have gone for the cheap option and spent a week inthe cold, being uncomfortable. This year I need warmth, and a beach. But am clueless where to go.

So where is nice but cheap?

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 13/02/2011 19:15

1st week of August is not cheap!

impossiblyglossy · 13/02/2011 19:15

2k is criminal?
friggin nora
it costs us £2.5k to go camping in france

reelingintheyears · 13/02/2011 19:15

Fuck it.....

I've never been on that sort of holiday..
We go camping and it doesn't cost £2k.

compo · 13/02/2011 19:15

Is that all in?
We spend about 500 max on selfcatering
in this country though and everything else on top like food, exursions
we don't have 2 k though

FoiledAgain · 13/02/2011 19:16

POrtugal is apparently still not too expensive.

Deaddei · 13/02/2011 19:16

That is a great article!!
It's the flights which are expensive. We are going to Portugal last week of July- the villa is £1000, flights with Monarch for 4 people are £1200. Easyjet were more expensive.
Plus meals out etc......
So I don't think you're unreasonable- peak season travel is extortionate.

reelingintheyears · 13/02/2011 19:17

Nice but cheap is BOURNEMOUTH.
Or Swanage.

compo · 13/02/2011 19:17

It's not criminal if you can afford it
or do you mean the people charging are crimnal Grin

impossiblyglossy · 13/02/2011 19:17

yep we bararely got a week in greece last year for under 3k

till SUNISLE/PEREFECT BLUE HOLIDAYS went bust and took our money

Deaddei · 13/02/2011 19:17

Oh and that's for a week.

FoiledAgain · 13/02/2011 19:17

For example...

AtYourCervix · 13/02/2011 19:17

first week of august is the only week we all have off together.

compo - that's what we do normally but not this year. this year i am having sunshine. and a beach.

OP posts:
impossiblyglossy · 13/02/2011 19:18

go to la rive in france
lakeside beach and lovely

compo · 13/02/2011 19:18

Is he worried about money, his job, your job?

BitOfFun · 13/02/2011 19:19

If you eat hot gravel for breakfast and allow 14p per person for evening meals, you should be able to keep warm and satisfy us lot as to your holiday plans.

Tical · 13/02/2011 19:19

We got a fortnight in Majorca last week of August for less than £2k last year, and a fortnight in Portugal same time the year before. Nice hotels by the beach with kids club. Fortnight holidays are often much more cost effective than week long hols, so it may be that you are looking at £2k for a week.

Pricey, though!

activate · 13/02/2011 19:19

I don't understand how you can go abroad for less to be honest

so am surprised at some of the responses

we enjoy Turkey for cheap holidays, good self-catering accomodation but as there are 6 of us I wouldn't even begin to guestimate the total

impossiblyglossy · 13/02/2011 19:20

1.5k in August we loved it there
