some of the opinions posted are hideously ignorant, largly offensive show the poster to be a cunt.

it has nothing to do with polictical correctness or netmums fluffyness.

it is all to do with the poster being a total and utter wanker

OP posts:

It is the kind of thread that could easily be picked up by a journo. Expect it on The Wright Stuff in the morning.

I posted on those threads that i wouldn't like most posters to be in charge come the revolution and that it was amazingly how quickly it got 'radicalised'.

It really did remind me of those social experiments where scientists see how far people in a herd mentality will go....

....at the end of the day they just came across as horrid, horrid people.

balloonballs · 07/02/2011 20:13

It is a pity that it's gone the way it has. I suspect it was started with the idea of "have a moan without competitive misery giving you a kicking" but now it's gone very wrong.

I have been surprised lately with the amount of prejudice that is still around once you scratch the surface.

I suppose the only way to look at it is as a reminder that we have to keep plugging away at educating and informing.

That and to remember they're mostly just ignorant cunts.

Reading more on this thread, it would seem I didn't actually get to the end of that thread. I might change my mind in a bit.

falsemessageoflethargy · 07/02/2011 20:13

I knew that thread would go like that right at the beginning - it becomes a complete free for all for people to be offensive.

Theres a lot of it about atm on MN and I'm finding it increasingly wearisome challenging it all the time and being seen as a humourless harpy or worse still, challenging it and then the poster comes back with a new name and sticks up for themselves iyswim - something I have never done in the years I have been here (theres a name for this isnt there -what is it?).

Web Wanking?

Thingumy · 07/02/2011 20:15

Read the threads in question and didn't post as knew it would end up with judgmental bullshit.

Am sorry that peachy has left Sad

TheVisitor · 07/02/2011 20:15

I think the original idea for the thread was "borrowed" from BMC. It didn't degenerate how it did here though.

Blacksand · 07/02/2011 20:16

I didn't realise Peachy had left either.

balloonballs · 07/02/2011 20:16

Sock puppet, false?

AnyFucker · 07/02/2011 20:16

I gave that thread the swerve for a very good reason

I hate the way they always go

Blacksand · 07/02/2011 20:16

BMC?

chickencrisps · 07/02/2011 20:17

i dont agree with all the statements on there, but im not afraid to let people say them or think them

everyone is entitled to have whatever opinion they have without fear of being labelled ist

weedle · 07/02/2011 20:17

To add my tuppence worth I do think that for every poster that took chance to say things that have upset you, there are 50 or so who were chatting away about pets/coffee etc etc.

Though maybe IABU for looking at the good in people...

bibbitybobbityhat · 07/02/2011 20:18

To some extent I agree with what you are saying op.

However, I also think that you and others were total and utter wankers over the way a certain controversial poster was rounded on and bullied a few nights ago.

People can be incensed and extremely hurt and damaged by mere words on a screen, can't they?

Blacksand · 07/02/2011 20:19

Ah but these people are walking their children to school next to you, serving in shops, being your lawyer or doctor.

MN doesn't exist as a totally separate entity to RL.

AnyFucker · 07/02/2011 20:20

this thread will go horrible now, mark my words < sigh >

difficultcow · 07/02/2011 20:20

Most of those bigots are trolls from another forum that went down the pan because of their behavior, they actually discussed coming over here for a wind up a few weeks ago.

Blacksand · 07/02/2011 20:20

which poster bibbity?

JoBettany · 07/02/2011 20:21

People can have any opinion they want. Sometimes though, you don't have to express it. It's called 'thinking'.

Both threads are a classic example of the herd mentality that takes over on here from time to time, leaving many posters bereft of good taste and common decency.

OP YANBU.
