I mean it's so clearly such a great stinking heap of horse shit, how can anyone actually believe it?
Another mum at playgroup today was telling me what kind of personality my 9 month old will have based solely on her star sign.
All pleasant enough stuff but she actually believed it.
What's wrong with people?

But Vit A for measles isn't the bleeding obvious. Selenium for immune boosting isn't the bleeding obvious. Nor zinc for concentration.

You just think cold = vit C then everybody says oh that's rubbish doesn't work anyway.

A lot of people have been agreeing that it's not even worth eating five a day.

White bread and pasta still fly off the shelves.

To ME it's bleeding obvious, and maybe you, and maybe even Buzz, but we are in a minority.

Appletrees · 03/02/2011 19:37

"The basics is duh, the flowery crap you attach to it is woo."

just

yawny yawny yawn yawn

Appletrees · 03/02/2011 19:40

sorry

it's just boring because you don't know that much about it and I can't be bothered to link anything and no one is going to change their mind

ThePosieParker · 03/02/2011 19:41

Balanced diet and plenty of water are alternative therapy this day and age!! No research whatsoever proves any effect from 'alternative' medicine....terrible that the NHS waste money on it and worse that anyone chooses alternative therapies over real medicine, like my friend's friend in Canada who is about to leave her three dds without a mother.

BuzzLightBeer · 03/02/2011 19:41

Tired? Not enough bee pollen perhaps?

I tell you one thing about nutrtion and its evangelicals, Gillian whackadoodle McKeith is the same age as the lucious Nigella Lawson. One witters on about Quinoa and avocado oil, the other steeps everything in cream, butter, and chocolate. I think I'll stick with the latter thanks very much.

bettybosseye · 03/02/2011 19:42

Appletrees your right to alot of people it isn't obvious and that's the way it will stay if the message is buried in overly complex language. Call a spade a spade not an open air manual hand digger.

Not tired, bored of a sort of sneering ignorance that people think is cynical but is actually a bit sheep like.

It's your body. Obviously not bleeding obvious for you either.

ThePosieParker · 03/02/2011 19:44

Never underestimate the power of the placebo either, which is why faith healing can work. Trials on Alzheimer patients showed physiological changes when placebo was used.

Appletrees · 03/02/2011 19:48

five a day isn't that overly complex

Witchofthenorth · 03/02/2011 19:50

I brought my half brain cell back to have a peek in the room and see how it goes :)

Debate still going on then........

bettybosseye · 03/02/2011 19:52

no it's not, but you were puzzled as to why people say "doh" then "woo", I was explaining why the term "nutritional healing" might be a bit exclusive.

OP posts:
GrimmaTheNome · 03/02/2011 19:53

five a day isn't that overly complex

no, nor does eating RDA-ish amounts of vitamins and trace elements. but if that's what you mean by 'nutritional healing' it doesn't really need a label.

That makes it sound 'Dr' Gillian-ish woo, which is a shame if you just mean commonsense eating.

Where it gets woo is when you get recommendations to eat particular strange berries or expensive proprietary 'food' bars.

Appletrees · 03/02/2011 19:54

You said it's obvious but hidden in flowery language. But it's not. Nobody calls five a day nutritional healing.

GrimmaTheNome · 03/02/2011 19:56

I have completely lost track of who's arguing what here.

I've a stinking cold, I need nutritional healing - honey and lemon please Grin

Appletrees · 03/02/2011 19:57

I am one of those who thinks that RDA amounts are pitiful. Perhaps that's the kind of thing you all mean.

Who knows. Maybe it's just a random oooh sounds a bit off the beaten track oooooh I'm so cynical let's have a little go even though I know ooooooh jackshit about it.

Appletrees · 03/02/2011 19:58

That's because your team is being self-contradictory Grimma.

Appletrees · 03/02/2011 19:59

not honey and lemon

bed with 1000mg vit c and no anti-pyretics

yer'll be right as rain tomorrow

bettybosseye · 03/02/2011 20:01

I've lost track too, started this on tuesday because some daft woman annoyed me with her astrology bollocks. I have to say i didn't expect it to take such interesting twists and turns. Much more engaging than bloody star signs!
By the way apples i understand that it's more complex than just your 5 a day. I just feel that sometimes these things can be dressed up in such a way as to be a turn off.

OP posts:
bettybosseye · 03/02/2011 20:04

and i agree the RDA's are pitiful. Particularly with vit d supps. (sorry that's a bug bear of mine)

OP posts:
BuzzLightBeer · 03/02/2011 20:19

1000mg vit c? you do realise you'll be pissing most of that down the toilet?

There have been many large scale studies of vit c and colds, flu, immune systems etc. Can you guess what they have found? Sweet FA. No scientific basis in fact.

Appletrees do you have any data to back up any of your claims?

that is quite literally pissing money away

GrimmaTheNome · 03/02/2011 20:30

The vit C megadose theory was first put forward by Linus Pauling.

He was a great scientist in his field, but this wasn't his field.

I'm with you on avoiding anti-pyretics - a bit of elevated temp is good.

bettybosseye · 03/02/2011 20:33

Does anyone have any ideas for acne? i had good skin until i had babies and now i wear a paper bag most of the time.

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 03/02/2011 20:35
