"To think people with mental health issues should be locked up?"

I don't get why they closed the asylums, now we have all these unstable lunatics wandering round the streets. There is one living near me so I can't even let the dc play out in case she kidnaps them and locks them in her cellar. I think they should start some kind of loony register to keep tabs on them and then they can notify residents when one moved into the area!

fit2drop read back into the thread.

Sincere appologies to snapfish for not reading the whole thread, , but will stand by my statement as intended for the person she was "pretending /ghost writing" to be to make her point.

Well played snapfish ,:)

read back is correct BUT ott op will get response, and tbh subsequent posts get overlooked. it wasnt apparent that op was an account of experiencing stigma, rather than being prejudiced

op take heart at support and empathy for mental health

I really hope that nobody else with mental health problems gets only as far as your OP, feels as hurt and upset as you did at the school gates, and closes the thread before realising you were trying to make a point.

I get what you're trying to do here but I don't think it's terribly sensitive to the vulnerability of others.

I have been out of hospital for over a year through to PND (i was in through xmas 2009 and got discharged feb10). i have a very sick dd who is on oxygen and is not expected to live longer then 3 years (without transplant), She is 2.6years now.

I have cut myself off from the outside world through people saying simalar to me when I first got out of hospital. I only go out when I have to such taking dd1 to sch (usually dp takes her and picks her up) or when I have to to go to the hospital either through dd2 illness's or my illness (a different illness to MH)

Maybe the people who said this would like to be live the life of a MH person, even for a day?

I know what I would give justto be free from MH and be normal like people without MH (soory dont mean to offend anyone_
