to worry over the plight of the Vegimals?

DS calls them "the servers," which got me thinking: Are we to believe that these poor creatures are acting solely out of some intense, altruistic desire to please the Octonauts like some kind of nuns of the sea? Hmm Or could it be something more sinister slavery, perhaps? And what just what is Miomi trying to imply with their half-vegetable lineage?

Could this be setting a Shock Bad Example for the Children?

The fact that only one of them - Tunip - has a name suggests to me that the poor vegimals are simply interchangable skivvys who aren't even afforded the courtesy of a moniker. It's shocking!!!!! Grin

dawntigga · 27/01/2011 20:46

It's the Wottingers I worry about, am V sure that the Pontipines have eaten them and are now living in both houses claiming 2 lots of benefit. The Mail should be told!

Oooh, I'm so glad someone else has worried about this! The fact that the vegimals are the ones to tend the garden makes me think it's all a bit sinister. They do seem to cook up a good fish biscuit though.

The fact that I instantly knew what your thread title meant probably means I am watching too much cbeebies.... (goes off mumbling about Chuggington plot lines (the one with the squirrels on the tracks was v scary))....

JarethTheGoblinKing · 27/01/2011 20:57

This is just going to bring up all the unpleasantness about House Elves

Toastiewoastie · 27/01/2011 20:59

WTF are vegimals?

cakeywakey · 27/01/2011 21:00

Jareth, the only unpleasantness here is the mental image of David Bowie's too-tight tights that your name always conjures up for me Wink

JarethTheGoblinKing · 27/01/2011 21:05
Grin

Well, my work here is done..

cakeywakey · 27/01/2011 21:08

Don't twirl them too hard, you might end up in A&E Grin

YANBU. they are obviously GM vegetables so I think they were bred like the Epsilons in 'A Brave New World'

Blatherskite · 27/01/2011 21:16

This thread had be laughing after just reading the title Grin

Tonight I have renamed and trimmed some more of the Octonauts recordings we have on the PVR so I don't have to faff about when DS demands "the one with the crab who did decorating" He's bloody obsessed!

Now going to worry about poor Tunip and his pals when i am forced into watching it tomorrow too

Habbibu · 27/01/2011 21:21

Tunip is the chairperson of the Vegimal collective. They're very shy and like to have just one spokespersiveg. They exist in harmonious symbiosis with the Octonauts, though they would like it if Tweak ate her carrots with slightly less relish.

Habbibu · 27/01/2011 21:22

I didn't know that Professor Inkling had founded the Octonauts. It's like baby X-men.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 27/01/2011 21:23

Habbibu, that's fascinating.

I wondered for ages why Professor Inkling had ears, then an MNer told me it was probably because he's a dumbo octopus

ziptoes · 27/01/2011 21:25

toastiewostie you'll find vegimals here

can't believe i care enough to look up the link. But DD is on one of her interminable evening feeding marathons, so it's that or watch crap telly.

Habbibu · 27/01/2011 21:27

He is indeed a dumbo octopus! How cool is that? I do love Ok-No's (as ds calls them) - lovely little refs to other adventure series (for adults) plus shedloads of true yet strange sea creatures.

changeforthebetter · 27/01/2011 21:29

The Vegimals are shite in a crisis. They just hoot and fall over. Tweak's yer woman as she is ace and can fix anything. I would like her to overthrow up-his-own-arse Barnacles and command the Octopod. She could throw off that waste of space Inkling and sort out whatever it is that Kwazii is smoking or inhaling............................................

JarethTheGoblinKing · 27/01/2011 21:29

aww... I'm saving these for next Christmas

steviesmith · 27/01/2011 21:31

One of the Octonaut books includes the line "vegimals are all the same" so they clearly are cloned. However I refuse to believe anything sinister about the Octonauts. They obviously lead very fulfilled lives playing table tennis and making kelp biscuits.

Habbibu · 27/01/2011 21:31

The Vegimals aren't supposed to deal with crises, God love 'em. You're too harsh, change.

changeforthebetter · 27/01/2011 21:33

Habbibu I'm trying to teach the children about responsibility y'see Wink and about not going all girly and pathetic when faced with a challenge. I do accept that parenting-by-CBeebies may be yet another area where I am sadly wanting as a mother Grin

Habbibu · 27/01/2011 21:36

I've just realised I should probably start planning an Octonaut birthday cake. It's a while away yet, but there's a lot of choice. DD informed me that she's going to be an Octonaut when she grows up, and when she gets bored of that. she'll be a chef. So an Octonaut cake is probably ideal for her portfolio career plans.

Habbibu · 27/01/2011 21:38

Hmm. Well, I think perhaps the Vegimals are an example of playing to your strengths, and in fairness, they do have the responsibility of all the Octonauts' nutritional needs on their crunchy shoulders.

Blatherskite · 27/01/2011 21:39

It's have to be a carrot cake I reckon Habbibu :)

Habbibu · 27/01/2011 21:40

Oh, God. Blee. Maybe by October they'll have introduced a chocolate-based character.
