some of the opinions posted are hideously ignorant, largly offensive show the poster to be a cunt.

it has nothing to do with polictical correctness or netmums fluffyness.

it is all to do with the poster being a total and utter wanker

I didn't know you were the 'informed opinion' police.

TheFallenMadonna · 07/02/2011 21:36

What?

Goblinchild · 07/02/2011 21:37

There is a misunderstanding about the word diagnosis.
Sometimes it means something that has been arrived at through the judgements of several professionals in the field, backed with observations, tests and evidence. Parents use it as a key to unlock access to support.
Sometimes it's used by parents to explain their difficulties with their own children, and abdicate any sort of respoinsibility.
That's not a diagnosis, it's an opinion.
But in the eyes and ears of the terminally ignorant, they are one and the same.

HingCogNeeto · 07/02/2011 21:41

oh dear Gorgeousx

you have stated your position, opinion, on 'over-diagnosis' (my quotation marks) of ADHD, some folk have said but hang on, this is a false premise, it's not easy at all to get a diagnosis, you have hung on to your position and opinion regardless, presumably you have your fingers in your ears going lalala, which is a shame because you could take stuff on board, be prepared to challenge your own thinking even

ho hum, eh

GORGEOUSX · 07/02/2011 21:45

HingCong Which part of my 21.33 post do you not understand? Hmm the word thick comes to mind....

BurnAfterReading · 07/02/2011 21:47

End

mayorquimby · 07/02/2011 21:48

many times being un-pc means you are a bit of a cunt.
many times being pc and "liberal" means you are a bit of a cunt.

claig · 07/02/2011 21:50

well said mayorquimby. Who polices political correctness, who wants to stifle thought and debate and why?

Who is looking for support on this AIBU thread?

amarone · 07/02/2011 21:53

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU ALL?!

Read the said thread with some amusement today, and highly enjoyed it; despite being quite personally offended by a lot of comments.

But..., that was the whole point of the thread - reveal your hidden prejudices that you don´t normally dare to reveal!

It was "light-hearted" but of course sometimes we don't like to hear the honest opinions of people...

JaquesTouatte · 07/02/2011 21:56

"'Cunt' - it's the new 'I beg to differ'"

I beg to differ.

amarone is right. Everybody has different opinions. Some believe in God and others tell them it is all about imaginary friends. That's life, adults have different opinions. It's about free thought. We all disagree about some things, and everybody finds different things offensive.

Changing2011 · 07/02/2011 21:59

Agree Amarone.

FabbyChic · 07/02/2011 21:59

The easiest way surely to register your distaste at said thread is to report it as being offensive, which it is.

FabbyChic · 07/02/2011 22:00

Claig but you don't go slagging off others beliefs you have a reasoned debate.

There is no debating on the other thread, just disparging, offensive comments.

GORGEOUSX · 07/02/2011 22:00

I too found thread funny but it became pretty obvious at one stage that it was no longer 'light-hearted' and a lot of people were going to be upset - and for that reason, IMO (which is not subject to policing) I say it went downhill.

penelopestitsdropped · 07/02/2011 22:01

no there is no difference of opinion over MEDICAL FACT!

i have dogs and cats. i saw a few "if you have pets your house smells" and i did a smile and thought oi you cheeky git.

but when i see things about mobility cars needing stickers, ADHD not existing or at best down to bad parenting, calling something gay not being homophobic...and all the other seriously offensive posts mingled in with the other minor prejudices, im sorry it is no longer lighthearted.

OP posts:
GORGEOUSX · 07/02/2011 22:03

Fabby I don't think that thread was supposed to be 'debated' - I assumed the whole point of it was that it WOULDN'T be debated.

BurnAfterReading · 07/02/2011 22:03

Being lighthearted doesn't give out license to be just plain downright horrible....

People should have more tact!

You should be prepared to say out loud in company whatever you type on here - I bet there are many posters who hide behind the security of a screen and vent.

Then they disguise the fact that what they have said is rude by just saying...that's my opinion....

I think some people need to go back to school or take lessons in conducting themselves in society...

claig · 07/02/2011 22:05

I didn't read the other thread, but I am not surprised that other people disagree with my opinions. Didn't you post teh BBC article about headteachers saying that there was misdiagnosis of ADHD and that some parents seek the diagnosis for benefits. Headteachers are as politically corretc as you can get, as is the BBC. Lots of people really do believe that. it is no good reporting them and shouting them down. they are notr evil people, they just believe what they believe. You have to convince them by reasoned debate, not by reporting them.

balloonballs · 07/02/2011 22:09

Gorg I wasn't questioning your right to hold an opinion.

I asked whether you had any basis for it as I found it a remarkably silly one in view of the contents of this thread.

You have of course every right to hold a silly/ignorant opinion.

I note you've learnt the difference between opinion and diagnosis which is nice, so the night hasn't been wasted has it?

I didn't sign up to any "no judging" malarky.
