I mean it's so clearly such a great stinking heap of horse shit, how can anyone actually believe it?
Another mum at playgroup today was telling me what kind of personality my 9 month old will have based solely on her star sign.
All pleasant enough stuff but she actually believed it.
What's wrong with people?

No bettybosseye, but I could guess at their rising sign.

bettybosseye · 01/02/2011 19:49

You see the word guess says it all for me. Sorry Lamorna.

Betty, just been reading your starsign and it says you hate tights, can't stand sarah-jane from mighty mites and your mil loves Jeremy Clarkson. How accurate was that?

CalamityKate · 01/02/2011 19:54

It's a heap of shite. Everyone knows it's a heap of shite. Even astrologers know it's a heap of shite, but there are enough -gullible morons-- believers to make sure they earn a good living, so they're not likely to admit that it's a heap of shite.

I love Dara.

bettybosseye · 01/02/2011 19:54

Stirfry have you checked your rising sign? t

OP posts:
Lamorna · 01/02/2011 19:54

If I am just looking at them of course it would be a guess! The sun sign is important as is the moon and chart ruler etc-no one could possibly have 5 mins conversation and know.
If they told me their time of birth I could tell them for sure and draw up a chart. Anyway, I will leave to mock away to your hearts content, I just think that it rather silly mocking something that you are completely ignorant about.

bettybosseye · 01/02/2011 19:55

don't know why there's a t at the end of that post.

Stirfry · 01/02/2011 19:56

Yes, its says I'll meet somebody called Elizabeth with a dodgy eye, not happened yet though...oh wait!...

CalamityKate · 01/02/2011 19:59

There isn't anything to be ignorant about.

If astrology was based on anything concrete, it would have been proven by now. As it is, science says it's shite FOR A REASON.

I could study the subject from now until I was 95 - it still wouldn't have any basis in fact.

bettybosseye · 01/02/2011 20:03

Stirfry our sun signs are aligned and our chart rulers have done a deal. this is for real baby.

Snorbs · 01/02/2011 20:05

Lamorna, why don't astrologers go for the million dollar prize? Not only would they disprove all the doubters and finally put their bollocks theories to the test, but they could donate the money to charity.

What's to lose?

MainlyMaynie · 01/02/2011 20:06

Hmm, I think approx 1 billion Hindu people believe in jyotish. So an entire billion numpties?

UnquietDad · 01/02/2011 20:08

There are so many things which come under the heading of that phrase mentioned above, "arrant nonsense..." And it's always depressing to see so many of them taken seriously on here.

bettybosseye · 01/02/2011 20:10

MainlyMaynie- don't know what jyotish is my lovely but if it's star signs as read in the back of trashy magazines then yes, an entire billion numpties.

OP posts:
hugglymugly · 01/02/2011 20:13

I agree that it's a complete load of bollocks.

I also agree with what WhereYouLeftIt said in that there could have been some correlation, in the distant past of reliance on seasonal availability of food, between the calories available at significant times of pre-natal development and the subsequent behavioural traits exhibited by individuals who were born at full term at certain times of the year, which were deduced, not by calendars, but by the whereabouts of constellations in the sky.

But that's also bollocks, because the whereabouts change over time, and anyway aren't the same as seen down under so what works in the northern hemisphere doesn't in the southern.

What can I say? I'm Libra, so I'm clearly pre-determined to go for balanced bollocks. Confused

GrimmaTheNome · 01/02/2011 20:51

And then there' Tibetan astrology ... but as the Dalai Lama doesn't believe in it I guess we don't need to bother to go there.

pigletmania · 01/02/2011 20:54

Utter crap it is, not worth the paper its written on.

I love 'i don't know what jyotish my lovely' Grin

vess · 01/02/2011 22:44

But I like star signs! There is something cute about them.
Don't really believe in them, though.

On the other hand, lots of people believe that you're born with something called IQ, which is a certain number that doesn't change throughout your whole life and it has something to do with genes. Which is only marginally better than believing in star signs.
